Dottie/ Pomeranian DOB 11/26/20 7lbs Spayed/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Heartworm/Flea Preventative Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered or contacted for adoptions. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications can be found here on our website. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive for a meet & greet. Dottie is a sweet girl just waiting for the right forever home. She came from a life of breeding, so everything has been new for her, but she is doing well adjusting. She is nervous and shy until she gets settled in which can take several weeks so she will need a patient home. Because of her being timid, she needs a calm somewhat quite home. Older, respectful children will be fine with Dottie. Dottie loves playing with the other four-legged friends. A home with another dog of Dottie's size is required. Dottie looks to her foster canine siblings to learn commands & feel safe. We are happy to say that she responds rather jubilantly & has fun playing. Her favorite thing in the whole wide world is to zoom all over the yard, run & run & run & run! At this time, Dottie is still not comfortable on a harness and leash. For her safety, you must have a secure physically fenced yard. Any fence with gaps will need to be reinforced around the bottom area so Dottie is not able to get through the spacing. Additionally, we will make sure the adopting family has a plan to prevent any door-dashing. We have a lot of experience in this, & we can make easy recommendations to help keep Dottie safe. Her forever home will need time to teach her that she is safe. In her foster home she has shown this is possible, time & patience is key. Dottie plays & runs around like a happy dog should. She will even lay on her back & expose her belly while playing! You can find FAQ on our website regarding adoption. Please send us an email with your completed application if you think you'd be a good fit to adopt Dottie!

Mini Poodle DOB 10/08/24. 8mo Neutered / 10lbs UTD Vaccinations Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, complete an application found here https://gateway4paws.org/adoption. Only completed applications will be considered. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, we only schedule meet n greets with the applicant we feel is the best fit for the pup. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & be able to drive for a meet & greet. Ciro is one of those pups that aged out and the breeder needed him out of their program. Because he has not had a lot of human interaction, he is a bit timid at first but does warm up. A quiet, laid-back home would be best. Because he is a puppy, a home where someone is not gone 8 hours or more at one time would be perfect, otherwise it will be difficult to continue with a potty-training routine. If you do work long hours, you will need a plan for mid-day bathroom breaks & make sure you have toys or activities to keep him busy throughout the day. He would also benefit from having another dog in the home of somewhat similar size. Although just about full grown, Ciro will need to be supervised because he is still a puppy. The best way to do that is to set up a dedicated space. This area will be a part of the home where he can see activity & observe, but it is a place that is puppy proofed. Where he can play, lounge, or nap when his family is not directly engaging. Playpens, 4-squares, or x-pens are excellent tools to make this possible. They are easily mobile if you want to move them around, too. Ciro is going to remain a small pup, he will be able to get through some really tiny spaces. If you have a fence, you will need to make sure any gaps are fixed/secured. An aluminum or slat type of fencing will need a gap filler around the bottom half so he can't get through, something like galvanized wire mesh or another sturdy mesh type material. If you do not have a physical fence, an x-pen will be fine to allow him to do his business outside. However, puppies should NEVER ever be left in a yard without supervision, NEVER. You will need to continue to potty training, leash walking, and just basic commands. Training is a process that will require commitment & patience. Remember, in a new home, a new environment means that new habits will have to be established. If you have interior stairs, please have a plan to keep your puppy off the stairs unsupervised. Additionally, please be aware of the stair railing & the distance between the spindles. Safety concerns for small children, large dogs, & people who are unsteady on their feet will be taken into consideration when looking for Ciro's forever home. Bringing home a new puppy is a huge responsibility. It requires lots of patience & time! But it is very rewarding if everyone is invested. Please apply if you meet the requirements & would like to adopt an adorable puppy. Please don’t apply without speaking to your spouse/partner first.

Applications & FAQ about our adoption process can be found on our website. Elio is such a friendly happy little guy! Oh, my gosh. This little trooper is up for family vacations, adventures, and couch time! You want to go on a walk around the neighborhood? Elio is ready. You want to go camping? Elio is ready. You want to sit on the couch & watch a movie? Elio is ready! We think Elio would be happy as an only dog as long as you include him in the family activities. He also gets along fabulously with his canine foster siblings of similar size & playfulness. We are not requiring a fence because Elio is proficient on a harness & leash. This does not mean he should be turned out into a yard unattended; he should ALWAYS be on leash & within your sight. In his foster home Elio has proven to be reliably potty trained. Understand that with a change in environment & schedules, there may be a learning curve. Please plan accordingly & set Elio up for success. If you are looking for a new friend, Elio is ready to meet you!

