Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) NEEDS FOSTER HOMES Your help is needed to save dogs' lives. National Pyr (NGPR) is a coalition of rescuers that rescues Pyrs and Pyr mixes from Southern kill shelters where these large breed dogs last only a few days. After dogs are pulled from shelters, they are assessed, vetted, spayed or neutered and quarantined for two weeks or more before going to a foster home. There are not enough foster homes in the places the dogs come from so dogs are transported to foster families around the country where they can live in a home environment and interact with kids, cats, people and other dogs. Every dog that goes into foster home allows us to pull another dog from a shelter. Please go to National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) to learn more about the breed. Then if you are interested, please read about fostering, then fill out our volunteer application if you can help and we will get back to you shortly. We thank you and our beloved Pyrs thank you too. If you can't foster or adopt at this time, please consider helping our Neediest Cases or making a tax-exempt donation by visiting our Donate page.  November 1, 2024, 6:03 pm

Story
Karla is a 5 year old, black German Shepherd mix. She is exceptionally smart and does amazingly well with her training. Karla will need a kind, committed, confident and active person who can channel her energy and drive and allow her to be the magnificent friend we know she is. She is a lean 50 pounds. Here is the tricky part - Karla does not like strangers, and sometimes other dogs. Karla takes a long time to warm up, and as such she cannot go home with just anyone. She is protective of her people, so she will need a home where this is respected. An experienced dog owner is a must. Shepherd experience is a plus. If you are interested in meeting this wonderful dog (she really is a sweetheart once she knows you!), please fill out an adoption application. Karla had a DNA test and she is: 46% German Shepherd Dog 32% American Pit Bull Terrier 9% Rottweiler 5% Dalmatian 4% American Staffordshire Terrier 2% White Swiss Shepherd 1% Belgian Sheepdog 1% Bohemian Shepherd Dog Karla is housetrained!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. This adorable guy is Luke! Luke had a rough start, coming to rescue from a hoarding situation, and is now looking for the good life in a furever home! He would love a family that will give him his space to roam in a securely fenced in yard (he will require a 6 ft fence). Luke can be nervous in new situations but is very sweet once he warms up and gets familiar. He has a mild temperament and is happiest relaxing in the yard, calmly keeping watch over his humans. Luke is looking for a family that has experience with the breed and understands how to give a sometimes anxious Pyr their space - he will be the Pyrfect companion for these type of humans. With a little patience and a lot of love, Luke will be a wonderful addition - apply for this adorable guy today! NGPR Pooch Profile Name: Luke in PA Age: 7 yrs 8 mos old as of October 2024 Color: white Dew Claws: double Estimated Adult Weight: 85 lbs Current Location: NGPR approved boarding in Gallitzin, PA Medical: Neutered, dewormed, negative for heartworm, up-to-date on vaccinations and currently on flea, tick and heartworm preventative. This dog travels with a Interstate Health Certificate required by the USDA confirming that all the above criteria have been met. Housebroken: yes Can be Placed With: Selective w/other dogs, no kids, no cats Fencing: Secure VISIBLE fencing is required; invisible fencing WILL NOT contain this breed. Fees: Adoption fees are determined on a sliding scale depending on age, location and transport.  Fees for dogs adopted locally start at $400 and can range up to $700 for puppies under six months. Puppies placed on spay/neuter contracts receive $100 back when the dog is spayed or neutered. Transport costs are included in the adoption fee. Fees for senior dogs (7 or older) and foster dogs will be adjusted accordingly. NYS Registered Rescue # RR102 Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. If you can't foster or adopt at this time, please consider helping our Neediest Cases or making a tax-exempt donation by visiting our Donate page. Please complete the adoption application and visit nationalpyr.org to learn more about Pyrs and our adoption process. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) is not a shelter. We are a non-profit, tax-exempt rescue who has been rescuing the breed for 15 years.  Visit nationalpyr.org to learn more about us, our mission and our breed. More Information: Questions? The fastest way to learn more about a dog is to fill out our online application. If you call or e-mail you are reducing your chances of adopting this animal as we direct our time and energy to first serving those who apply.  We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes and not all of them are posted. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Jonas has only one wish - he is hoping for a furever home where he can be a good companion to the right person who is a patient and experienced owner. Jonas has a long, soft, fluffy coat and is a smart boy who knows his basic cues, though he would love it if his furever family would dedicate time to add more skills into his toolbox so he can show off how exceptional he can be. Just like many of our pyr rescues, Jonas can be a tad wary when encountering strangers, but if you are patient and give him the time and space he needs, he will warm up to you in no time. Once he determines that you are trustworthy, he transforms into a loving companion where he may claim your lap as his own! Jonas will thrive in a less active home without children and in a relatively quiet neighborhood, where his people have the time and patience to continue his training. This big boy has all the 'pawtential' to become your most loyal companion, will you open your heart to him?
