Story
Meet Gumbo – Your Goofy, Big-Hearted Best Bud! Gumbo is a 1-year-old Labrador mix who was found as a stray in O’Fallon on 5/21/25. This happy, outgoing boy was adopted in July and recently returned due to his adopter’s work schedule changing to longer hours. Through it all, Gumbo has remained the same affectionate, people-loving goofball who just wants to be part of someone’s life.Gumbo is friendly, social, and thrives on human interaction. He’s very people-oriented and loves attention—especially booty rubs! He enjoys brushing and bathing, does well at the dog park, and has lived around other dogs. He’s also crate trained and potty trained, making him a great candidate for an easy transition into a home.In the shelter, Gumbo can get anxious in his kennel and overstimulated during loud or chaotic moments, like storms. Once he’s out and able to engage, his energy is upbeat, joyful, and full of personality. He’s much happier when he has structure, movement, and a person to focus on.Gumbo can be very enthusiastic when meeting other dogs and may come on a bit strong. He tends to rush in with excitement and doesn’t always read social cues right away. Because of this, he would do best with a confident, tolerant dog who can match his energy and help him learn appropriate play and communication skills.Gumbo is still young and learning, but with patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement, he will be an incredibly loyal, loving, and entertaining companion. If you’re looking for a fun-loving dog with a big heart and an even bigger personality, Gumbo may be your perfect match.

Story
Meet Otto — 7-Month-Old Bull Terrier Mix Puppy Otto was found as a stray in West Alton on 10/9, an area known for frequent dog dumping. Despite his rough start, he’s a happy, wiggly, sweet boy who just needs the right guidance to thrive.Otto is full of energy and will need plenty of physical and mental enrichment to keep him feeling his best. He’s experiencing some kennel stress, but outside the kennel he’s all smiles, soft eyes, and playful puppy charm. He did have a couple of B’s on his food and toy assessment, so using a structured toy/food protocol is recommended. He eats fast and may guard high-value items, so being proactive will help him succeed. He’s young and very trainable.Otto did great in his dog-to-dog test with Krueger and has played appropriately with him in the past. He would enjoy living with another dog that matches his fun, energetic play style.Otto’s Ideal Home:Kids 10 and upA 6-foot fence recommended for safe exerciseAn active, engaged family ready to continue his trainingA dog friend with similar energy is a bonus!Otto has so much potential and so much love to give. With structure, guidance, and plenty of activity, he will blossom into an incredible companion.

Story
Neeko 3-Year-Old Labrador/Australian Cattle Dog MixNeeko came back to the shelter after the heartbreaking loss of his owners. While he was very shut down in the shelter, he is truly blossoming in foster care!Neeko is a smart, loyal boy who loves being near his people. He comes when called, walks right by your side, and is already learning good manners with doors. He sleeps quietly through the night, adjusts well when his foster family comes and goes, and takes treats very gently.Though bright daylight can make him a little anxious, evenings bring out his playful side with happy zoomies in the yard. He adores having his back and legs rubbed and already sits nicely for treats.Neeko is as sweet as they come—gentle, affectionate, and ready to keep building his confidence. He’s looking for a patient, loving home where he can continue to shine.
