Hi there! I’m Darby, a beautiful red Cattle Dog with a big brain, lots of energy, and a heart ready to find my person! If you’ve ever dreamed of sharing your life with a true Cattle Dog, I just might be your girl. I’m smart, alert, energetic, and always ready to see what exciting adventure is waiting around the corner. I love having a purpose, using my brain, and being involved in whatever my people are doing. Hiking buddy? Training partner? Adventure sidekick? I’m ready to clock in!Like any good Cattle Dog, I’ll thrive with an active family who enjoys getting out, staying busy, and making life an adventure. I’m looking for someone who appreciates my intelligence and enthusiasm and understands that a girl like me needs more than a comfy couch. Mental stimulation, consistent structure, exercise, and continued training will help me be the very best version of myself. Give me a job to do and a person to do it with, and we’ll make a pretty great team!I’ve also had the chance to show off my good manners on an outing to Ambridge Do It Best, and I did wonderfully! I was quiet throughout the event, met adults and children, and handled seeing other dogs beautifully. Even when one dog barked at me, I kept my cool. I was certainly interested in my canine neighbors, but I stayed manageable and could easily be redirected. I wasn’t especially interested in the kiddos, either, which is perfectly fine by me!Now, I want to be honest about a couple of things my future family should know. I can be a little protective of things I value, so I’ll need a family who understands resource guarding and is willing to continue working with me using positive, reward-based training. I can trade items for treats, but I’ll need some practice to become more comfortable and consistent. Because of this, a home with respectful tweens and older would be the best fit for me. I’m also a pretty expressive girl! I have opinions, observations, and plenty to say about the world around me, so shared apartment walls might not be my ideal setup. A home where my voice is less likely to be an issue would suit me better.If you’re looking for a clever, loyal, fun-loving companion who will keep you on your toes and make every day a little more interesting, I hope you’ll come meet me! Dogs are individuals and have personality conflicts, just like us. Play groups do not guarantee that territorial or resource guarding issues will not surface in the home.
