Story
Maverick: Are you looking for a loyal, loving and fun-loving canine companion? If you are, Maverick may be just what you’ve been waiting for! Maverick is an 8-year-old, male, retriever-shepherd mix. Maverick came into our program in the fall of 2022, as an owner surrender when his family was no longer able to care for him. Maverick had lived with his family since he was a puppy and has been patiently waiting for his forever family. Maverick loves all people, and is great with children …. He is a big guy at almost 90# so we suggest children be approximately 6 years or older. Maverick is very sweet, gentle, loves to go for walks, play with toys, roam around the fenced yard at his foster home, play with his foster dog siblings, rides amazingly in the car and is always willing to hang out with you and catch up on your favorite TV programs too. Maverick is crate trained for a full workday, but is such a great dog that he doesn’t need to be crated when left home alone. Maverick is house trained and will let you know he needs to go outside. Maverick barks appropriately both inside the home and out in the yard. Maverick has gotten along with all dogs he’s met while in the program and could be an only dog, or paired with another dog(s). Maverick is currently in a foster home with 5 other dogs that range in size from a 15# to 70# and adjusts his interactions with each of them based on their individual personalities. He loves to run and wrestle with the bigger labs in the foster home and is particularly gentle with the older pug in the foster home who is 12 ½ years old, almost blind, deaf and has mobility issues. Maverick could live in a home with shared walls, or in a single family home …. As long as he gets daily exercise he’s a content canine companion. Maverick is up to date on his distemper and rabies vaccinations, heart worm tested negative and his microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee for Maverick is $195. If you would like to learn more about Maverick, or set up a time to meet him, please call us at 651-771-5662.

Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Maisie was once a lost stray dog at an overcrowded shelter. It was February, she was pregnant & heartworm positive & had very little chance at being adopted or rescued. The Shelter pleaded for help, showing videos of how sweet & affectionate she was. Very soon her time ran out. Second Chance decided to bail her out & save her & her puppies. Two days after she got to her foster home, she gave birth to 10 puppies. After her puppies had all been adopted, Maisie was spayed and then started her heartworm treatment. Everything is finally completed but she will need to have a follow-up heartworm test in 6-9 months (to be covered by Second Chance). Maisie needs a one-time foster or adopter. Right now, she is in boarding due to our lack of foster homes. Can you help Maisie? Maisie is a 2 yr old Black Lab / Border Collie mix who weighs approx. 78#. The following information comes from the volunteers that have spent time her: She loves car rides - does not even try to climb up front. Loves walks, does pull some at first until she does her business then settles down. Treat motivated - knows sit, and down pretty well. Crate trained; Housetrained Very loving & affectionate Does well meeting dogs and people on walks. A volunteer took her to the VA hospital where she visited with veterans and did well around wheelchairs. She would be OK with another dog or love to have all your attention for herself. She will match your energy level - if your excited she'll one up you. When she gets too excited, try to ignore her until she settles down. She loves to just sit and let you pet her after a walks. Sleeps in a dog bed or a crate She is a strong chewer loves the big knuckle bones, tendon chews, & bully sticks. Second Chance will provide the food and supplies you would need to foster her. Any pre-approved medical expenses are covered as well. Maizie is spayed, vaccinated, and microchipped. If you have questions or are offering to foster Maisie, please call 651-771-5662. Her foster would have the first opportunity to adopt her if they would choose to do so.

Story
Buddy is an 11 month old Labrador / Chesapeake Bay Retriever mix who was found wandering as a stray. A good samaritan took him home to see if she could find his owner but to no avail. She named him Buddy but cannot keep him permanently so reached out for help. We are looking for a one-time foster for Buddy here in MN. He is a young, active, playful guy who is housetrained & walks very well on a leash. He can sit and he is learning to wait. Millie, his temporary foster in TX, is also working on the "down" and "leave it" commands with him. He always comes when he is called. Millie has a big trike that she rides and he walks/jogs on the right side of the trike. Millie is working on teaching him "right" and "left" turns so he knows how to turn when she does. He is crate trained and food motivated. He is also very affectionate, very loving and “super smart”. Buddy would do great with an active family who loves to walk, run and even bike. He has been good with men, women, children & all dogs he has met. No cat experience. Second Chance will provide the necessary supplies/food to care for him, and cover medical costs for vet work that has been approved. As a foster, you would have the first opportunity to adopt him if you choose to. Call 651-771-5662 if you have questions or would like to offer to foster Buddy. He will be neutered, vaccinated, and heartworm/tick disease tested prior to coming up to MN.

