Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Oh, sweet Glenda! She came to us from the city pound on July 17th and was a matted mess. We realized pretty quickly that she's a senior dog (a feisty one at that). She appears to be a shih tzu mix, but she could be mixed with other breeds, like Pekingese, poodle, and pug. She has had a full work-up at our vet, including being shaved under anesthesia due to the extreme matting, and was found to have been previously spayed. She was determined to be 12 to 14 years old, and she was also vaccinated, microchipped, and received a much-needed dental cleaning. Because of her age, we are waiving her adoption fee with an approved application. Glenda might be considered old, but she is still pretty peppy and has a fantastic personality. She's looking for a somewhat quiet retirement home in which she can just hang out with someone. She does have a very sensitive throat so she needs a harness for walks. She has done well with all the people she has met and we think she'd do fine with other smaller dogs who aren't too crazy energetic. She should be fine with cats, too. Don't write her off. She still has love and time to give to someone! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.August 8, 2026, 8:43 pm

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Emmett arrived from the city pound on 7/12/2025, making him another long-term resident. He was taken to the pound after being found tied to a table at a local park. He is approximately 3 years old and his genetic makeup is truly a mystery. There could be hound, shepherd, lab, or even herding breeds. Confusing us even more about his breed mix, he also has prominent double dewclaws on his hind feet. He has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped, and his fee is $150. Emmett is a bit unsure of himself and can be quite shy at first, so he will need plenty of time and patience. He has shown that he has the potential to be a loving, goofy dog. He will need regular exercise and basic training in all areas. However, we think he has the potential to be a fun companion. He does appear to be okay with other dogs. We don't know about cats at all and we're thinking an adult only home would be best. NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Rocky arrived at MCHS in September 2025 from the city pound after fulfilling the legal stray hold. We did know that his name was Rocky and that his owners were unable to keep him, which is why he went to the pound. He is an approximately 2 year old pit bull mix, maybe with lab. He's a little shy at first but warms up quickly and is loving and playful. He has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped and his fee is $150.  Rocky is a young dog who has had a little basic training. He needs a home that can provide him with the exercise he requires. He did live with kids in his previous home. We do think he could do okay with a female dog with proper intros. We have no way of knowing about cats. He really is a honey! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Olive came to MCHS on July 12 with her four littermates after they were being fostered by another rescue and needed a new place to go. These pups were born on April 27th and their mother appeared to be a pit bull type dog, around 60 pounds. We don't know who fathered them. Olive is happy and healthy and has the classic puppy energy. She has been vet checked, microchipped, and received all of her age appropriate vaccinations, including her rabies shot, but is not quite old enough to be spayed. The surgery will be coordinated with her adopter once she is older. The spay is required by us and, along with the rest of her vetting, is covered under her $150 adoption fee. Because she is a puppy, Olive will need training in all areas. She's looking for a home in which she won't be left alone for long hours. She should do well with kids and male dogs and is young enough to learn to interact properly with cats. We are guessing she will be a medium-sized to large dog at maturity. She's a typical puppy, full of mischief and very playful! Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Ellie came to us from the city pound on 8/2/2026. We did learn a little bit about her from her former owner, who no longer could handle her. Ellie is her real name and she is a "labradoodle" who seems to be around a year and few months old. She will be vet checked and spayed on August 11th. The vet staff will also work on cleaning her up a bit as she definitely needs to be groomed. Her fee is $150. Ellie will need definitely need basic training in all areas, but she's still an exuberant and friendly girl. She's young, very active, and incredibly bouncy, so she will require plenty of exercise. It would be helpful if her new home has experience with dogs similar to her because of their high grooming needs. A potential adopter should be prepared for the extra work and expense of this. Ellie should do well with other dogs that match her in size and energy level. Her enthusiasm might be too much for cats. She would do better with kids over 8 because she is so energetic and needs training. She has a lot of potential! NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Quest was surrendered to the shelter on 5/9/2025 due to rental restrictions. He is 5 years old and was a very loved dog who had lived in his home his whole life. His owners were forced to relocate and couldn't find an affordable place that would accept dogs like him. Quest is a mix of boxer, Doberman, and pit bull, and he is big and strong. He has been fully vetted and microchipped. His fee of $150 is fully sponsored. Quest did live with his canine sibling in his home and was fine. They grew up together. We do think that he'd be okay with a mellow female dog of similar size. No smaller animals. He would do best in an adult only home. Teens are okay.  Shelter life has been hard on our Quest and he has lost a significant amount of weight. We've had him completely vet checked and this weight loss is due to the stress of the shelter environment. He would make a very loving and loyal companion. He needs a home!
