Story
Meet Rudy! Rudy is a 55 pound Red and Cream Aussie who is around a year/ year and half old. Rudy was pulled from the Iowa eviction/puppy mill situation at the end of September. Rudy has been settling in to rescue and his foster home well. Rudy is dog and people friendly, although timid at first. He would love a dog playmate that he can wrestle with. He has a strong toy drive and will steal toys from his foster brother, so a dog companion that is ok with that would be ideal. Rudy is a big toy chewer and destroyer. Rudy loves to cuddle and is very sweet. He does well with the kids and neighbors on the other side of the fence when they come up to greet him. He has impressive recall and is definitely a velcro dog. Rudy is doing well on leash for walks. Rudy eats his meals in his crate, but his foster has not witnessed any resource guarding. Rudy is house trained and crate trained. He is working on not jumping upon greeting, adjusting to the home environment and inside rules, including not chewing on pillows and blankets. He is a typical young dog! The details: Fence: Yes Dogs: Yes Cats: No Exposure Children: Good through fence, no additional exposure All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. You can find our application at www.aussierescuemn.com. Story
Meet Kali! Kali is a 6 year old, 30 pound, AKC Mini Red Tri American Shepherd. From her owner/foster: Kali is our sweet little firecracker who will fiercely love you but takes a little bit of time to warm up. Herding dogs (as a blanket statement) were bred to serve their farmer and protect their herd. Kali fits this more traditional mold by showing loyalty, intelligence, and instinct to protect. She is unbelievably sweet and lives for cuddles on the couch, neck scratches and even LOVES the bath, yes you read that correctly. She treats it like a trip to the spa! She is also our protector and barks when cars pull up or new people arrive to the house. She also responds well to calling her in and she has a great recall! She loves exploring, playing with the other dogs (good with kitties too) and being with her people. When Kali sees something new in her environment (cars in the driveway, new people) her first thought is fear which triggers an immediate reaction which for Kali is almost always an alarm bark and running 10-15 away so she can assess. You can almost see her brain shutting off and her body giving in to sheer instinct. Because of this, Kali doesn't do well with any strong discipline, but she is very receptive to a calm and slight correction. She bonds well with humans, and I find that if she is on a leash, she feels safe and is easy to work with. Kali will want to choose flight every time, but because I cannot trust the variables in situations, I can't say with certainty that she would NEVER choose fight. There has never been a time that I have been fearful of Kali, but unfortunately when dogs feel afraid, and their bodies move faster than their brains can keep up there is always a chance something might happen. Kali would do well in a home that had other dogs, but because of her sensitivity I would not place her in a home with young children. We have worked with this girl a lot over the years and have found a routine that keeps her feeling safe and happy. A big part of this is being able to manage her environment, keep the unknown variables to a minimum and give her support and confidence when she's met with something new. Our home is busy, and I think she would do better in a home where there are not constant visitors. I have no issues as Kali, at heart, is a lovebug and I know how to treat her to build her confidence. She loves quiet attention, walks, and lots of naps. She is quite low maintenance as she is not super energetic and is happy to hang at home and go for walks every now and then. She is not very toy motivated but loves her food! With the right home, and enough time, I am confident she will bond with her new human, and I also believe she will ultimately be a happier dog. I love all my dogs, but I am realistic about recognizing that our environment is not always the best fit for some personalities. The Details: Good With Dogs: Yes Good With Cats: Yes Good With Kids: No Fence: No All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. Is Kali right for you? Story
Meet Bailey, an 8 month old spayed female Aussie. Bailey is most likely a working line Aussie and therefore has lots of Aussie energy. She loves to run around the yard and wrestle with the other dogs in her foster home. She previously lived with cats and did well with them as well. She needs slow introduction to dogs as she can be a overwhelming at first meeting. Bailey is learning to trust and has stranger danger that she is working through. She will need a patient home that can let her warm up at her own speed. We highly recommend getting her in to socialization classes to increase her positive experiences. Once she warms up she is the biggest cuddle bug and loves to be a lap dog 💛 Bailey does well settling in her crate and views it as a safe place to retreat to when she feels nervous. The details: Needs Fence: No, if lots of space to run Good with Dogs: Yes Good with people: Yes, but needs patience Good with cats: Yes Good with children: Yes All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. Story
Meet Marti! Marti is a 5 year old, neutered, double merle, male, who came to us almost completely feral. He is a slightly pudgy 40 pounds, crate trained, house broke (but still leaks a little urine when sleeping although we haven't tried medication for that yet as it has been improving). As he is double merle he has some vision issues as well. Marti will need a very special owner that is willing to give him plenty of time to learn to trust. At his foster home Marti gets along with other dogs, is great with cats, and walks off leash in a rural setting. Marti is that lower energy aussie everyone's looking for and would like a quiet home. Marti will need more training in cooperative Care which his foster is working on and is easy to implement. The details: Needs Fence: Depends on setting (needs to gain trust to be leashed, fence necessary in busier area) Good With Dogs: Yes Good With People: Needs patience Good with cats: Yes All of our dogs live in foster homes with volunteers. Story
Meet Maisey, she is a 42# 6 year old female Blue Merle Aussie / Border Collie mix. She is up to date on all of her vaccinations. She is a typical velcro dog who is happiest being wherever you are. She is high energy, but does have an off switch and will sit quietly while you work. She has had free run of the house, and will tolerate, but does not like being crated. She loves car rides. She is 100% housebroken and has never destroyed anything by chewing, except a few (very squeaky) soft toys. Smart as a whip and knows all of the basic commands. She struggles a bit to sit as she had a major surgery a few years ago on one of her back legs. She has very good recall off leash. She loves and is well behaved in dog parks and does well on a leash. She is a sniffer, but not reactive to other dogs on walks if a reasonable distance is kept. She has a definite "stranger danger" mindset- but only when someone new is coming too near or into her house or too close to her car. Maisey needs to be in a one dog, adult only household. Her herding instinct is strong and within the past 18 months she has turned to herding, bullying and brawling with the older Aussie in the home. A smart, sassy little girl, who wants to be the (only) center of someones attention. We need an approved application on file to set up a meeting with a dog you might be interested in. Story
Stash is 4 months old, and is the baby of a mini Aussie shepherd dad and a mom who is half pug, half yorkie. He’s very sweet and loves to cuddle and play. He gets along great with other dogs, but is a little too aggressive with small children. A new home would have no small children, another dog for him to be with, and enough time to work on house training with him.

