Meet slinky fka Eli! Eli is a sweet, laid-back about 7-8 year-old little dachshund mix looking for his forever home through absolutely no fault of his own. He came to us from an over crowded shelter where he spent a couple months being nursed back to health by a loving foster home. He has blossomed into a happy, loving companion and continues to carry that same personality in his RDR foster home. Slinky fka Eli is housebroken, walks beautifully on leash, knows his basic commands, and has wonderful house manners. He loves being with his people, getting attention and belly rubs, and curling up on a dog bed. He has done wonderfully with other dogs and cats. He is also crate trained. Eli is heartworm positive, but Real Dog Rescue will cover the cost of his treatment. This little guy is truly a wonderful companion—affectionate, easygoing, smart, and eager to please. Meet Maverick! This sweet, cuddly, and playful boy is living his best life in foster with canine siblings and plenty of canine friends. At about 5 years old, this lanky guy still hasn’t quite grown into his long legs and often hops around like a puppy! Maverick’s DNA revealed that he is 50% Treeing Walker Coonhound, and he certainly lives up to his hound heritage. He loves following a trail, tracking interesting scents, and, of course, enjoying food like a true hound! Maverick absolutely LOVES other dogs and would be happiest in a home with other social, dog-friendly pups. He’s also incredibly smart, knows multiple tricks, rides great in the car, and is both house- and crate-trained. Meet Leni. Sometimes, a face just stays with you. We first saw this sweet middle-aged shepherd mix behind the bars of a cage at a local shelter. At about 7 years old and 45 lbs, her gentle face immediately stole our hearts, but that day, we had to walk away. Leni was found as a stray and was never claimed, so we don’t know much about her past. We believe she’s around seven or eight years old, but she certainly still has plenty of spunk! Just look at that happy dance and the joy on her face as she runs around with her new friend now that she’s out of the shelter. And that’s the thing about shelter dogs... You simply cannot always see who they truly are while they’re living behind the bars of a concrete kennel. The shelter environment can be incredibly stressful and overwhelming. Once they’re given space, comfort, love, and the chance to decompress, they can blossom right before your eyes. Despite everything we don’t know about her past, she is sweet, loving, trusting, and affectionate. We don’t believe she was treated badly. She simply needed someone to give her a chance. Last night was her first night with her wonderful foster family, and they told us she did wonderfully. We hope Leni’s story inspires even ONE person to open their home and foster a shelter dog in need. We promise—you won’t regret it. There is something incredibly special about watching a scared or overlooked shelter dog discover what it feels like to be safe, loved, and free. Now it’s Leni’s turn to find her forever family. Roxy is cat, dog, and kid-friendly, and she absolutely loves people! Shell even show off her tricks for a tasty treat. This week, Roxy was spayed and had two large mast cell masses removed from her abdomen. Now, were looking for a forever home where this sweet senior can be spoiled for all her golden years. Looking for a loving and devoted companion? Meet Elly! This loyal, intelligent, and loving low-rider is happiest when she’s with her people and soaking up the sunshine. Elly is around 5-6 years old and 28-ish pounds. Elly is incredibly smart and very trainable - she listens to commands well and has learned new commands, too. She would thrive with a family who can give her room to roam - whether it be a backyard, patio or open area of the house where she can have a patch of sunlight to sunbathe in. Her favorite activities include chasing after tennis balls, gazing out the window in search of squirrels and birds, and enjoying a good sunbath outside! Elly loves being close to her people and knowing she’s part of the family, but she also appreciates having her own space and time to relax. Although she'll never say no to a cuddle! She’s the perfect mix of affectionate and independent. She is also incredibly loyal. On sick days, she'll be by your side day in and day out. And if you work from home, she'll make the best office mate - quietly keeping you company while you work. She has great Zoom etiquette as she never barks for attention. Elly has lived with a toddler and another dog and has been gentle and loving with both. However, she can sometimes be dog selective (crazy pups aren’t her thing) so calmer dogs are preferred. She would also do great as a solo dog. Her current family lives in a New York City apartment with two babies and unfortunately cannot give her the time and environment she needs to be her happiest self. Meet the Pickle Litter! At about 2 years old, these sweet pups found themselves surrendered to an overcrowded shelter when their backyard breeder was shut down and they couldn’t move them anymore. They are settling into foster where they are adjusting to life as beloved family dogs. They have only known a life surrounded by other dogs and will require other dogs in the home to learn from. They lived inside the home their entire lives and are not house broken. They are going to need work with housebreaking, leash walking, crate training and will do best in homes that are committed to giving them the patience, consistency, and guidance they need to become happy, well-adjusted dogs. They have entered a new world and are going to need time to gain confidence with all of the new sounds and experiences. Other social dogs are helping with this transition. They do love toys, playing, getting lots of attention once they know you. The Pickle Litter is dog-friendly, sweet, and deserving of a life filled with love, stability, and all the good things that they have been missing.
