Story
Mabel came in with Melody and Mickey. Her Virginia fosters says she's easy-going and has moderate energy. She loves to get her belly rubbed and lay in the sun and be where you are. She's very quiet for a Beagle, walks well on a leash ( does not need long walks), and is doing well wth crate-traning. She does not need another dog, although she’s fine with other dogs around, but has no interest in playing with them yet. Melody is about 4 yrs old and weighs about 20 lbs. Arriving in late February. Story
Annie is a 7 year old coonhound who was originally adopted in 2022. Due to a move and change in the family's situation, Annie needs a new home. Annie is a very sweet dog who loves her people and loves her tennis ball almost as much. She has done well living with other dogs these last couple of years but would also be fine as an only pet or with one companion. She eagerly meets new friends at the dog park and gets along with males and females. Annie is crate-trained and loves to curl up in a ball on her bed but she would prefer to sleep with her humans if permitted. Annie is a high-energy dog and requires daily exercise. She will tirelessly play fetch and loves doing so as much as she likes her walks in the park. She would be a great running companion. Annie is vocal when she anticipates an outing or when playing ball. Annie would love a home where her owner(s) can be be with her much of the time and someone can meet her energy needs If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
Looking for a bluetick coonhound? Gracie is a beautiful hound girl originally from Virginia. She gets along with other dogs and would love to live with a hound companion since that's what she's accustomed to. Gracie is housebroken, sleeps nicely in her crate, and walks well on a leash. She knows some commands and is a fast learner who will benefit from continued training. She is more praise-driven than food-driven. She loves to play with her toys and is playful with other dogs. She's also a great snuggler and loves to roll around on the sofa inviting belly rubs. Gracie probably had one original owner who she loved and trusted. She likes a slow introduction to new people and places, but she does settle in easily. Gracie has been in several foster homes already but had to leave one due to travel schedules and the other due to her prey drive around the cats - so no cats please. Gracie is about 2.5 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. She is available for visits south of Boston. If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
Trudy is a beautiful redtick coonhound who was rescued several months ago from life on a chain in West Virginia. Her Massachusetts fosters report that Trudy is an absolute joy. She is very well behaved. She does not counter surf and is not a big jumper and would probably do well with children. She is not a huge fan of the cold and snow, however she has discovered some holes in the snow in the backyard where animals have burrowed and enjoys rooting them out! She was totally housebroken before the snow arrived, but now needs some coaxing to stay outside, but she's getting used to it. Trudy has not had a lot of interaction with other dogs but she will stand up for herself if another dog is overly dominant. She would be fine as an only dog or with a more submissive independent dog. She is not very interested in playing with other dogs. Trudy really likes to be with her people and is most content when she is with - or can at least see her fosters. She loves to cuddle on the sofa and is a great companion with many good points. She's not a big barker/bayer; she doesn't bother the family at mealtime; she's getting used to her crate and will sometimes go in on her own to chew on a toy or have some quiet time. She sleeps quietly through the night on her own bed near the family. She doesn't mind the car and settles down for longer drives. Trudy would be happiest in a home where someone is there a lot. She is an amazing girl and would make someone individually, a couple with no children, or a family very, very happy. Trudy is 4 - 5 yrs old and weighs 57 lbs. Trudy is available for visits north of Boston. If you’d like to apply to adopt, please submit an application using the link below. Story
Mercy was adopted from NECR in the Fall of 2022 and has been returned to the rescue due to an unfortunate change in her adopter's situation. Sadly, one owner recently passed away, and the other partner is dealing with a move and some medical problems. Mercy has enjoyed a happy 3.5 years with several walks a day, trips to the beach and lots of love and attention. She's a typical hound but a pretty easy companion. Mercy is housebroken, knows a few obedience commands, easily engages with people and is excited to greet and receive attention and petting. She has never displayed guarding behaviors or aggression. She's accustomed to a few long walks every day and goes out on a runner to potty in the yard. She's used to walking on a leash but might pull if she sees squirrels or other critters. Mercy likes to sleep in a dog bed near her owners but may also wander off to sleep in the living room. She was initially crated when no one was home but has not been destructive and is now allowed to be loose in the house. Before Mercy was rescued from a Kentucky shelter, she was attacked by another dog and required surgery to her abdomen. While that has healed, the memory remains and she may be defensive around certain dogs. Her current owners take her to the dog park regularly where she gets along with most dogs but had a couple of incidents with a certain large breed, so care should be taken in that situation. She may be fine with another dog in the home but would be perfectly happy as an only dog. Mercy is 5.5 yrs old and weighs about 60 lbs. She is available for visits in southern NH. Story
Melody is a lively, affectionate Beagle who came to us with Mikey and Melody. Her foster in Virginia says that she is a joy to have around as she gets comfortable with living in his home and with his Jack Russell. Melody enjoys her walks, does well on leash, and likes to nap in the sun. In a new setting, a structured routine is reassuring for her and will help her settle in. She does enjoy hanging out with another dog, but would be okay as an only dog wth an attentive owner. Melody likes attention and at times will seek petting and being held. She is largely housebroken if kept on a routine, and sleeps well through the night on her dog bed. Melody is about 6 yrs old and weighs about 23 lbs. Arriving in late February.
