Story
My name is Lisa and I’m looking for my forever home! I’m 6 years old and tiny, weighing just 15 lbs. Foster mom says I’m a sweetheart! I came here to Sussex, WI, from the commercial breeding facility where I made puppies. That was a hard life. Living in a home is new to me and I’m still getting used to it, but I like it! I love ear scratches from my foster mom, going outside to chase squirrels and birds, and watching the world around me. So far, there isn’t much I don’t like – except baths. I’m cautious at first and skittish around new things, but I am curious too. I follow my foster mom around and hang out with her when she works from home. I’m also her best gardening buddy. I like it when she carries me and I give her gentle kisses when I'm happy. I’m a quiet girl and well-behaved in my crate. But my goofy side is starting to leak out, like when I lay on my back and wriggle around, or when I smile with my tongue hanging out. I’m a classic escape-artist Shiba. I’ve outsmarted all of the gates already! I love being outside, in the yard or out for a walk. I am very interested in other dogs, though I prefer other dogs that are not too high-energy. There is a cat here, who I ignore. My perfect forever home will be understanding as I adjust to new people and surroundings. I’ll do best with another nice dog to be my friend and show me the ropes. I’ve never met any really little kids, and sudden movements and unexpected noises can spook me, I think I’d do okay with older kids if they are patient and respectful. My forever family will be very careful opening doors, since I’ve shown my escape-artist skills. Knowing how to prevent me from getting loose will be important. I’m healthy, spayed and vaccinated. When I first came into recue, I had 13 bad teeth removed. I feel so much better! If you live in the Midwest and are interested in a sweet, goofy, quiet, adorable girl like me, visit www.savingshibas.com/adopt to learn more and to apply to become approved to adopt. The application process helps SIRA learn more about you and your home so they can make sure we’ll be a good match. Once approved, SIRA will connect you with my foster mom so we can meet!

Story
Katie is almost 7 years old, having spent her first 6 years in a puppy mill. She will require a human with patience and gentleness as sudden noises put her on alert. A home far away from fireworks would be best. She is fostered in a home with both dogs and cats & gets along with all.Earning her trust is not an immediate event, but once you do, she will want to be by your side nearly all the time. Her favorite place to eat is next to her human. As well as sleeping in the same bed."Outside" is becoming more familiar and knows doing her business outside makes her human happy. She also uses the pads inside and her groomer describes her as "a very good girl".Even though she hasn't really figured out "toys" yet, she is very treat motivated. She is being fostered in Hammond IndianaApply to adopt at nbstr.org

Story
Meet Ginger, a loving playful dog who's eager to find her new forever home.  Ginger spent the past 7 years in the same wonderful home after being adopted as a puppy from NBSTR.  Sadly, her owners had to move into assisted living and Ginger found herself needing a new place to call home. Ginger is a terrier mix, weighing in at a sturdy 30 lbs. Ginger adores kids and is a friend to everyone she meets - both human and canine. She is housebroken, making her an easy addition to any household. With her endearing long tongue that often sticks out, Ginger is sure to win your heart. She enjoys playing with toys, going for walks, laying next to her human, and is always ready for fun and games. She's great in the car and can adjust to any situation with ease. Most importantly, Ginger is very loving and will bring joy and affection to her new family. Come meet Ginger and give her the fresh start she deserves!  Ginger is being fostered in Lake Zurich, IL.