Story
There will be a rehoming fee to ensure he goes to a good home. Purebred Aussie. 9 months old. Not fixed(no requirement to be fixed for new home).Good with cats and kids although will need training with very small kids, he is blissfully unaware, unknown with other dogs. Knows common commands and does well on a yard leash, is somewhat trained on the halo collar. Butters is house trained (sits by the door when he has to potty) and sleeps near the bed on his own bed. Loves ice cubes, antler bones and chewing on his toys. He has not chewed the furniture or any shoes. Cuddles by your feet or up on your lap if you let him. Has been a country dog and doesn’t bark often unless something is out of the ordinary. Would be good for him to have a job as his herding instincts are active. Crate trained if needed but he does well inside the house. He’s an extremely good boy and we know his family is out there! If applying, please check spam folder for reply, typically in 24 hrs. In chisago county.

Story
A foster favorite, (and neighbor endorsed), Tettegouche is an affectionate tri-colored pup with lots of speckles including on his belly. Tettegouche is a well socialized pup that we believe is about 10-11 weeks old. He arrived at PUP well fed and well cared for. We think his mom (pictured) is a Swiss White Shepherd (basically a white German shepherd) mix. Daddy was probably an Aussie X but that is best guess. Tettegouche is very sweet and a good cuddler. He is playful and loves people. We believe Tettegouche will weigh about 55-65 as an adult but that is best guess, and his adopter should be prepared to love him if he is a fit larger when he is all done growing. Tettegouche and his 3 siblings were surrendered to PUP by their owners who lived in a remote rural area. They wanted to find good homes for their pups so they surrendered them to PUP and asked if we would help them get their mom dog spayed. The answer was yes. Puppies are now living with other puppies and dogs and are thriving. They have had lots of company and lap up the attention. Tettegouche is doing a very good job of learning housebreaking, but he is not quite there yet. He takes care of business right away when he goes out. If you take him out on a regular basis, it all ends up outside. He is being crated at night and for 4-5 hour stints during the work day. He walks reasonably well on a leash (for a puppy). The early months are when puppy learns the social skills needed to be a skilled dog in dealing with other dogs and a good citizen in the human world. Adopters should be committed to getting puppy into lots of new and different human social situations, hearing vacuums, trucks, and rattling garbage cans, meeting people who are clapping, laughing, with hats, tools, bikes and skate boards. AND puppy needs many opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes and dispositions. Just sharing a home with another dog is not as much doggie socializing as puppy needs. If good canine social skills are not learned and maintained during these early months, it will be very difficult to ever master them. Puppy play dates, trips to the pet store, puppy socialization classes and later, obedience classes are particularly important. If all this doggie time and involvement seems like a good idea, you are up for a puppy! As always, a tired dog is a good dog. Tettegouche has been vaccinated and wormed. He will need one more routine vaccination plus rabies at the owner’s expense. The $375 adoption fee (check or cash) includes the cost of pup’s required spay/neuter at 6 months of age provided it is done by one of the PUP vets. We do place puppies outside the metro area but a plan for the required spay/neuter must be in place. We do not ship. If you are at least 21 years old and everyone in your household is on board with adopting a puppy, CALL 651-645-4370 between 7:00 am and 9:30 pm and we will return your call within 24 hours. If you elect to contact us via e-mail it may take several weeks for us to get back to you. Renters must provide proof that you are allowed to have a puppy. If you currently have a companion dog or cat please be prepared to provide a vet reference prior to adoption if requested. Video link to an additional video https://youtu.be/C_bs7vokzPU
