Story
Our sweet old girl Duchess is a 12 year-old female mixed breed. Duchess came back to the shelter recently after finding out that she does not want to live with cats, totally fair! Duchess is a friendly old girl who still has a lot of pep in her step! She loves to get out for walks and motors along like she`s half her age. We believe Duchess would do best as an only pet in a household with adults and possibly older teens . Duchess doesn`t like chaos- she has personally assigned herself as the `fun police`, and she would prefer no rough-housing or rabble-rousing in the house please! Her foster family says “Duchess is an absolute love! She immediately fit right into the family and loves being with her people.  She wants to say hi to everyone who comes over and is just the friendliest sweetest girl. She is going to make someone very happy.”If you are interested in giving this old gal a safe, loving home to live out her golden years, please contact the shelter to schedule a meet and greet. Our shelter is open Tuesday-Sunday from 12-4 (closed Mondays). If you are interested in this pet, please review our adoption process at www.lowellhumanesociety.org/adoption/#process and email adopt@lowellhumanesociety.org to set up a time to meet this gal.

Story
Kira and Lexy are a bonded pair, mother and daughter. They are smaller than they seem in photos; both weigh under 40 lbs. 4-year-old Kira is an easy going girl who can be reserved but once she comes out of her shell she is a complete sweetheart, gives the easiest sweetest kisses. Calm and happy dog indoor and outdoor. Happy to just be by your side along with her side kick Lexy and her canine friends. 3-year-old Lexy is shy and timid and unsure of new humans, but be patient and she is a total love bug who loves love, attention, pats and belly rubs and can`t get enough of your love. She`s super gentle, likes hugs and snuggles. She`s also very calm girl indoor and outdoor who enjoys human company and her buddy momma Kira.No Cats for these girls. They are both excellent walkers on leash. Can walk together no problem. They will do happy dance for treats if you want them to but have really good manners with commands like sit, down, wait. Really easy to care for, they are so calm, gentle, not destructive if left alone. Crate trained as well, so pretty perfect girls. They jus need time to decompress in a new place, so a patient human who is ok giving then few days to let the come out of shell and let them make the first move is ideal. These girls can`t be rushed. But show them a treat and they warm up pretty quickly. She is just a love. Kira & Lexy are in a foster home. If you would like to be considered for adoption, please email adopt@lowellhumanesociety.org to inquire and we can schedule a meet and greet . Applications will be accepted and the best match will be selected for the pet.

Story
Gizmo and Toby: a perfectly mismatched, completely inseparable duo of “brothers from other mothers” who are ready to write their next chapter—together. At 9 years young (with Gizmo proudly adding an extra 9 months of wisdom), these two Shih Tzu gentlemen are the definition of gentle, easygoing companions. After the passing of their beloved owner, they found themselves starting over, and while that kind of change isn’t easy, they’ve handled it with nothing but sweetness, resilience, and an unwavering bond with each other.Gizmo may be the smaller of the two, but he’s got just as much love packed into him. He came to us with a bit of a skin infection, and while he’s already on the mend with medication and regular spa days (yes, baths every couple days—he’s basically living at a wellness retreat), he may continue to have some ongoing skin sensitivities, likely related to allergies. Toby, his slightly bigger partner-in-crime, is right by his side through it all—equal parts cuddle buddy and moral support. When they arrived, both boys were underweight, but it didn’t take long for them to remind us how much they enjoy the simple pleasures in life—good meals, soft beds, and a game of chase-the-tennis-ball. They love going for walks together, exploring side by side like the little old men they are (but don’t tell them that—they still think they’re puppies). These boys are truly the full package: affectionate, friendly, and adaptable. They could do well in just about any home—with respectful kids, teens, other dogs, and even dog-savvy cats—so long as they get to stay together. That part isn’t negotiable. They’ve been through a lot, and their bond is their constant. If you’ve ever thought about opening your home to a pair of sweet seniors, Gizmo and Toby are here to show you just how special that kind of love can be. Twice the dogs, twice the love, and double the reason to come home smiling every day.

Story
Meet Ozzie—your not-so-ordinary rockstar goofball This 1-year-old bully mix is equal parts brains, brawn, and absolute chaos (the fun kind). Ozzie is a smart, eager-to-please boy who lives for his people, a good game of fetch, and—most importantly—cheese. Seriously, you’ve never seen focus like “cheese-motivated Ozzie.”He’s dog-friendly, social, and loves being part of the action, but he’s still a young guy who needs structure, consistency, and continued training to help him be his best self. Ozzie can be a bit of a “bull in a china shop,” so he’d do best with an active adopter and a home with older, sturdy kids/teens who can handle his enthusiastic personality. Cats are a question mark at this time. When he’s not zooming around or testing the durability of his “tough” toys, Ozzie is all about snuggles and soaking up love. With a little guidance and a lot of consistency, this goofy, lovable boy is going to be an incredible companion. If you’re ready to keep up with Ozzie and his wild, wonderful energy—he’s ready to be your biggest fan.
