Story
Molly is one of the sweetest girls you’ll ever meet. She is also super silly, playful and snuggly. The perfect mix of sweet & sassy. Just 2 years old, loves other small dogs and is an expert sleeper. One of her very favorite things is running, chasing squirrelers and chirpmunks so a fenced in yard would be ideal. But, she walks great on a leash too and loves to take strolls with her foster sister in the neighborhood. She will bark at people she doesn’t know but warms up quickly. Molly has been in foster care for several months and has learned what it’s like to be a real dog. She is up to date on all vaccinations, spayed and has had double cherry eye surgery. She’s now ready to find her forever home. If you are looking for a loving, sweet and playful pup, Molly is your girl. Story
Redd's former family surrendered him at the age of 14 years to the shelter, but he was lucky enough to come in the door and go right back out just an hour later to begin his search for a new home as a foster with COALDR. Even though he is said to be 14, never has there been a senior with as much spunky energy as Redd! Every morning this little bundle of joy bounds outdoors with a spring in his step and is excited to explore his yard and greet all of his doggy friends. Redd is house-trained but does use pads overnight. He has had a full medical work-up and was found to be in excellent health. He will be having a much needed dental cleaning on July 1st, and then he will be looking forward to hopping off to his new forever home. Redd loves everyone, so a home with older, respectful children would be fine. Because of his limited sight, very young kids would be an obstacle for him. Redd loves meal times and is happy to vocalize his frustration when he is made to wait. Besides that he is a very quiet dog who would do well in an apartment environment. He loves leisurely walks and enjoys being outside and roaming his yard. Redd is great with other dogs and loves all people he meets. If you would love to give this fun-loving little fellow a forever retirement home, please complete an application to adopt him! Redd weighs in at a slight 11 pounds, is a Poodle/Maltese mix, and is fostered in Smithfield, VA.

Story
With a name like "James" you can be sure you are meeting a very distinguished gentleman. James is a truly regal dachshund and he has a reserved manner befitting a dachshund with a royal name. James was found as a stray and was not reclaimed from the shelter in southeastern Virginia, but he was lucky enough to land a cushy position as a foster with COALDR. His exact age is not known, but his vet feels he is in the 8-10 year age range. Since coming into rescue, James has had a full medical work-up and he is in excellent health which tells that he was a beloved pet in his former home. His only medical need is a dental cleaning, likely with extractions, which he will be receiving on July 1st. Once he has had his dental, James will be ready for his new home, and he has a list of royal demands. James requires a carefully curated diet to help him continue his weight loss journey. He is just a bit on the sturdy side and would like to present a more sleek physique for the ladies. Oh, and about the ladies. James does LOVE the ladies - two-legged ladies and four-legged ones. He is definitely a lover of the females of all species. Now, James is a connoisseur of the finer things in life - a large kingdom where he may roam and rule benevolently, a private bowl for his perfectly clean tepid water supply, and the finest of treats to reward him after a long day of naps and kingly undertakings. James' perfect family will be a quiet home with or without other dogs (he does love a lady companion, but he is dedicated to his royal duties so she must be self-sufficient and not too clingy), and no children. As a regal and fine dachshund, James does not fancy being picked up often, or being told what he may and may not do. His middle name may very well be "Stubborn". He does deign to allow belly rubs but on his terms alone and only once he deems you worthy. If you feel that you may offer this very handsome and fine gentleman a castle where he may be king, you may submit an application for his approval. James is fostered in Smithfield, VA.

Story
Squid is a ~2 year old Catahoula Leopard Dog Mix who is a giant love bug. He loves cuddling and will follow you around and spend as much time as he can with you. He doesn't always have a good idea of where his body is and will trip or fall accidentally. He knows all his basic commands, walks well (especially with a gentle leader) and generally does well listening to his owners. We've unfortunately made the tough decision to work to rehome Squid as he no longer gets along with his dog big brother. He also has not had good success with other dogs. He also gets overwhelmed with little kids when they get rowdy. He hasn't bitten any other dogs or humans, but he does growl/bark and snip as a warning. We have worked with him and a behaviorist to improve his behavior, but with things between him and his dog brother going down hill, we no longer think we can give him what he needs to have the best life.

Story
Sailor is an incredibly sweet, gentle Australian Shepherd mix. She is about 2 years old and weighs 43 lbs. Sailor is very playful with other dogs and LOVES to run. She is very fast and is typically the one being chased! Sailor is very sweet and affectionate, freely giving kisses or laying against you on the sofa. She is a little shy with people when being approached quickly. Sailor loves food and will often rest her chin on her foster parents to see what they are eating and more importantly, if they plan to share! Sailor is generally quiet except at mealtime when she barks with joy from the time she realizes her meal is being prepared to when she actually receives it. It is actually quite endearing. She is house trained and crate trained. This super sweet girl will be a great family dog once she gets comfortable in her new home. Sailor needs a fenced-in yard, another playful dog and a home with children 10 and older. Sailor is being fostered south of Boston and is available for visits. View her video at https://www.facebook.com/reel/890620475833826 Sailor is one of the nearly 100 dogs and puppies seized in an alleged cruelty case at a high-volume breeder in Hertford County, North Carolina back in May. Although the dogs being bred were mostly Aussies, this girl was also found on the property. Clearly different than the other dogs, she was identified as a beagle mix. Frankly, we’re not sure how much beagle is in there, if any, but when the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) reached out to ask if we could help Sailor leave their busy care center and get into a foster home, we were happy to help. We are honored to be part of her journey to living a Happy Life! Sailor was likely born on the property. While with HSUS she gained some much-needed weight and has gotten healthy. If you are interested in the cruelty case she was a part of, see the Humane Society’s Press Release from May at https://www.humanesociety.org/news/nearly-100-dogs-and-puppies-rescued-alleged-cruelty-high-volume-breeder-no-place-puppy-north
