Story
Becca is a joyful, affectionate dog who absolutely adores her people. She's one of the best companions I've ever had. She is loyal, happy, and full of love. Her tail is always wagging, and she brings a smile to everyone she meets. She walks well on a leash when she knows you're in charge, but she can be a bit strong-willed if given the chance to lead. With a confident handler, she's a dream to walk. Due to a past incident where she was attacked by a small dog, Becca does not do well with small animals and would thrive in a home where she's the only pet. Although her stress response can probably be trained out of her with some patients. 💔 Why I am Rehoming Her It breaks my heart to say goodbye, but Becca needs more space than I can provide. She's not adjusting well to our small home and truly deserves a yard where she can run and play freely. This decision is made out of love and the desire to give her the life she deserves.

Story
Ollie is a loving, playful, cuddle bug of a best friend. He’s an 8 year old pit/lab mix that has been in the care of his owner for 5 years. Ollie is good with cats and other dogs. Ollie is overall in good health! 2 years ago Ollie tore both rear ACLs but had TPLO surgery followed by 6 months of hydrotherapy physic therapy. He can do anything and everything a normal dog can. Ollie loves to be your best friend. He will often tag along as you roam around the house with a toy in his mouth and a wagging tail, just happy to be a part of your life.

Story
Meet Sara — Courtesy PostSara is a 74 lb mixed-breed dog who is ready for a fresh start in the right environment. She is spayed, fully vaccinated, and heartworm negative. Sara knows basic commands, is house trained and will go in a crate. Sara has been non reactive to cats. Sara has gone home with volunteers, attended off-site events, participated in meet-and-greets, and spent time with various new faces — all without incident. She has shown she can be a loving, affectionate and engaging companion.Sara does have instances of resource guarding behaviors, and this is something her future adopter must be prepared to manage and continue working on. A professional trainer has worked with and evaluated Sara and determined that while this behavior is trainable and manageable, it is not something that can be adequately addressed in a shelter setting but should not hinder her being adopted.Sara is currently thriving in a foster home, where she has undergone through training and continues to work on her behavior with structure, consistency, and guidance. She is making progress, but she will need an adopter who understands resource guarding and is committed to ongoing management and training. She walks well on a leash, however a fenced yard would be ideal. What Sara Needs to Succeed• Adult-only home• Calm, structured environment• No other pets at this time so her training can remain the focus (although she is NOT dog reactive, she just needs to focus on her own needs at this time)• Commitment to continued behavioral work and clear boundariesSara is a staff and volunteer favorite. She is affectionate, intelligent, and capable — she simply needs the right match and continued support.Sara has so much potential and deserves a home that will give her the chance she needs to truly shine! If you are interested in adopting Sara, please complete an adoption application, and we will reach out to you right away to schedule an appointment. ** Note, Sara is in a foster home, she is not currently housed at MCAC ** Sara`s adoption fee is SPONSORED!

Story
Meet Delphine, a beautiful 2-year-old Dachshund with a gentle soul and a sweet, quiet nature. Delphine would do best in a low-energy home, as she can be a bit timid and prefers calm, predictable environments where she can feel safe and secure. She’s not the type to demand constant attention, but instead offers soft affection once she builds trust, making her an especially rewarding companion for someone who appreciates a more relaxed and sensitive dog.Delphine enjoys peaceful moments, cozy spaces, and unhurried routines, and she blossoms when given patience and reassurance. She would thrive with an adopter who understands that confidence takes time and is willing to let her open up at her own pace. With kindness, consistency, and a loving home, Delphine has the potential to become a deeply loyal and devoted companion. If you’re looking for a calm, loving presence to share quiet days and warm cuddles, Delphine may be the perfect match for you.If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm.My adoption fee is $350

Story
Loufee is a striking Australian Cattle Dog–Collie mix who combines intelligence, gentleness, and charm in one wonderful package. At approximately one and a half years old, he’s at the perfect age—past the puppy chaos but still young, curious, and ready to learn. Loufee has a calm, sweet nature and truly enjoys being close to his people, soaking up affection whenever it’s offered. This talented young gentleman already has a great foundation of training. He proudly knows sit, down, and both paws, and he loves showing off his skills, especially when praised. His eagerness to learn makes training a rewarding experience, and with continued positive reinforcement, Loufee has the potential to excel even further. Mental stimulation is essential for him, and activities like training games, puzzle toys, and structured routines will help keep his sharp mind engaged. As a mix of two intelligent working breeds, Loufee thrives when he has a purpose and guidance. He would do best in a home that understands the needs of herding breeds and is prepared to provide consistency, enrichment, and leadership. For this reason, Loufee is highly recommended for adopters who have prior experience with Australian Cattle Dogs, Collies, or similar breeds, ensuring he’s set up for long-term success.Despite his working-dog roots, Loufee is a gentle soul who balances his energy with affection and attentiveness. He bonds deeply with his people and is happiest when included as part of the family. With the right environment, continued training, and plenty of love, Loufee will grow into an incredibly loyal and devoted companion. If you’re an experienced dog owner looking for a smart, affectionate, and trainable young dog, Loufee could be the perfect addition to your home.If you are interested in adopting me or another homeless pet at Macomb County Animal Control, walk-in adoption hours are Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm.My adoption fee is $200

Story
Meet Hooch—a tan and white pit bull mix, approximately 3 years old, who is ready to step into his starring role as your new best friend. Hooch came to animal control as a dropped-off stray, but despite his unknown past, he has quickly captured the hearts of everyone he meets with his affectionate, gentle, and joyful personality.Hooch is a truly loving boy who is friendly with both people and other dogs. He greets the world with a wagging tail and an open heart, always eager to make new friends and soak up attention. His sweet nature and easygoing attitude make him a delight to be around, whether he’s cuddling with his humans or enjoying time with canine companions. This handsome guy already knows how to sit and shake, and he’s craving more enrichment, training, and structure in his future home. Hooch is eager to learn and would thrive with continued positive training that helps build his confidence and strengthens his bond with his family.Hooch is available as a foster-to-adopt until after his neuter appointment, with his adoption generously sponsored by Macomb County Animal Control. If you have other dogs at home, a dog-to-dog meet and greet will be required to ensure everyone is a good fit. If there are cats in the home, slow and supervised introductions are recommended, as his history with cats is unknown. He is fully up to date on all vaccines and preventative care and is now searching for his forever home—a place where he can finally settle in, feel safe, and be surrounded by love. Hooch is ready for a lifetime of comfort, companionship, and devotion, and he can’t wait to share it with a family of his own.
