Story
Introducing Lucy!  She is a darling 3 year old mixed breed dog that was rescued because her owner's landlord changed the terms of their lease.   Lucy has really settled in nicely at her foster home. It's now time for her to find her "furever" home. Lucy is doing terrific at her foster home. Her foster parents say she is so loving, happy, and affectionate. Lucy sleeps in her crate peacefully at night. She even periodically takes herself to her crate during the day when she needs a little time to herself. Lucy loves going on walks and is walks nicely with a gentle leader. Lucy's favorite activities are cuddling on the sofa, zoomies in the backyard and playing (destroying) her toys. Those darn squeakers in her toys are just too irresistible!;-) Lucy will thrive in a home as an only dog with active people. She loves being outdoors and would be a great hiking companion. Her foster parents say that she is so smart and they are working on commands with her. Lucy is a great balance of an active, athletic dog and a goofy couch potato If Lucy sounds like the dog for you please complete an adoption application at roversretreat.org Lucy's adoption fee is $400 Questions can be sent to Danelle@roversretreat.org

Story
Nikki is the sweetest and friendliest 9 1/2 year old German Shepherd mix female, and she weighs 75 pounds. She absolutely loves people, always has a big smile on her face, and is very affectionate. She is one of those dogs that just loves to be at her person’s side. Nikki is housebroken and crate-trained, but she needs a home with no other dogs. She is excellent on leash, walking right by her person, and behaves very well around the public. She is a trained dog – she knows “Heel”, “Sit”, “Stay”, “Come” and “Down”. Also, she has done an agility course and loved it. Nikki is great in the car - she has no problem jumping into the back of a SUV - and also does well during grooming. Nikki was owned by an elderly man who had saved her from one of the high-kill shelters in 2015. She was his heart and soul. Sadly, her owner had a terminal illness and passed away a few years ago, and Nikki has been looking for a forever home ever since. Nikki is a very gentle, kind soul, very calm in the house and a velcro dog that follows her person around. She will be a wonderful companion for someone who is older and home a lot. What type of home does Nikki need? • A household with or without kids, as she loves everyone • Someone who is home a lot • A home where she can be an only-dog • Since she is very agile and can jump, a yard that is enclosed by a min. 6-ft. tall fence If you’re interested in Nikki, please fill out our adoption application. Questions can be addressed to nancy@roversretreat.org

Story
Barney Fife is a handsome 7 yr old senior Lab with beautiful bronze fur. He weighs about 85 lbs., so he is a big boy! He was found as a stray by a good Samaritan who sought help from SCLRR. We don't have any information about his history. However, his body and temperament tells the story of a dog who likely lived outdoors most of his life, yet was loved enough that he enjoys and is relaxed around all people- craving affection and responding to basic commands. He even knows how to shake hands! Barney Fife loves everyone he meets, male or female, young, old, and just wants to be loved! He lived with his first foster for 2 months in a condo with his foster lab sister and did very well. Barney is now with his second foster family and is enjoying having a large yard and hanging in the house with his chocolate lab foster brother and Bichon mix foster sister. He also has done well with the two foster male cats, but likes to steal their food. Clearly he is a Labrador! He does well in the busy household with 3 teenage children and his foster Mom and Dad. Barney loves to ride in the car, and is well behaved while waiting, if you run an errand or two. He does fine being alone in the house for a few hours and usually just goes right to sleep. As a tall dog, the Lab in him keeps an eye on nearby counters and tables, so food needs to be out of reach. When on leash, he does sometimes pull when he sees something of interest, but he is easily corrected when using a pronged collar. Barney is looking for a home with at least one seasoned big dog person and lots of love. He is fine on his own, but he really likes to be with his people, so a person that works from home would be ideal. He is a quiet boy and rarely barks. The only time he barks is when he is letting us know he is done with his meal. We keep all the dogs separate to eat as they like to sample each others food! He would be good with other dogs or would be fine as your one and only. Barney is an absolutely sweet dog that just wants to be with you. He often just lays near his foster mom while she does dishes, laundry, or doing work in her office. Barney has good manners and does not jump on people, which is helpful as he is quite a big boy. If you love those big, sweet boys, Barney is ready to come home. Just reach out to your Family Rep to meet this good boyIf you are interested in making this Lab part of your family, please contact your SCLRR family representative. If you have not yet applied with us, please submit an online application to adopt; an SCLRR volunteer will then contact you. Please note that your homecheck must be approved in order for you to be put in touch with the dog's foster home.