Story
I adopted Kevin from a shelter as a puppy, and he has been with me for 7 years. He is an active dog, who loves walks and running around outside playing fetch. I am looking to re-home him due to being a recently single parent, and I don't have the time or resources to be able to afford to keep him. I am trying to find a home with him with older kids, as he is a little dog at heart.

Story
Meet Eula! This sweet girl is ready for her next chapter. Eula came into rescue from a large-scale overcrowding case. She is super sweet and obedient but also has a small desire to escape. She likes to scout the yard for places where she thinks she can dig out once you catch her pawing at the ground she runs back to you or stops what she’s doing. With time, routine, and comfort we are confident she will. She’s excellent in the crate. No issues in the house. Lower energy. Loves to just lay at the back door and watch things in the yard. Eula has done well with both dog and cat foster siblings. Medical History: Before Eula entered rescue her left ear was removed, and she has significant hearing loss on the left side. Her right ear and hearing on the right is in-tact. This does not impact her daily living and quality of life, and we do not expect future medical treatments related to the lost ear. *More information and photos added over time. Story
Magdalena is not just any dog; she is a testament to the resilience and the unwavering spirit of a survivor. This beautiful 5-year-old Labrador mix has faced challenges that would have deterred many, yet her spirit remains unbroken and her heart full of love. Magdalena's journey has been a tough one. Due to a human-caused incident, she tragically lost one of her legs and, heartbreakingly, her puppies as well. Despite these hardships, Magdalena has shown incredible strength and determination to heal both physically and emotionally. The last picture was taken during her early healing stages, you can see her courageously taking each step forward, supported by her indomitable spirit. Today, Magdalena is fully healed and ready to embark on a new chapter of her life - one filled with love, compassion, and the security of a forever home. Her gentle demeanor and loving nature shine through every interaction. Magdalena adores human companionship and has a special affinity for belly rubs and leisurely walks. She is known for her playful antics and happy face. Magdalena's ideal home would be one where she is cherished as a member of the family and the only dog in the home. She does well with dogs her size or bigger but hasn't been around small dogs much and doesn't do well with smaller dogs. She has also never been around cats but given her reaction to small dogs, she probably would do best in a home without cats. She thrives on affection and is eager to return it tenfold. Whether it's snuggling on the couch or exploring the great outdoors, Magdalena is up for any adventure as long as she's by your side. If you're ready to open your heart to a dog who has overcome adversity with grace and love, Magdalena is waiting to meet you. Help us give this incredible survivor the happy ending she deserves - a forever home filled with kindness, warmth, and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. Could you be the one to give Magdalena the loving home she's been waiting for? Reach out today to meet this special dog and discover the joy she can bring to your life.

Story
Louie is a sweet 3.5 year old boy. He wants to please, but since he was neutered, he's terrified of everything. He's very anxious, but wants to be included in whatever you're doing. He follows me everywhere in the house, and will cuddle if given the chance. He needs a fenced yard, because he loves to zoom, and recall isn't reliable. Outside he's very vigilant will bark at anything he hears or any people he sees. When inside, he will bark at people passing on the street a block away. He has been coached by Canine Coach, and is currently on anti-anxiety medications through MN Veterinary Behavior. He's so anxious, he can override sedation drugs meant to make a vet visit possible -- no one can touch him there. We had a home-visit vet out; she didn't touch him either, even after an hour of feeding him treats. He needs an experienced handler with a quiet house and fenced yard. He needs to be the only pet, with adults. He has nipped when startled.

Story
We adopted Mac as a dog for the family just a few weeks ago off of Craigslist. He is 1.5 years old and just the sweetest thing. I recently got accepted into a different program at my University, which would mean I wouldn't be able to watch him as much and he wouldn't be getting the care he deserves. Mac is the happiest dog I have ever met with the kindest heart. He is incredibly playful but will calm down after getting to know people. He loves interacting with people and going on walks more than playing with toys or anything else. I'd like him to find a home with loving caretakers who will give this happy dog the love that he deserves.
