Story
Meet Petunia-Grace, also known affectionately as Petunia, Poots, Tuni, and Gracie! This sweet girl has had a tumultuous life. She has been in and out of the shelter nearly her entire life at no fault of her own. She found herself back at the shelter once again when her owner unexpectantly passed away last year. This sweet and affectionate cutie-patootie knows there's someone out there for her! During her time here, Petunia has formed strong bonds with several volunteers and staff members, but we want so badly for her to find her forever person. She is slow to warm up to people -- she is wary and untrusting of people at first, but can we blame her? Her true personality is the opposite of what she displays when she first meets people. When Petunia connects with someone, her loyalty and affection knows no bounds. She's a dedicated protector, always eager to be by her person's side, providing comforting cuddles, and readily offering her belly for those cherished tummy scratches. Once trust is established, she becomes an incredibly loyal and loving companion. Petunia would thrive in a calm or quiet environment without other pets, where she can shower her chosen person with unconditional love and devotion. This little girl is as sweet as pie and even though she's a 9 year old couch potato, she has the most impressive puppy dog eyes. She needs someone who will dedicate the time to build and teach her trust. If you believe in her, she will believe in you. She will love you fiercely and unconditionally. Please give her a chance!

Story
Roo-Roo was abandoned by an apartment complex dumpster and joined us on November of 2022. She's been patiently waiting for a family but no one has come to meet her in months. She is affectionate, low-energy, and sweet. She takes time to warm up to new people, as she is understandably weary of strangers. Once she learns to trust you, she transforms into a happy goofball. This chunky gal has a playful nature that shines through when she performs play bows and wiggles her butt in the air, a surefire way to make anyone smile. When she gets REALLY excited she'll get mini-zoomies, but she's so chunky that her butt has a hard time keeping up with the rest of her body. Other than her random bursts of zoomies, she is quite low-energy and is often found sunbathing outside or sleeping in her bed. She knows sit and doesn't jump up on people. She keeps her area clean and never destroys her toys or makes a mess in her kennel. Though she hasn't formally been dog tested, we get the impression that she prefers males over females, or at least a submissive dog. We've caught her a couple of times play bowing to another dog between fences. At the shelter, Roo-Roo resource guards her food bowl, so we suggest feeding her separately. We also suggest no young children because of this reason. She may improve with a stable environment, but we always air on the side of safety. If you're ready to provide a loving home and companionship to this sweet girl, don't hesitate to visit us during our opening hours. Spend some quality time with Roo-Roo and you'll discover the warmth and charm she can bring to your life. All she needs is a chance to prove how wonderful life can be with her by your side.

Story
Willa joined us on August 24th. This stunning, beautiful, and chunky girl is a 3-year-old pit and Catahoula leopard mix. She is very affectionate and will even reciprocate your love by "petting" you back gently with her paw. She will lean on your legs affectionately for more love, too. She has good manners and knows sit, takes treats gently, and doesn't jump up on people. Willa is a happy girl and will wag her tail and her whole booty in excitement, even play bowing from time to time. She is a sweetheart and a cuddle bug! She is stressed in the kennel, but she's actually quite mellow and easy-going once she's in a quieter environment. Her demeanor overall is very laid-back. She is also loyal and will likely protect her family once she bonds with them. Willa prefers male dogs over female ones. In the shelter, she has a dominating personality, but on walks or in calm environments we've seen her act submissive and playful towards other dogs. She may even do well with a submissive, calm female dog. If you have dogs, we always recommend scheduling a meet and greet. She is good with children but is quite large, so she would probably do best with children over 12. Come down to our shelter during opening hours and meet this lovely lady!

Story
Meet Kayak, a sweet and loving 4-year old hound mix girl. Kayak was abandoned by the lake and found by a good Samaritan who was going kayaking, hence how she got her name. Kayak attached herself to her savior and she just couldn’t be leave behind. She absolutely loves to give great kisses and is learning not to pull when walking on a leash. Kayak likes other dogs. Kayak has been fixed, up-to-date on her shots and heartworm negative. If you would like to meet this wonderful girl, please email info@angelstotheanimals.org. Please give this sweet, kind girl a chance to love you forever!! If you are unable to adopt but still want to help Kayak, please consider fostering her. Her current foster home is unable to continue fostering her much longer!

Story
This is a COURTESY POST, so this dog is not at the Cornelius Animal Shelter. If you're interested in Keo, please contact his foster parent at 302-438-5766. Meet Keo! This big teddy bear is the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet. We believe Keo is around 3 or 4 years old. Our son started fostering him when his prior owner left the area and couldn’t take Keo with him, but he wasn’t an appropriate dog for a small apartment. When he first joined us, he was underweight and having gut issues. After much testing we discovered that Keo has a form of Addison's Disease, which is easily treated with a small dose of prednisone. His health is now excellent, and he’s at a good weight and is very happy! We’ve been fostering Keo for several months now, and he gets along very well with our 4 other dogs (both males and females). He loves to play, preferring to chase and be chased rather than retrieving balls or sticks. Keo loves taking walks and he likes to wade in the water down at the lake. He likes a comfy dog bed and will sleep on the floor right next to your bed if you let him. He doesn’t get on the furniture unless invited and is not a “counter surfer”. When Keo is excited, he vocalizes like a husky, but is otherwise a quiet dog – he doesn’t bark at other dogs or passers-by. As a larger black dog he looks imposing, but you can see the sweetness and focus in his beautiful blue eyes. Give Keo a chance, you won’t regret it! He deserves a great home.

Story
Meet Ace, a friendly and affectionate 1 year old, handsome Siberian Husky. Ace is playful but gentle and is very loyal. He still has puppy in him which makes him so much fun. He likes other dogs and kids but maybe better with older kids since he still does a bit the puppy nipping and jumping, which is common with young dogs and huskies. Ace is very smart and loves kisses. Ace weighs 55 lbs, is neutered, up-to-date on his vaccines and is heartworm negative. He is potty trained, crate trained and walks well on a leash with a harness. Please email info@angelstotheanimals.org to arrange a meet and greet or request an application. Please give this sweet boy a chance and he will love you forever!!
