Story
Rocky is a big, silly guy that will sometimes still play like a puppy, a very obedient puppy! He weighs around 110 pounds and doesn't always realize his strength and power. He loves his cozy dog bed, soft blankets, treats, riding in the car, going for walks, attention and butt scratches from his people, and toys. He loves playing fetch and tug. It's so cute when he gets giddy, gallops around, and is super happy- he has the best smile. He makes really adorable sounds when you get home, he wants to do something, or he's just really excited- sometimes like Chewbacca. Rocky would do best as an only dog. This guy really likes to take baths- he can be found sitting pretty in the bathroom or even standing in the bathtub looking at the faucet wondering why the water is not coming out when he wants it to. He would do better in a home without kids or one with older kids that understand his boundaries. He is wonderfully housebroken and crate trained. Rocky has been through professional training, so is great on a leash, knows heel, auto-sit, sit, down, stay, and head and hand motions. His adoption will include sessions with his trainer. Most importantly, he needs a patient person or family that gives him space to get used to his new people. It is well worth the wait though because he makes the best companion once he trusts you and knows you respect his boundaries. He can be nervous around strangers and doesn't like to be touched/reached for by strangers straight away upon meeting them. He is such a loving creature to his people, extremely handsome, and provides endless laughter, smiles and entertainment! April 26, 2024, 3:19 pm

Story
This is Bobo! I can describe him in many ways, but the most fitting is that he's simply special -So special that the woman who rescued him wanted to keep him but couldn't  -So special that his shelter threw him a good bye party when he came to SAAP -So special that his foster family would love to keep him if their dog was friendly -So special that his trainer even debated keeping him You read that right, Bobo has had a trainer to help him be his best self! -Naturally a special boy like that would also need an equally special adopter. One who understands that it's ok to be scared at first and take things slow. -That knows how important it is to allow a dog some time to adjust and feel safe. -Who's willing to keep up the training and really give this special boy a chance at a happily ever after.  -And who notices that not everyone is a social butterfly or necessarily loves being around other people  A couple more bullet points: *Bobo loves other dogs, he plays as hard as he loves *homes with little children are probably not a good fit as he still likes to jump and can get a little mouthy  *he likes to chase cats and most of them wouldn't appreciate that  *he does take a little time to warm up to people so patience is a must If you are that special someone please reach out or fill out an application today! Story
Rosemary (whose friends call her Melly) has been to formal training at Pawlished and comes with support from them for life (reactive group classes, pack walks, email support). We been working hard in her foster home to help her learn strangers are not dangerous and that she can play with other dogs nicely. Adoption events are hard for her as they are filled with strangers and dogs which both scare her (until they aren't strangers anymore - she loves her people with her whole heart!).   Rosemary needs her forever home to understand: * she is a BIG puppy at 65-70 pounds who is sometimes too playful to remember her manners so she jumps up on people * she needs a single family home with a fenced in yard to ensure strangers or unknown dogs/cats do not enter her space without her parent's permission * she barks loudly when she is scared to try to scare the things that are scaring her and force them to give her space. She can also bark for attention if she has not gotten enough exercise * she needs patient adopters willing to do slow introductions to other dogs (she should be allowed to decompress at least a week before meeting) * she needs her dog friends to be tolerant of rough play after they do meet * she is warming up to cats, but wants to treat them like puppies and play rough now that she knows they won't hurt herApril 26, 2024, 3:19 pm

Story
When Kodiak came to his foster home he was very overweight at 105lbs - much more than his frame could comfortably support. He hated walking and foster mom had to bribe him back home with treats after he was too tired from 10 minutes of trying. Fast forward to today, he is about 20 lbs lighter and loves to run and play with foster puppies and other dogs in the yard. He loves to go for walks and easily and regularly can walk for an hour.    Kodiak came to his foster home used to using his size and growls to get his way. He has worked SO HARD and learned SO MUCH in his foster home including: humans are in charge and he doesn’t need to be the leader, sit and wait to be released for meals, how to relax and stay in place, that furniture is invitation only, completely re-crate trained to learn crate is a safe space not punishment, and that he can share his toys with humans and he will get them back!   All of this progress took lots of time and patience with foster mom to build trust. Kodiak has a breed expected stubborn streak and is incredibly smart. His new adopter will need to be patient and earn his trust and set the tone with boundaries and respect.    As part of his wellness transformation, Kodiak was started on an antidepressant (Fluoxetine) and is an incredibly happier dog on them, and we encourage that his adopter keeps him on this medication. Kodiak also has an allergy, unknown if it is food or environmental. Kodiak is currently well managed with a single protein dog food and an allergy medication (Apoquel). His adopters may consider allergy testing to more specifically identify the allergen.    Kodiak loves people and doesn’t know a human stranger. Kodiak is GREAT with other dogs. His foster mom calls him the foster dog ambassador. He is good with big, small, young, and old dogs. He reads body language very well and matches his play style to the other dog and is very patient with rude and rough play from other dogs. Kodiak does resource guard his toys, bones, and food to other dogs. Kodiak would likely do ok living with another dog who is submissive and not very interested in toys (with supervision!) or with an owner experienced with resource guarding behaviors. He would be ideal for someone who only wants one dog in the home and wants a dog who can go for walks in public places with other dogs around or have toy free playdates with other dogs. He loves to go for walks at Smale park and hang out with foster mom at breweries!   Kodiak has made incredible strides in his foster home and is looking for his best fit family who will continue to support his progress. He has had a few meet and greets but is waiting for his perfect forever family to find him!   When Kodiak came to his foster home he was very overweight at 105lbs - much more than his frame could comfortably support.
