I was picked up, along with 4 other dogs, when we were running at large in the East Liverpool area. We were all very thin and had quite a few scars and sores on us (likely from competing for food). I am a very sweet and affectionate little boy. I will need work with some basic puppy stuff like potty habits and basic training, but I'm a very nice little boy overall. I came into the pound in July of 2025, with 7 other dogs from a property where 11 other dogs had previously been seized from in January of 2025. We lived very neglected lives before making our way into the pound. We were kept outside with minimal or no shelter year-round, regardless of weather. I was one of the “lucky” dogs that had an actual doghouse, but that’s about the most luxurious thing that can be said about my previous life. Despite the way we lived and how unsocialized we had been, I have a very sweet and friendly personality. I can bark a little at new people when I am in my kennel or in the play yard, but I will let you open the gate and walk right in with me without any issues. I will happily go for a walk with you, or you can just give me attention. I have learned what toys are since being here and wow! I’ve got to say… I sure do love playing with toys!!! I love balls, and squeaky toys and bones! All the toys!! I also love other dogs, and I have done great meeting and being around all the other dogs here at the pound. I do fine being kenneled with other dogs that came from where I did, but I also do fine kenneled by myself. Despite having been an outside dog, I do really try hard to keep my space clean and would likely catch on fast to potty training. I am sweet, quiet in my kennel, was very clean and appeared very well cared for, yet I was never claimed by my owner. I appear to be housebroken and I do know some basic commands, though if I don't respect you, I will not listen to you. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.
