She loves curling up next to her people and would happily spend an evening snuggled on the couch-or better yet, on your lap. Although she has very limited vision (okay, she's basically blind) she doesn't let it define her. She enjoys going for walks and, once she learns her surroundings, gets around remarkably well. Like all of us, she's not perfect, but her resilience, gentle spirit, and loving heart shine through every day. Tarzan is full of life and always ready for the next adventure. He has one hilarious superpower: if there's an open car door, don't be surprised if he launches himself into the seat like a little Superman, convinced it's time for a road trip! To Tarzan, every car ride is another chance to be with his favorite people, and his excitement is impossible not to love. Together, they're the perfect team. They adore each other, but they also have a funny little rivalry over one very important prize-your lap! Meet Sidney! Sidney is living proof that dynamite comes in small packages. This spunky little terrier mix is cute enough to melt your heart… and sassy enough to keep life interesting. She struts around like she owns the place (and to be fair, she kind of does) and has declared herself Queen of All Toys. Sidney came to AFRP as a nervous stray, but she’s been leveling up ever since. She’s smart, she’s determined, and she even graduated from basic obedience class (yes, she has a diploma). She still gets a little shouty in new situations and thinks every stranger she meets is auditioning for a role in her personal sitcom. But once she decides you’re cool? Prepare yourself for ALL the cuddles and love. Her favorite hobbies include zooming around the yard, hoarding toys, and making sure her royal subjects (aka her humans) know she’s the star of the household. Sidney is searching for an adult-only home with people who “get” small reactive dogs and can keep her safe, secure, and adored. She’s a bit of a flight risk (tiny ninja legs + lightning speed = lots of determination), so she needs a fenced yard and baby gates inside to prevent her from pulling a Houdini. Also, no cats please—Sidney insists. ** This pet is a Foster-to-Adopt candidate! That means you can foster them for a short trial period to make sure they’re the perfect match for your home before finalizing the adoption. Looks like: Border Collie, Shepherd mix Male, 6 years old (estimated), 40 pounds Guppy is true to his roots, blending the energetic, playful spirit often seen in a Border Collie with the loyal, protective qualities of a Shepherd-type dog. He thrives when he has both physical activity and mental engagement in his day; whether that's a lively game of fetch, exploring new environments, or simply being your trusty sidekick on everyday adventures. He also has a softer side and enjoys winding down with his person, happily settling in for snuggles after a full day of fun. Guppy is not considered a good fit for a feline household at this time, and any canine companions would need to be thoughtfully and carefully introduced to ensure a good match. While Guppy is a calm, sweet dog most of the time, he has had his moments of aggression. X-rays revealed arthritis in his back, which may contribute to his handling sensitivity and reactivity toward men. He does have a bite history, biting a man twice after having his feet wiped and another time after being harnessed. He is now on medication, and he would benefit from an experienced handler and quiet home, preferably with only women. Guppy came to us from Hitchcock Road Animal Shelter after being found as a stray. He is now looking for a committed, experienced, and patient home that can continue to help him thrive while respecting his needs and boundaries. With the right understanding and structure, Guppy has so much potential, and he's ready for a person who can appreciate both his joy and his complexity.

Our boy Onion Ring is full of pep, loves exploring, and is always ready to greet you with a wagging tail or trot alongside you for a stroll. He's the perfect blend of playful and easygoing, happy to join in on the fun before settling in for some well-earned cuddle time. Onion Ring is a social little guy who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and absolutely adores people. Whether he's making new friends on a walk or curling up beside you on the couch, he's happiest when he's part of the action. His foster reports "Onion Ring is so cute. He is friendly, cuddly, good with other dogs and cats. He likes to sleep on the bed day or night, especially near his "person." Gives the big hello. House trained. He doesn't have any teeth." Onion Ring joined us from Hollister Animal Services where he was found as a stray.

This sweet senior knows how to enjoy the simple things in life: leisurely walks, long naps, cozy couch snuggles, belly rubs, and staying close to her favorite people. Margaret is easygoing and gets along beautifully with other dogs, and she peacefully coexists with cats, too. She may be a little cautious when meeting new people, but give her a few moments, or treats and she'll happily soak up all the love and attention. She's perfectly content exploring the yard, snoozing the day away, or following her foster mom from room to room. She even loves being held like a baby! Margaret walks wonderfully on leash and enjoys getting out for strolls at her own relaxed pace. She's a low-energy companion who's happy to match your lifestyle. When left alone, she's content to curl up for a nap, and while she might let you know if the doorbell rings or if a suspicious traffic cone appears outside, she's otherwise a calm, quiet housemate. She's still polishing up her housetraining and would do best in a home without lots of stairs, as her back legs aren't as strong as they once were. But don't let that fool you, this little lady still has plenty of joy, love, and zoomies to share. Everyone who meets Margaret falls head over heels for her, and it's easy to see why. She's unbelievably sweet, incredibly soft, absolutely adorable, and has a heart as big as her love for belly rubs. If you're looking for a loyal best friend to fill your home with gentle companionship and daily smiles, Margaret is ready to steal your heart. Margaret joined POMDR from Contra Costa Animal Services when it was determined that, given her age, she would be a good fit for our program.
