Story
Meet Mochi! After spending a few months with us, we can confidently say this girl is something special. Mochi is well-mannered, affectionate, and equipped with the cutest little butt wiggles you’ve ever seen. Get her one-on-one and you couldn’t ask for a better dog. She soaks up attention like sunshine and would much prefer to keep all the love to herself. Mochi has made it clear she doesn’t want to share her space with other animals and would thrive as the one and only star of the show.In her kennel, she’s calm and so well-mannered. Give her a cozy bed and a good bone to chew on and she’s perfectly content. She keeps her space very tidy, and we were told by her previous family that she’s housebroken. Mochi is strong on leash, but she walks much better in a harness. She has really loved having access to a fenced yard here at the shelter where she can stretch her legs and zoom around. She’s very treat and praise motivated, so any additional training should come easily with her eagerness to please. Mochi has been nothing but friendly and affectionate with our staff and volunteers. More than anything, she’s ready to find HER people. Mochi is accepting adoption applications to find her perfect match!**Spayed, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines & monthly prevention. Weighs about 55 lbs**

Story
Hi! I’m Gumbo!I’m about 12 weeks old, which means I’m supposed to only know things like toys and naps and how fast I can zoom in a straight line. Instead, my brother Gazpacho and I were found abandoned at Independence Dam State Park. We were in pretty rough shape and were missing patches of fur and definitely needed some help. I didn’t feel very good, and I didn’t look my best either. But I’m still just a puppy. I still wanted to wag my tail. I still wanted someone to notice me.Luckily for us, we were brought to some really nice people that love animals and were able to help us! Now I have warm meals, soft blankets, and people who are helping my coat grow back in. I’m starting to understand that life isn’t always cold and confusing. Sometimes it’s gentle hands and kind voices.I’m still healing, but I’m also still hopeful. I like to explore. I like to be close. I like to believe my very best days are ahead of me.I’m ready to find a home where I can grow up the way a puppy should, safe, loved, and never left behind again.**Neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on age appropriate vaccines & monthly prevention.**

Story
Say hello to Wednesday!Wednesday has spent the last several weeks in a wonderful foster home, getting taste of the good life outside of the shelter. Thanks to her foster family, we’ve been able to learn so much more about the kind of companion she is in a home environment.According to her foster family, Wednesday is an excellent house guest and earns a perfect score when it comes to potty training. She has not had a single accident and does great using their fenced yard. She especially enjoys spending time outside and has been taking full advantage of the warmer weather. At mealtimes, Wednesday has shown that she prefers to graze rather than eat all at once. She enjoys having a little wet food mixed in with her dry food and will happily pick at her meals throughout the day at her own pace.Wednesday also appreciates having a cozy space to call her own. Her crate, complete with a big comfortable dog bed, has become one of her favorite spots to relax. It serves as her safe space where she can unwind. If she isn’t in her crate at night, you can often find her curled up on the couch. She is non-destructive and does well being left out overnight. One of Wednesday’s favorite parts of the day is her daily walk. She gets very excited when it’s time to head out and may try to rush out the door in her enthusiasm, so a secure hold on her leash is important. Once the initial excitement settles, she relaxes and enjoys the walk.Wednesday is a dog who prefers a quieter lifestyle. She would do best in a home without young children or very rambunctious dogs. She is a calm, sweet girl who is not afraid to communicate her boundaries and would thrive in a home that respects her need for a peaceful environment. While Wednesday has been enjoying her time in foster care, she is still searching for a permanent home to call her own. She has proven herself to be a wonderful companion and is ready to settle into a home where she can feel safe, comfortable, and loved for years to come.**Spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines & monthly prevention. Weighs about 40 lbs**

Story
This pretty girl is Minestrone. Minnie, for short. She’s a brand new face at FDHS, and her story is a heavy one.Minnie, her puppies, and her friend Pho were found abandoned at Independence Dam State Park. It’s obvious that months of neglect had taken their toll on this little family. Their skin and coats were painfully damaged. They were uncomfortable, worn down, and in need of some serious help. Minnie was in the worst shape of them all. Her skin was severely inflamed. Patches of fur were missing. Scabs covered her scrawny body from constant itching. And when she first arrived, she carried the saddest expression. Since coming into our care, she has made such an improvement! With medication, gentle hands, and a clean place to rest, Minnie is already beginning to heal. Her body is improving, but it’s her spirit that stands out the most. She is a gentle soul with the kindest eyes. A little timid at first, but once she feels safe, she leans in for love like she’s been waiting for it her whole life. Minestrone keeps her kennel spotless. She walks nicely on leash. She has been nothing but gentle with staff and seems friendly with other animals. Despite everything she has endured, Minnie remains sweet, and trusting. She still has healing to do, but she is on the right path. And now, she’s ready for the next chapter. Minestrone is officially accepting applications for her happily ever after.**Spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines & monthly prevention. Weighs about 50 lbs**

Story
My name is Spice, and I recently arrived at FDHS with my friend Sugar (she’s here too!). I’m a gorgeous German Shepherd and I’m told I’m a very good girl… just with a little extra razzle dazzle.I have some pretty big feelings, which is something a lot of Shepherds share. The shelter has been a tough place for me because it’s loud and busy, and that can make an already anxious girl feel a little overwhelmed. But if you take me out of the kennels and spend some one-on-one time with me, you’ll see the real me. Out in the yard, away from all the noise, I’m pretty close to perfect.I’m smart, eager to please, and very motivated by treats. I may not have had a ton of formal training yet, but I’m ready to learn and I think I’ll pick up new commands very quickly. I do need a little help with my leash manners, but I have great recall in the fenced yard and I try really hard to listen. I also keep my kennel nice and clean and I’m not very destructive with my toys.I can be a little nervous when meeting new people, but with a soft voice and a few snacks, I warm up quickly. I’ve been a bit reactive with some of the other shelter dogs, but it’s hard to be your best self in a place like this. We don’t know yet how I am with kids or small animals. The people here think the real me is just waiting to shine once I’m in a calm, loving home. I’m just looking for my person… someone who understands a girl like me.

Story
It’s Britney!Britney is a gorgeous white dog and a natural born star who brings full pop-princess energy everywhere she goes. She lives for the spotlight, loves an audience, and isn’t shy about singing her heart out. She might not be everyone’s ideal playlist, but her bold spirit and big personality are destined to be someone’s dream dog. She’s an energetic, happy girl who thinks every person she meets is a new fan. Britney isn’t the best match for homes with small children or cats, but she does well with dogs who can keep up with her high energy and performance level. She also struggles a bit with being left alone and isn’t a fan of crates, so she’s hoping for a home where she doesn’t have to spend much time offstage. If you’re ready for a fun loving diva with a heart of gold, Britney is more than ready to take center stage in her forever home.**Spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative, and up-to-date on vaccines & monthly prevention.
