Story
For those who are up to a challenge, we are looking for an experienced foster/adopter who can help Hopper. Hopper is a special little guy who needs someone who can work with him and his issues. He has triggers that have lead to bites. He needs help working with someone who knows how to retrain his brain. Hopper is a quirky little guy who does love people, especially when they understand his quirks. Hopper is trustful of the person who cares for him and loves to cuddle and get belly rubs. He needs a person to understand his boundaries and that he gives love on his terms. He loves to run at full speed into rooms to greet everyone there. He is very food motivated. He does not like to be picked up and has a dislike of harnesses. He's getting better with allowing harnesses but needs more work on being desensitized to them. He needs someone who understands and accepts that he does not like being picked up, which is not really necessary. He's learned to use stairs to get up on the couch to sit next to you. At night, he's good in a kennel or on a dog bed. Hopper is good with other dogs who are his size. He's not too welcoming of bigger dogs but tolerates them to a point. He can be food protective so no trying to take away his bowl once he's eating (who would do that anyway?). Hopper is neutered, vaccinated and house trained (might mark in the beginning like most male dogs do). Please contact us if you can help Hopper. Story
Meet Maple! This pretty girl originally came to our rescue 2 years ago when we rescued her from a Riverside Shelter. She is now 4 years old. It was immediately apparent that Maple did not come from ideal circumstances. She was extremely fearful of humans. When approached she would run, yelp, and scream to try to avoid being touched. She had stress patching and wouldn’t eat dog food out of a bowl, however, she knows exactly what people's food is. She was placed with a great foster that worked with her on trusting people. Slowly she began to gain confidence and progress into such a good girl. Once she had some progression and was easier to work with Maple was adopted. We were so happy that she had a home that could accommodate her. Through the years of regular pictures and videos, she seemed to be living her best life with her family. She was going on trails with horses, camping, swimming in her pool, and keeping all the kids and dogs quiet and in line at her house. She grew to be a very independent dog but seems to dislike loud noises, people arguing or anyone touching her without her permission. Unfortunately, due to extremely unforeseen circumstances, Maple ended up at the Riverside Shelter at the end of October. We pulled her as soon as the shelter would allow us to but it was still over a week and Maple became stressed and scared again. Maple was taken in by a new, temporary foster home to help her decompress and gain trust again. Although the shelter was hard on her she was definitely showing that she had progressed greatly throughout the years. Her current foster has allowed her to become independent, trusting, and even playful and loving at times with her person. She is still not a fan of being touched without permission but will let you know when she wants pets. Being picked up is still hard but with a blanket and some patience, it can be done. She loves to sit right next to you once you have settled on the couch or in bed. She can co-exist with other dogs and probably cats. We recommend a home with children 12 or older. Due to past trauma, she does not like leashes, collars, and harnesses, and therefore doesn’t go on walks. She enjoys her space, her treats, her blankets, and her person. Once she finds her person she will love and protect them for the rest of her life. She is currently using potty pads inside but will go outside, is crate trained and enjoys the sunlight and following her person around. If you would like to learn more about Maple to foster or adopt please email us at heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com.

Story
Othello, our 10-year-old, 15lb Rat Terrier mix, is ready for his forever home. He is a very sweet and calm dog. He does well with other dogs and is good with people. He may be a little timid in the beginning but warms up quickly once he gets to know you. He is good on walks, loves his naps and toys. Othello can have some separation anxiety at first but does better when he adjusts to his new environment. One quirk of his is that he is an escape artist, a real Houdini, therefore, high walls are preferred. However, once he has adjusted and is comfortable in his new home, he just wants to stay home and get all the love he deserves. He has been waiting very patiently for someone to notice him. We think he's a hidden gem that deserves to shine. If you would like to know more about him or have questions, email us at heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com.

Story
Roma is a female, 12-year-old Terrier Mix who was rescued from the shelter. When we first saw her, she was in the medical section, all curled up, recovering from dental cleaning/extraction and kennel cough. Her records also showed she had other health issues; a heart murmur grade 2, skin infection, and severe dental tartar, before the dental and extractions. She only has most of her lower left side teeth. Roma was very matted and malnourished to the point you could see her bones and was deemed anemic. The shelter took good care of her, giving her meds, and taking radiographs and blood work. We gave her medical care and in her foster home, she received good care, a better diet, and lots of love. Roma is much better, with her kidney and liver levels back to normal. She's gained weight and her hair has grown. She is a very loving, healthy senior dog. She even has a foster brother who engages her in play and holds up her own with his young antics. She is a playful and loving dog who likes to curl up next to you or get comfy on your lap. Roma is a dear and deserves a good home to live out the rest of her years. If you are interested in adopting Roma to make her a part of your family, please contact Heart and Home Rescue Organization at 951-708-0626 or email heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com.

Story
Meet Shiloh. When we got him at 3 months old, he was a little 10lb old dude. Now at 8 months he has grown so much. He is now the size of a terrier, weighing in at 20lbs. He still has that puppy energy and can play with toys and other willing dogs non stop. He has learned to walk on a leash and harness, but still needs practice since he pulls a little or can get startled by noise. Sniffing and smelling everything is one of his favorite activities. His sit and stays are so much better too. Shiloh is crate trained, but prefers to sleep all cuddle up next to his human on the bed. He can sleep all night without having to go potty, but will let you know when he has to go out. He loves food and will try to eat everyone else food before his. So, he still has to be supervised while eating. He has received all his vaccines, had his neuter surgery and is microchipped. Now we hope to find him his loving forever home. Will do good with an active family and one able to keep up with his training. Another young dog that likes to play would be a plus. For more information on Shiloh, please email us at heartandhomerescueorg@gmail.com.

Story
Max is an approximately 2-year-old, neutered male. He weighs in at 25 pounds and is long and tall. Max loves to cuddle and give kisses. He’s a family-friendly pet who loves to be the center of attention. He enjoys long walks and playing with his toys. Max is a dog who enjoys the company of and playing with other dogs. He would also be okay with both being the only dog of the house, provided he gets lots of love and attention. While being in his foster family’s care, he has learned basic commands, learned how to go potty outside as well as on potty pads, but is still a little rough around the edges. He could easily trained to use a doggie door. He has lots of energy and is still working on eliminating his desire to jump on humans. He is very treat and attention motivated and is easy to train overall, he just needs consistent and firm reinforcement. His foster family includes small and large children, both of which he does well with. Max is a dog requiring supervision if he’s around smaller children. Although very friendly, he sometimes forgets his size when playing with toys and young children. His favorite game to play with other dogs and humans alike is, “tug of war,” and he is quite good at it! During his time with his foster family, Max started urinating blood, marking, and peeing everywhere, every few minutes. Feeling like something serious was wrong, Max was rushed to the veterinarian. A veterinarian visit revealed he had a urinary tract infection and inflammation of his prostate; nothing some antibiotics and neutering wouldn’t fix. Max had fully recovered, no longer marks around the house, and acts like a gentleman. Max is a fun-loving, empathetic, and cheeky younger dog, with many years left to love and play. He requires a person or family with lots of love to give, time for walks, and firm & positive training reinforcements. As long as he’s exercised, he can be left alone during the day for his person/family to work and return home. In his foster family, he has been left alone with his other dog friends for the duration of a workday. As long as he has his walk, or has friends to play with, he is a happy camper.
