Story

Meet Ekolu, our resilient, affectionate 6-year-old tripod. We adopted him from the Kauai Humane Society in 2020 after he was rescued as a puppy with a severe leg injury that required amputation. Despite his difficult start, he has grown into a loving, goofy, loyal companion who adores adults, cuddling, walks, and being close to his people. He weighs about 35 pounds and has recently developed mild arthritis related to life on three legs. As Ekolu matured, he developed reactivity that progressed to aggression toward other dogs. After an incident involving our infant daughter (no contact was made), we made the heartbreaking decision that he can no longer safely live with children. Ekolu is looking for a quiet, adult-only home with no other pets and an experienced adopter. He is deeply loved and has so much love to give the right family.

Meet Azalea! She's recently landed a wonderful foster home and here's what they have to say about her: Azalea is a sweet, cuddly girl who is curious, affectionate, and highly food-motivated. This 47-pound goofball is about a year old and is doing wonderfully with her training. She warms up quickly and gets along great with both dogs and people. A medium-energy girlie, she loves a good play session followed by a long nap. You’ll often find Azalea falling asleep while still sitting up, eventually melting into a big, snoring puddle — preferably snuggled right next to a human or dog friend. Azalea does beautifully in her crate, sleeping all night without a peep and happily hanging out there during the day when she needs a break. She’s quiet and rarely barks, only doing so occasionally when her foster sister provokes her. Even the busy noises of the city don't phase her when she’s inside. Her beautiful, expressive eyes and velvety coat seal the deal for this absolute sweetheart. She's highly food motivated and has been picking up new commands quickly. She can be a bit mouthy and still has puppy behaviors so we think she'd do better with kids 10+. That said, she redirects onto toys well and is learning boundaries quickly. This 75-pound bundle of joy is a goofy, affectionate sweetheart who absolutely adores people. Cookie loves to snuggle and thrives on attention. While she can be a bit selective with other dogs—especially on leash—she does well with slow, proper introductions. Cookie is smart, knows a variety of commands, is fully house-trained, and highly food motivated (which makes training a breeze!). Because of her size and energy, she’d do best in a home without small, young children, though dog-savvy kids aged 10 and up would be just fine. Cookie is full of life and ready to join you on all your adventures!
