Story
Roo was the product of backyard breeding in Flint, MI, most likely to supply fighting rings. As a puppy she was so horrifically abused that she is now the only surviving dog of her litter. She thankfully escaped with her life and a kind neighbor rescued her before it was too late. Roo has now has made it home with a wonderful foster momma living her best life ever. Of course, there are deep emotional scars for Roo, she’s been severely beaten by both humans and dogs, so she’s very fearful of other dogs and most anyone she meets. It takes her a while to warm up so Roo’s future adopter may have to visit with her a few times before taking her home. Once Roo knows you won’t hurt her, she is ALL IN. You will never meet a more affectionate and loyal dog. She’s the perfect example of a Velcro-pitty, which is miraculous knowing the terror her life once was. Of course, because of her fearful nature, we would recommend a home with older and/or dog savvy children who know to give her space to feel comfortable. We also recommend a home without other dogs because all her dog experience has been traumatic thus far. Roo is the perfect candidate for a calm, peaceful household because she would much rather snuggle up for a Netflix marathon instead of a 5 mile hike. She’s potty-trained, and crate train (though she probably doesn’t need one) and an all around great dog who deserves a life of comfort and security after years of pain and fear. If Roo seems like a good fit for you, please email us! Adoption fee: $200 Breeds are best guesses based on visual appearance, background and behavior.

Story
Topaz may be recently famous because of his news story, but he’s had a humongous fan-base for years now at the local shelter. Topaz arrived at the shelter as part of a cruelty case. He spent the first years of his life at the end of a chain, and was attacked by other dogs on the property. Then, because he was considered “live evidence” Topaz lived in a kennel at the shelter for 2.5 YEARS. During that time, every shelter volunteer fell head-over-heels for the goofy, affectionate big ol’ boy. Despite his beginnings of abuse and then two plus years of loneliness, Topaz is the happiest, friendliest, most well-adjusted guy you’ll meet. He loves everyone, kids included (although we recommend older and dog savvy kids because Topaz thinks he’s a 75 pound lap dog.) He even likes other dogs, but he plays a bit rough and can be a little rude at times. Hey, he never learned how to properly play being stuck on a chain! But despite it all, Topaz is settling in to home-life quite nicely. He’s potty trained and crate trained and he thoroughly enjoys every dog toy he comes across. Everyday for Topaz is like Christmas morning— a warm home, a bin full of toys, and the love of his foster family. Now, we want to give him the best gift of all: a perfect forever home. Adoption fee: $200 Breeds are best guesses based on visual appearance, background and behavior.

AVAILABLE SOON! CONTACT US FOR PRE-ADOPTION! In December of 2022 a group of dogs were taken from a sad and dangerous situation in Flint, MI. Many of the group were puppies who were only weeks old. Some of them came infected with parvo, and many, sadly, did not survive. Most went to foster where they have been raised by giving volunteers, until they legally were released to rescues in May of 2023. Of the three puppies SCARR received from this situation, Jessie James is the only female, but she is determined to stand out. She’s just as rough and tumble as any boy, and has the spunkiest personality. Not only that, but she’s incredibly smart. She already knows so many tricks like sit, down, and touch. Jessie will fit perfectly into any home who’s willing to keep her bright little mind busy and continue with her training. Because she was born into such sad circumstances, and taken away from her mom and siblings too early, we think it best that she be an only dog or with a large, confident dog who can keep her in line. We don’t think she’ll get very big, maybe 50 pounds, but her personality is big enough for a dog twice her size. If you’re interested in our sassy little lass, contact us! Adoption fee: $300 Breeds are best guesses based on visual appearance, background and behavior.

Some of them came infected with parvo, and many, sadly, did not survive. Most went to foster where they have been raised by giving volunteers, until they legally were released to rescues in May of 2023. SCARR was able to rescue 3 of these little pups who are now ready for their forever homes. This is what Duke’s foster mom has to say about Duke: “This is Duke! He such a sweet, playful, go with the flow boy. He loves to cuddle and recently has been sleeping right next to me throughout the entire night. He is mostly potty trained, has a few accidents here and there. Because he was born into such sad circumstances, and taken away from his mom and siblings too early, we think it best that he be an only dog or with a larger confident dog who can keep him in line, but, he’s met cats before and was good, and he’s good with kids. (He’s playful and likes to jump still so they will have to keep that in mind for little kids). He is crate trained and recalls well. He knows sit and stay. We are working on down currently. All in all he’s a great dog and will make a great companion!” Contact us for an application to adopt Duke! Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Stella is a 4 year old spayed Pit. She has been raised with children of all ages (newborn and up), cats, and dogs. Her favorite things are to cuddle up on the couch or bed, and be covered up with a blanket .. she is very much a spoiled baby.. and to eat. She is a very low energy dog and always has been. She walks well on a leash and knows basic commands. Stella is up to date on her vaccines, is current on heartworm and flea/tick meds, and is microchipped. We have raised Stella from the age of 9 weeks and she has been a great family pet. In the last few months since bringing in a new dog, Stella’s behavior has shifted somewhat and she has been more aggressive to the cats she has been raised with. After an incident with the family cat involving both dogs, the decision has been made to rehome both dogs for the safety of the cats. She will go to an excellent home only, preferably one with experience and love for her breed.

Story
Ripley is such a sweet furbaby with older children as well adults. She is 6 6yo, up to date on vaccines and fixed. She was with a couple for 5 years and they had a child whom she was very jealous of. I took her on but she is very jealous of my two small dogs and can no longer live here unfortunately. Looking for a loving home for her. She comes with a bag of food, dish, water bowl, shampoo, toys, kennel and leash.