Story
Lizzie / Cavalier King Charles Spaniel DOB 04/06/17 13lbs Spayed / Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Heartworm / Flea Preventative Health Issues: Heart Murmur / DCM Special Needs: Daily Medication for heart condition Must have a cardiologist Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you meet the requirements, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Applications can be found on our website. Since we are 100% foster-based rescue, only approved applications will be reviewed and/or contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive to a determined place for a meet & greet. Mileage requirements may be lifted for Cavalier or DCM experienced homes. We don't know much about Lizzie's past but best we can determine, she came from a past life of commercial breeding. Thankfully, she is a love bug and is not timid like most are. At Lizzie's intake vet appointment, the vet heard a significant heart murmur. Because of this, we got her seen with the cardiology team at U of I. She was diagnosed with Nutritional Secondary Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM). DCM is not common for the cavalier breed. Her valves look good & there is trivial evidence of tricuspid regurgitation. The concern is with some heart enlargement, so we have started her on a high-quality diet that could slowly reverse this condition. She will need to remain on this diet which does have a monthly cost of about $130. Because of Lizzie's heart condition, she will need to be seen by a licensed cardiologist going forward for rechecks and have an echo completed. These visits cost anywhere from $400 to $800. She is currently being seen every 6 months but could increase. Your local vet is not the same as a cardiologist and they cannot perform these tests. If you don't already have a cardiologist, do the research to see where the closest one is to you and ensure you can make the drive should they be far away. You will be required to provide us the name of the cardiologist you would use when you apply. She is on one medication called Pimobendan which she will remain on this for the rest of her life. This med is currently costing about $50 a month. The other thing our vet noted at her initial vet exam, were how bad her teeth were. She only had 13 teeth but unfortunately, they were bad and all had to be pulled. Good news, Lizzy is in no more mouth pain and you will not need to pay for any more dentals. Lizzie does walk on a leash and harness but she does enjoy a secure physical fenced yard to walk in and do her potty duties. For this reason, we require a secure physical fenced yard for her. Lizzie is allowed on the furniture at her foster home and does just fine while her foster mom is at work. She also sleeps in the big bed at nite with her cavalier friends and foster mom. Therefore, we will not consider applicants who plan on using a crate for Lizzie. Please let us know if you have the perfect home to offer Lizzie by sending us an email. Gateway4paws@gmail.com

Shih Tzu 4yo- DOB 04/07/21 10lbs Spayed/Microchipped UTD on vaccinations Current on flea & heartworm prevention Please read the bio in its ENTIRETY. If you feel your family is a perfect match, please send an email to gateway4paws@gmail.com for additional information. Only complete & qualified applications will be considered/contacted. We do not allow shipping & do not transport. You must live within 350 miles from Maryville, IL & able to drive there for a meet and greet. We are a 100% foster-based rescue. Applications & FAQ about our adoption process can be found on our website. Bianca was one of the first dogs we brought in in 2025. She was shut down & unsure of what the future held for her. We let her decompress in her foster home at her own pace. She has experienced so many new adventures over the first half of this year, every new experience bringing her one step closer to being ready to find her own family. One of her favorite things is...... Belly Rubs! She enjoys coming to you & allowing you to rub her belly & she loves getting attention. We love seeing her be confident & happy. She is afraid of storms & needs someone to be there for her, to reassure her everything will be okay. She will do best learning from other 4-legged siblings, we would like to see her find a home with some friends of similar size & energy level. She follows her foster siblings around, she likes to play with them very gently, no rough housing. She looks to them to show her the ropes of how to be a happy family member. She is still working on potty training, that big backyard can be intimidating. Her family needs to be patient & praise her every time she is outside. You can expect her to ask to be outside on warm sunny days, she loves to lay on the deck & soak up the warm sun. Bianca has steadfastly refused to walk on a leash. She is not comfortable at all & it would be unfair of us to push this on her so early in her new-found freedom. Therefore, for her safety (& for her to be able to do her potty business immediately upon adoption), a secure physical fence yard is required. An aluminum or slat type of fencing will need a gap filler around the bottom half so she can't get through, something like galvanized wire mesh or another sturdy mesh type material. She isn't an outdoor adventure dog; she doesn't need a big yard. But she does need a very secure area to do her potty business. Never EVER should she be left in the yard alone. Bianca is ready to cuddle up & be your new friend for life. We hope to find her family so she can enjoy this summer hanging out in her very own sunny backyard.
