Story
Sammy is an amazing and resilient 3-year-old Golden Retriever. He is a very loving Golden to those who know and love him. Sammy is currently enrolled in an extended board-and-train program designed to help de-escalate reactivity with dogs, address home barriers, and manage interactions with strangers. He has really done well after 6 months, building confidence and reducing his reactivity to men and dogs. Sammy now has a pack of five doggie friends he plays with regularly. We have weaned him off the Reconcile, and his Golden personality is really beginning to shine through. Sammy's extensive training is really showing what Sammy's potential can be when loved and cared for daily. He will need an experienced owner who can provide consistent reinforcement and meet his needs. If you are interested, we can coordinate a call with his trainer to learn more. Sammy is being fostered in San Jose.

Story
Meet Elliot, an adventurous and playful pup looking for an active home where he can learn, play, and grow! Personality and TemperamentElliot is bold, curious, and full of personality. He’s always alert to what’s happening around him—especially if there’s a squirrel or bird nearby. He enjoys being near his people and is learning to relax more during downtime. Elliot loves praise, is very food-motivated, and responds well to consistent training. Elliot is crate-trained and settles well when left alone Exercise and Activity RequirementsElliot is an energetic, athletic dog who thrives on daily activity. He enjoys a 2-mile walk each morning, plenty of yard play, and short bursts of high-energy fun like wrestling and chasing the flirt pole. He also loves using his nose for scent games and tracking. Elliot does best with both physical and mental enrichment and would make a great companion for an active person or family who enjoys outdoor adventures. Other Dogs and AnimalsElliot has been making good progress with his social skills around other dogs. He’s generally neutral after the initial excitement and settles quickly once given space. In tighter situations, he may give a small warning to communicate his boundaries. Elliot could live with a well-matched, respectful dog, but due to his high prey drive, a home without small animals would be best. Training Elliot has been working on his basic cues like sit and down and even picked up a few tricks such as spin. He recently tried bikejoring and did great—showing how much he enjoys having a job and staying active. The Ideal Home for ElliotElliot would do best with an active adopter who enjoys keeping their dog physically and mentally engaged. He’d be a great fit for someone experienced with energetic breeds and committed to positive training. He’ll benefit from an adopter who can help him continue building confidence around other dogs. A home without small animals is best. Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Elliot's been up to, check out his posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. Story
Meet Libby! Libby is a sweet, loving 4-year-old girl who’s ready to find her forever family. She has plenty of the wonderful traits people love in a German Shorthaired Pointer, along with her own unique personality that makes her extra special. Exercise & Activity Libby is an active dog who gets daily exercise and thrives when she’s outdoors. She currently enjoys a 3-mile walk through steep hills every day, plus a weekly free run on a 10-acre ranch where she can stretch her legs until she’s completely tuckered out. She’ll need an adopter who can give her consistent exercise and space to enjoy her GSP energy. Leash Manners On leash, Libby has made great progress. With a gentle lead, she walks nicely and doesn’t pull as much as she used to. She’s learning to manage her excitement around wildlife—she’s calmer with deer and turkeys now, though squirrels still get her attention! Personality & Temperament Libby greets everyone with a happy tail wag that moves her whole body. She’s relaxed and gentle with people of all ages, from babies to older adults. She doesn’t jump up or get rowdy, making her a wonderful companion for families or households with children. Other Dogs & Animals Libby takes some time to warm up to other dogs. At first, she can be defensive – once she feels safe, she settles down and generally ignores them. With patience and continued socialization, she’ll learn that not every dog is a threat. She has also improved around livestock—while goats used to get her barking and worked up, she now passes them with little reaction. Home Alone & Training Libby is calm and well-behaved when left alone. She goes to her bed and naps until her people come back. She’s crate-trained, housetrained, and continues to make steady progress with her manners. That said, Libby will benefit from ongoing training, especially with off-leash reliability and socialization around other dogs. She’s smart and eager to please, so with consistency, she’ll continue to grow into an even more well-rounded companion. The Ideal Home for Libby Libby will do best in an active home that can provide her with daily exercise and opportunities to explore. She’d love a family who enjoys hiking, walking, or spending time outdoors. A home where she’s the only dog—or with patient adopters committed to her continued dog socialization—would suit her best. In return, you’ll get a loving, gentle, and loyal companion who’s happiest by your side. If you’re ready for tail wags, outdoor adventures, and a devoted new friend, Libby may be the perfect match for you! Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Libby's been up to, check out her posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs. At home, he’s a champion cuddler who thinks laps and recliners are the best spots in the house. With his playful energy and love of outdoor fun, Gabriel would thrive with an active person or family who enjoys hiking, running, dog parks, or any adventure where he can join in. Story
Meet Nova – your on-the-go bestie with a rocket-fuel zest for life! If you’ve been looking for a high-octane partner in crime, Nova is your girl. This happy, adorable, wickedly smart youngster is built for fun, movement, and big days outdoors. She’s spirited, willful in a charming way, and absolutely ready to learn whatever you want to teach her—she just needs someone who can channel all that fabulous energy. What Nova brings to the table: Adventure-ready: Rain? Mud? Long walks? Fast zoomies? She’s in. Brilliant: She learns fast—she figured out an “auto sit” before exiting her crate all on her own. Playful: Loves squeaky toys, running full tilt, and engaging with other dogs (she’s still learning when they need a break). Engaging personality: Nova does funny little jaw-snaps when she’s thinking things through, as if she has opinions about your training notes. Sweet + people-loving: She adores attention and enthusiastically greets new humans. What she’s working on: Nova is a classic “sport model” dog—without enough exercise and brain work, she can get a little neurotic and inventive with her energy outlets. She’ll thrive with a person who genuinely enjoys training and activity. House manners: Almost fully house-trained. She will hop on anything (yes, including a TV) and once tried to go through a screen door. She’s improving daily with structure. Leash skills: Currently a pogo stick with opinions. She’s strong, excited, and still learning to keep four feet on the ground while you clip her harness. Crate training: Getting to 100%—sleeps through the night and settles after about 10 minutes of initial protest. Chewing: She’s fast. Harnesses, leashes, bully sticks—you name it. Redirecting and management are key. Exercise Needs: Nova currently gets walks, yard time, dog play, and brain games—but she could easily handle MORE. She’s happiest when she’s moving, exploring, and being challenged. Dog Interactions: She plays hard and doesn’t always recognize when other dogs are over it. With polite dogs or structured introductions, she does great. She’ll need guidance to develop better doggy social skills. Who Nova Is Looking For: Someone active, patient, and ready to invest in training. A person who thinks a high-energy, super-smart dog sounds fun—not overwhelming. Someone who laughs more than they sigh, and who knows that a little chaos now can become a truly amazing companion with consistency and time. Nova is a spectacular dog in the making. She’s bright, athletic, affectionate, and full of life. With guidance and the right outlet for her energy, she’s going to be absolutely fabulous. If you’re ready for a fun, spirited, endlessly entertaining sidekick, Nova can’t wait to meet you   Our adoption process begins with our adoption questionnaire: https://norcalgsprescue.org/adoption-questionnaire/ (Please note that we adopt primarily within Northern California and our minimum age for kids is 6) If you'd like to see what Nova's been up to, check out his/her posting in the Available Foster Dogs section: https://norcalgsprescue.org/available-dogs/. That's where you'll find all the latest info about all of our available dogs.
