Story
Duchess is an 11 year-old female mixed breed. Duchess is a friendly old girl who still has a lot of pep in her step! She loves to get out for walks with her volunteer friends, and motors along like she’s half her age. She came to the shelter with her little buddy Jackie Boy, a pint sized Chihuahua, so we think she could live with a smaller dog, but she says no thanks to bigger dogs We would love to get this senior gal out of the shelter and into a quiet home as soon as possible so she can rest easy, so let’s share her info and get her adopted this week! Our shelter is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12-4 (closed Mondays). If you are interested in this pet, please review our adoption process at www.lowellhumanesociety.org/adoption/#process

Story
Meet Diya — The Runaway Diva of AdventureAt just 1½ years old, Diya is the perfect mix of sass, spirit, and sparkle. This sleek black beauty has main character energy in every sense — confident, curious, and always ready to strike a pose after conquering a trail (or your couch).Diya came to us after deciding her neighborhood needed more of her fabulous presence — she just couldn’t resist a good solo stroll! Because of her love for exploration, she’ll need a secure, fenced-in yard and a family committed to keeping her both physically and mentally active. Hiking? Yes. Jogging? Absolutely. Strolling through the park while being admired by strangers? Her favorite. She’s smart as a whip but still working on her manners, so a home ready to continue her behavior training will help her blossom into her full potential. Diya would do best in an adult-only household that understands structure, patience, and the occasional diva demand (she knows what she wants and isn’t shy about it). When it comes to other animals, Diya says, “I’m the star here, darling.” She’d prefer to be your one and only at home but is open to doggy playdates with proper introductions. If you’re looking for a loyal adventure partner with personality for days and a flair for drama, Diya is your girl. She’ll fill your life with laughter, love, and just a touch of diva energy to keep things exciting.Perfect match for: Active adults, hikers, joggers, or anyone who believes a little mischief and a lot of heart make life more fun.

Story
Meet Scruffy :Your Quirky, Loyal, Rule-Loving Best FriendScruffy will be honest with you right up front: he’s not a fan of strangers. When you’re this adorable, people tend to swoop right in with baby-talk and grabby hands; but Scruffy is no puppy. He’s a mature little gentleman with opinions and strong boundaries. Give him space, treat him with respect, and once he decides you’re his person? You’re in for life.Scruffy is looking for a calm, quiet home where structure is the name of the game. This scrappy little guy has a bit of a Napoleon complex—he thinks he runs the place unless someone shows him the rules. He thrives with a person who sets clear boundaries, sticks to them, and helps him feel safe by keeping life predictable. He needs to be your one and only pet. Scruffy isn’t interested in roommates—four-legged or otherwise. He wants a single human to bond with, protect, and adore. No sharing required.Scruffy is a fluffy little stud ready to strut into his new life.If you’re looking for a loyal, funny, slightly dramatic old man who will be your shadow once he trusts you—and you’re ready to give him the structure he needs—Scruffy might just be your perfect match. Ready to let this pint-sized character steal your heart? Stop in during open hours to meet him!

Story
Meet Lorretta — the tiny legend who refuses to act her age!At 15 years young, this spry Jack Russell Terrier has more sparkle than most dogs half her age. Originally adopted from LHS in 2022, Lorretta recently returned to us through no fault of her own — her owner had to travel extensively for work and wanted her to have the stability and companionship she deserves.Lorretta is a professional snuggler and takes her job very seriously. If there’s a blanket, a lap, or a warm human nearby, she’s ready to clock in. But don’t let her senior status fool you — this girl still knows how to play, prance, and charm her way into your heart. She’s got that perfect blend of cozy-cuddly and spry-and-sassy.One important thing to know: Lorretta has been diagnosed with renal disease and will need to remain on a special kidney-supportive diet. Her new family will need to maintain a good, ongoing relationship with their veterinarian to ensure she stays comfortable and well-supported as she ages. She’s worth every bit of that extra love and care.Lorretta would prefer to be your one-and-only pet, soaking up all the attention, but may consider a home with other VERY mellow pets who will let her be on her own and give her space. She can do well with older, respectful, dog-savvy kids. Mostly, she wants a calm home, a comfy bed, someone to snuggle, and a family who appreciates the magic of a seasoned sweetheart. If you’re ready to open your heart to a senior girl with a whole lot of life left to love, Lorretta is waiting to meet you.Our shelter is open every day from 12-4, closed on Mondays. If you are interested in this pet, please email Info@lowellhumanesociety.org to request an adoption application.
