Story
My name is Mia and I’m looking for my forever home. My “must haves” are a securely fenced yard and another resident dog to help me to feel safe. I’d love a quiet home with a patient foster family who can help me continue to blossom. I’m almost 1 year old and weigh 27 pounds. I came to SIRA from a commercial breeding facility where I was born. Not long ago, SIRA rescued me and brought me to my foster home here in Sussex, WI. I was so scared when I first got here – I had never lived in a home before and never known humans who were kind. But even though I’m still very shy and skittish, I am getting used to my new life. I love that there are other dogs here. I like to play with them and will groom them to show that I like them. There is a cat here and we like each other too. Sometimes all of us dogs and the cat curl up and sleep with the humans in their big bed. There are lots of soft places to curl up here and hang out. My foster parents say that I’m a natural couch potato - the best partner to binge-watch movies and TV shows with. There are also great toys here to play with and to chew on and yummy things to eat. I’m kind-of a picky eater, according to my foster parents, but I’ve learned that human’s food is so nice, especially ice cream, cheese, chicken, and bread. Sometimes I’ll very quietly sneak up and see if I can steal a treat. Some things I don’t like as much are being outside. There are all kinds of strange noises and people out there that are scary! I’m kind of a night owl – I like it when everything is quiet and dark. That’s when I am feeling most safe and will do brave things like give kisses to my foster mom and dad. I like the familiarity of the house – and I have a few safe-places inside where I run and hide if something spooks me. There are not any little humans here, so I don’t know what I’d think of them, but foster mom and dad think they might scare me to much with their running and squealing and activity. Because I get scared and anxious outside, learning how to leash walk has been slow-going, but foster mom and dad tell me that if my forever family is patient with me and helps me practice a little bit at a time that I’ll eventually get accustomed to it and maybe even enjoy it! But in the meantime, I’m content to look out the windows from the safety of the house where things are nice and quiet. I’m a very good girl indoors. I’m crate trained and potty trained and I don’t make much noise – mostly when I’m playing with the other dogs. I know my name and even some commands! I’m respectful of gates – I haven’t tried to climb over them or scoot under them. I’m a healthy girl – spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations. If you live in the Midwest and are looking for a bff to keep you company, the first step is to start the application process. Visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt. Applying helps SIRA get to know you and your home environment so they can tell if we’d be a good match. Once approved, they’ll introduce you to my foster parents so we can meet.
