Story
Maverick is a 7-year-old male retriever-shepherd mix, who came into our program as an owner surrender when his family was no longer able to care for him due to unexpected life circumstances. Maverick had lived with his family since he was a puppy, and was very loved, but has been in foster care for almost a year now trying to find a new home. He lived in a home with young children and is reported to be great with kids 6 yr and older. Maverick is a very lovable dog, who thinks he’s a 90# lap dog and loves to snuggle with anyone who will let him. He probably should drop a couple pounds. Maverick loves to be with his people, he rides well in the car and likes to go on walks – he does tend to pull if he sees another dog or person that he would like to meet. Maverick has been great with all dogs and people he meets but can be a little shy at first. Maverick loves to play with toys, and he also enjoys an appropriate bone now and then. He is confined in “his” room for a full workday and is housebroken. He loves to hang out with his humans inside and out. A fenced yard is preferred so that he can wander around the yard safely, but is not required for his forever home. Maverick barks appropriately when in the yard and in the house, but when getting used to a new environment he also barks at noises he doesn’t recognize, so a home with shared walls may be difficult at first unless his human(s) are home much of the time to help him acclimate. Maverick is a pretty relaxed dog, who loves to hang out and be with his human(s). He could be an only dog, or in a home with other dogs. Maverick should not go with cats - he will chase them if they jump up or run and play. If the cats are senior, and aren't very active, he might be OK - the cat he's napping with in the picture is 21 yr young, and doesn't run from him, so they sometimes nap together. Maverick is up to date on his distemper and rabies vaccinations, heart worm tested negative and his microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee for Maverick is $195. If you would like to learn more about Maverick, or set up a time to meet him, please call us at 651-771-5662.

Story
I adopted Kevin from a shelter as a puppy, and he has been with me for 7 years. He is an active dog, who loves walks and running around outside playing fetch. I am looking to re-home him due to being a recently single parent, and I don't have the time or resources to be able to afford to keep him. I am trying to find a home with him with older kids, as he is a little dog at heart.

Snapshot of Trudy: Size? Full Size (40-60 pounds) Activity Level? I play hard and snuggle hard! Noise Level? I bark when I play! Good with Dogs? I would LOVE a playmate, but would also do fine on my own Good with Cats? I'm ok with dog-savvy cats Good with Kids? Great, but I do jump up! Good with Strangers? I love everyone! Potty Trained? I'm a Pro! Crate Trained? I do well in my crate! Shedding? I don't shed much. About Trudy: Hello! My name is Trudy and I am looking for my forever home! I weigh about 52 pounds and I just love toys, my humans, and the dogs that live with me! I am very good at going to my crate and I'm learning to mind my manners when it's dinner time! I am almost a pro with potty training, I just need to know what door to stand by so my humans can see that I need to go out. I like slow intros to new dogs, once they understand my boundaries we do just fine. I love kids, but since I'm still learning not to jump up when I see people, older children would be better for me. I am quite the cuddler and would love to snuggle while you're working or watching TV! I also love to go on long walks. I would do well with another pet or as the star of the show. I would LOVE to find my forever home and am looking forward to meeting you! Trudy is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for her age. Story
Pat and her siblings were born in late January to a mixed breed mommy (pictured). Daddy was a ‘traveling man’ who we suspect was a handsome stranger who took no responsibility whatsoever for his actions. The first impression the puppies give is lab cross and they have little webbed toes for swimming and their coats are very lab-like. Everyone in the litter has a lovely white blaze on their chest which is typical of border collies, and the petfinder breed identifier says Patterdale Terrier, so that is what we are going with. DNA testing on dogs from the area often have 20 or more breeds and invariably have some German Shepherd, some herding dog and, surprisingly, many have a wee bit of Chihuahua. The puppy’s family kept the mom and PUP will pay for her to be spayed. They surrendered the puppies because they were living outside and an eagle was lurking about making the puppy’s situation precarious at best. Pat is black, white and brindle. She is using newspapers and has not begun house breaking yet. She is playful and has an average energy level. She is by far the smallest of the litter and we expect her to be a mid-sized dog when she is fully grown, but her adopter should be prepared to love her if she is a bit larger or smaller than predicted. The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Pat has been vaccinated and wormed. She will need two more routine vaccination plus rabies at the owner’s expense. The $375 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by the PUP vet. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested. Story
Name: Toaster Breeds: Lab Mix Age: Puppy Sex: Male Size: Large when fully grown Toaster was named because he POPS up like he’s coming out of a toaster when he runs and plays. His zoomies are laughable but also truly pure joy to watch him run and play. He is such a happy guy! Toaster was found tied up at a bus stop and no one came forward to claim him. He’s clearly had a home before and has been very loved and socialized. He is an outgoing, sunny, goofball who loves nothing more than a toy to chase or someone to play with. Toaster is excellent with other dogs, curious about cats but when they gave him a smack backed right off, and loves all people. He is doing fabulous on his housetraining and crates well for the workday. He is about 8 months old so still growing and going to be typical Lab sized as an adult. We love this happy guy so much and his forever home is going to be so lucky. Requirements: Training sign up recommended Adoption Fee: $600 + tax. This includes neuter/spay, current vaccinations as age appropriate, heartworm/tick testing in dogs over 8 months of age, deworming, microchip and current Heartgard and Nexgard preventatives. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Regina found herself unwanted and surrendered in West Texas. She is good with other dogs, kids and cats are unknown. All dogs and puppies require supervision and training. Gigi is perfection. Sweet and loving, she can't get enough attention, kisses, or pets. She gets along with other dogs and is good with kids but would do better with older kids. If you're having a lazy day she will cuddle all day long. If you're full of energy, she'll keep right up with you. She will be your best friend and stick to you like glue.  She's shown a little bit of human resource guarding or protective nature. She would do good with an experienced dog owner.  She loves to play with her two foster brothers and she doesn't let them get the better of her. She will entertain herself with toys or play for ages with other dogs. She's feisty, sweet, and full of love to give. She is very treat motivated and eager to learn new things.   She's great on a leash, but she does get distracted by squirrels or other small animals. Simply remind her to 'look at me' and attention goes back to you. If she sounds perfect for you, please submit an application on our website mattysheartandsoulanimalrescue.rescuegroups.org.      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 12, 2024, 10:07 am
