Meet Chowder, a sweet, affectionate young pup with a big heart, a curious mind, and SO much love to give!
Chowder is the kind of dog who wants to be wherever his people are. He’s a cuddler who loves snuggling on the couch or in bed, soaking up affection, and making his humans feel loved. He’s also an adventurous and intelliegent boy who enjoys exploring the neighborhood, going for walks and runs, playing with toys, and learning new things.
This smart boy is still figuring out how to navigate the world, and he’s making progress every day! He can be a little unsure of loud noises, like cars and trucks, but his confidence grows as he gains experience. He’s eager to learn and would thrive with a family who enjoys working with a young dog and helping him reach his full potential.
Like many adolescent pups, Chowder is still learning his manners. He can get excited and express his affection by jumping or mouthing, so he’ll benefit from consistent, positive training to help him learn appropriate ways to interact with people. He can also pull toward critters on walks, so a confident handler comfortable managing a strong, athletic dog is important.
Chowder has so much potential, and watching his sweet personality shine as he grows in confidence is one of the best parts of getting to know him!

Chowder is looking for a loving, patient home that can offer the right balance of adventure, training, companionship, and downtime.
His ideal family will:
Love an active lifestyle. Walks, runs when age-appropriate, outdoor adventures, and interactive play will help keep his body and mind engaged.
Willing to train and work with him. Chowder is intelligent and still learning his manners. Positive, consistent training will help him become the best version of himself.
Be home frequently or have a flexible schedule. Chowder is very people-oriented and can become anxious when left alone. He needs a family prepared to work gradually on alone-time and crate training rather than expecting him to immediately tolerate long workdays by himself.
Have a secure, fenced yard. Because Chowder is athletic, curious, and interested in chasing critters, a secure fence of 6 feet or higher is preferred. His prey drive and ability to remain safely contained should be considered when assessing any home.
Give him time to build confidence. He can be unsure of loud noises and unfamiliar situations, so patient encouragement and positive experiences will help him continue to blossom.
Chowder would enjoy having a canine companion! He would do best with a calm, confident dog who can help model appropriate behavior, provided they are introduced carefully and prove to be a good match. A resident dog is not a requirement, though.
Most importantly, Chowder needs a committed family who understands that raising a young dog takes time, patience, and consistency—and who will celebrate all the little milestones along the way. In return, you’ll have an affectionate companion who wants to share life’s adventures and then curl up beside you when the day is done.

Energy Level: Medium to high
Good with Dogs: Potentially! He has enjoyed interacting and playing with other dogs, but he is still learning appropriate play skills and can show herding-type behaviors. He has occasionally shown signs of guarding treats, so careful management around food and treats, positive training, and thoughtful dog introductions are important.
Good with Kids: Unknown; requires an appropriate introduction and assessment.
Good with Cats: Unknown. Given his interest in chasing critters, a home with cats would require careful assessment.
Leash Skills: Still learning. He can walk nicely but may pull strongly when he spots wildlife or other critters. A confident handler and continued leash training are important.
Potty Training: Making progress! He does best with a consistent routine and may need time to adjust to a new home.
Crate Training: A work in progress. He needs patient, positive training and gradual practice. He may struggle with confinement and being left alone, so his new family should be prepared to work through these challenges.

Chowder is neutered and microchipped! He is also recovering from a skin infection that has been evaluated and cleared by his veterinarian. His skin continues to heal, and his fur is growing back. He still experiences some itching as he recovers.
