Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.*** Check Out My Video Album Below! *** Courtesy Listing: Steve and Robin are a bonded pair of Great Pyrenees who appear to be mixed with Black Mouth Cur. They have long, soft double coats and hearts full of love just waiting to be unlocked. Found near-feral in the woods of Tennessee, these two have come an incredibly long way — and the journey to earning their trust is one of the most rewarding things you'll ever experience. Both dogs are house-trained and crate trained, and they have great house manners. They've settled beautifully into home life and adore having a cozy den space to call their own — a covered crate loaded up with soft bedding and favorite chew toys, big enough for the two of them to snuggle up together. Their activity level is moderate: they love a good case of the zoomies in a big yard, but they're equally happy to spend the rest of the day curled up together in a warm corner. Steve and Robin are fantastic with cats and tend to lose interest once a new scent becomes familiar. They do great with small puppies, though they prefer very calm dogs overall and can be selective with new canine friends. They've handled calm vet visits like champs and are generally well-behaved in new situations, though they appreciate a gentle, unhurried approach. They're not big barkers — you'll mostly hear from them when they need outside time or want to let you know something's up at the boundary. Steve is a total attention hog who has perfected the Pyr Paw and will absolutely try to elbow Robin out of the spotlight the moment belly rubs are on the table. Robin is gentler and more reserved, but once you've earned her trust, she is pure magic. Both dogs have moved from near-feral to actively seeking out love and affection, and that transformation says everything about who they are. Steve loves to dig, so your yard may acquire some character. Leash work is still in progress — both dogs are a little nervous about it — but with patience and a slow, positive approach, they're making strides. A four-foot fence is all that's needed to keep them happily contained, as neither has any interest in escape artistry. Steve and Robin are looking for a calm, experienced home, possibly with older kids who have a naturally quiet and gentle energy. They need a family who understands that trust takes time, who will give them space when they need it and hugs when they ask for them, and who has a yard big enough for the occasional wild sprint. They can thrive as a duo-only household or alongside other very chill canine companions. In return, you'll get two absolutely gorgeous, deeply sweet dogs who will love you with everything they've got — once they know it's safe to do so. And it will be so worth the wait. National Great Pyrenees Rescue (NGPR) has been rescuing and adopting out Great Pyrenees since 2006. Our relationship doesn’t end with adoption, as we continue to support adopters throughout the lifetime of their dog. Our goal is to assess every application on its own merits. Key considerations are: 1) the experience of the applicant with large breed dogs 2) children in the household or regularly visiting the household are ready for a large-breed dog who is a guardian by nature and 3) the sex of other dogs currently residing in the household to avoid same-sex aggression issues. For puppies under six months old, the applicant’s ability to socialize the puppy with older dogs is a priority. We have many Pyrs and Pyr mixes who need homes. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.*** Check Out My Video Album Below! *** Pearl is a charming young Pry girl who came to us as a stray in Kentucky. Pearl is ready to embrace a bright future filled with love, laughter, and lots of playtime! She is housebroken, leash trained, and crate trained, with a medium activity level. Pearl is a smart cookie who already knows her name, comes when called, understands what "dinner" means (very important priorities!), and happily goes into her kennel on cue. She respects boundaries both inside and outside the house, has wonderful house manners, and an eagerness to learn. When it comes to other animals, Pearl is a social butterfly. She absolutely adores other dogs and loves to play, and she has been happily following her foster's 11-year-old male dog around, soaking up all his wisdom. Pearl will thrive best in a home with a confident dog to help guide her. She's also perfectly fine with indoor cats, though outdoor cats may find her a little too enthusiastic — she just wants to play, after all! Pearl is a bit shy when meeting new people and likes to take her time with a good sniff before warming up. She tends to approach women first and looks to her canine companions for reassurance that new folks are trustworthy. As for kids, Pearl is timid and gentle and would likely do well. Pearl is very much an indoor girl who loves being right in the heart of the family. Pearl's favorite things include being brushed (she thinks it's a fabulous game!), playing with her toys, and exploring the great outdoors — especially around water! She loves getting her paws wet, and in her foster home she's been utterly fascinated by the backyard pond, trying to sneak bites of the plants and watching the fish with wide-eyed wonder. She's also not a picky eater when it comes to treats — peanut butter and chicken are her favorites, and she'll even munch on celery like the little health-conscious pup she is! The one thing Pearl could do without? Car rides. She's working on it! What makes Pearl truly special is her infectious playfulness and her wide-eyed curiosity about the world around her. She is a young dog with so much love to give, and all she needs is an active family, with another dog, who will welcome her in and show her she is home. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.*** Check Out My Video Album Below! *** Meet Filmore — a tall drink of water with big-puppy energy, a goofy grin, and absolutely no concept of personal space. This young Great Pyrenees mix (possibly with a little Golden Retriever sprinkled in for extra charm) is equal parts sweet, silly, and mildly convinced that everyone he meets is already his best friend. Filmore loves to run, play, wrestle with his foster sister, chase his tail in his crate like it’s a personal insult, and fully embrace his inner water dog by splashing in the pool and happily parking himself on the splash pad. He’s the kind of dog who turns every walk into a meet-and-greet and seems personally offended when people don’t stop to admire him. Filmore is crate trained, about 90% housebroken, and picking up the whole “good dog” routine like a champ. He already knows “sit” and “wait,” and he’s currently workshopping “down,” leash manners, and the fine art of being a gentleman in public. He loves car rides, and when he spots a car, he gives the door a look like he’s asking, “Is it time to go?” He enjoys soft chew toys and dramatically flopping onto his back like he’s auditioning for a dog-bed commercial. His dream home would have an active adopter who’s ready to keep his training going, plenty of room for zoomies and playtime, and ideally another playful dog, a 5-foot secure fenced yard, or a kid to become his very best sidekick. If you’re looking for a lovable, lanky, slightly ridiculous pup with a giant heart and main-character energy, Filmore is ready to move in, win everyone over, and claim your heart as his throne! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.*** Check Out My Video Album Below! *** Max is a big mush who will brighten your life with his smiles and big paws. He's a sweet guy who's eager to please. With medium energy, he enjoys a day full of attention from his people, and many naps. He’s good with female dogs - he’d adore having a lady Pyr in his furever home! He knows "sit" and is more than willing to do so at your command - just watch his videos! Max is a very smart pup and a little training will go a long way to making him the perfect Pyr companion. Max is housebroken and learning to walk on leash. This pup is good-natured and happy to oblige your commands, but having treats on hand will make him sit faster. He prefers to be inside, and is a cuddle-bug who will hang on your every word. He’s a breeze to groom, as he loves being brushed (it’s just more attention, after all!). Max’s ideal home will be in a quieter setting, have a 6-foot fence, a female Pyr to pal around with, and strong, loving leadership from people who are experienced in working with large, intelligent breeds - he needs a dog/Pyr-savvy human to provide him structure and routine.
