Basic Information Husky Mix Male 9 years old 68 lbs. Golden / Hazel eyes Red-White-White fur coat Important Notes About River Possibly good with dogs, not with cats Possibly good with kids Normal energy level Special Training ***If adopted, River will come with a six session training package to successfully transition to home life.*** More Info Hi, my name is River. I'm an older husky mix, and I have been at Free Spirit for years now, patiently waiting for a new home. People often tell me I'm beautiful, with a unique look and color that stands out. I absolutely love going for car rides, where I'm very well-behaved, and I enjoy long hikes in the woods, taking in all the sights and smells. Playing fetch and exploring in my yard are also some of my favorite activities. I know all my commands and take treats nicely, making me a great companion for someone who appreciates a well-mannered dog. My dream is to have a fenced-in yard in a quiet, low-stress home where I can relax and feel safe. While I don't get along with cats, I might be a good friend for another dog, and I'd be happy to meet them to see if we could be pals! I like kids if they respect my boundaries and allow me to get to know them. However, if younger children tease me too much, I can get stressed. I'm generally very quiet and well-behaved, but I can have moments of anxiety when in a stressful situation. I need a family that understands this and will work with me to help me feel secure. If you give me a chance, I promise to be a loving companion in your home for years to come. I can't wait to find that special family who will appreciate all the love and joy I have to offer.

Basic Information Husky Mix Male 6 years old 53 lbs. Blue eyes Black-Gold-White fur coat Important Notes About Thor Good with dogs, possibly with cats Adult Only Home High energy level Special Training If adopted, Thor will come with a six session training package to successfully transition to home life. More Info Meet our Thor, a handsome husky mix who is eager to please. This beautiful blue-eyed boy is always ready for an adventure, whether it's a walk in the park or a car ride. Thor is sure to be by your side, ready to explore the world together. Thor is a loyal companion who just needs a bit of time and patience to ease into your heart. Once he feels comfortable, he'll happily melt into your lap. He can get wound up easily, so his ideal person would be someone who can offer patience and help boost his confidence. Thor is very treat-motivated and walks wonderfully on a leash. While he may need some fine-tuning, a little consistency and some chicken treats will go a long way. Thor came to us heartworm positive but has since made a tremendous recovery and is now eager to get out and explore the world! He does come with a few quirks. Thor can be a bit anxious and is sensitive around his collar. When he's in a heightened state, it's best to go slow with him. While he tolerates a solid brushing, he hates the dog dryer and considers vacuums his enemy. Thor can be selective about his canine companions, but he has shown to be a good buddy during our volunteer group walks. He has built strong bonds with his volunteer buddies, which gives us confidence that he will do the same with his forever person. Thor is looking for someone with patience and consistency to help him thrive. If you have the time and dedication to offer, Thor will reward you with loyalty and love.

Basic Information Other Female 2 years old 40 lbs. Brown eyes Black-White-White fur coat Important Notes About Morticia Possibly good with dogs and cats Good with kids over 10 years old High energy level Special Training If adopted, Morticia will come with a six session training package to successfully transition to home life. More Info Hello, my name is Morticia, and I am a young mixed breed looking for a new best friend! I am believed to be part cattle dog because of my medium size and exuberant personality. I was surrendered because I tried to herd people at my previous home, so I need someone who can give me an outlet for my energy. I am eager to please and happy to work—just give me something to do! While I have some issues getting along with children and small animals, I get along really well with other dogs. I thrive in an environment where I can engage in activities that challenge my mind and body, whether it's learning new tricks, playing fetch, or going on long walks. I have a strong desire to bond with my human companions and show my love through enthusiastic kisses. I may want you all to myself, but with some guidance, I can learn how to share my affection. If you’re looking for a devoted and energetic companion who will fill your days with joy, we’re a match made in heaven!

Story
Basic Information Husky Male 8 years old 60 lbs. Brown eyes Black-White-White fur coat Important Notes About Adonis Best as only dog Good with kids over 10 years old Normal energy level Special Training If adopted, Adonis will come with a six session training package to successfully transition to home life. More Info Adonis is a long haired husky that came to us from New Mexico. He is a very energetic, quiet, and sweet boy that loves long walks and running around in our yard. He plays fetch, knows all his commands, responds well to positive verbal and treat reinforcement, and is very affectionate with people he knows. Adonis needs his space at first with anything new be it a place, person, another dog, or things happening around him. Giving him the time and space to become comfortable with the person or situation helps and eventually he comes around and will investigate and warm up to you. Once he knows a person is ok to trust then the rest is easy, and you see his true personality come out when his barriers come down. When Adonis was exposed to a couple volunteers in the past without this time and space, he did bite them out of fear or being defensive. He has not bitten anyone, shown aggression, or possession issues to those that he has a relationship with and trusts. Adonis, we feel would be a good fit for a quiet home with a large fenced in yard for him to explore, or with an active owner that will take him for long walks. He has shown to be fine with kids 10 years of age or older from walks with a volunteer family that has spent time with him. We do feel that at this time it is best that he be the only dog in the home. The key with Adonis as mentioned is trust, as he has built that with volunteers we see more of the sweet, playful dog that we know he is. If someone is willing to provide him a low stress home and consistency in working with him, he will be a loyal companion for years to come. This dog requires an adopter to come out to the rescue three times in order to build up trust and form a bond with this dog before going home. Please talk to your adoption coordinator regarding the behaviors we have been working with this particular dog and the training techniques we have seen improvement with. We will also need the name and number of the trainer you plan on using before they will go home.

Blue eyes Gray-White-White fur coat Important Notes About Chase Possibly good with dogs, not with cats Adult Only Home Normal energy level Special Training If adopted, Chase will come with a six session training package to successfully transition to home life. More Info Hi, I am Chase. I’ve been living at my temporary home at Free Spirit for a couple of years now, but I am eagerly searching for my forever home. I am looking for a special person or family who can understand and work with me on my unique needs. I have a habit of keeping things I find, so I need someone who can help me learn the “trading up” and “leave it” cues. Shelter life has been more challenging for me than for most, so I will need a calm and patient environment where I can gradually adjust to my new surroundings. In my new home, I will thrive with space, a consistent routine, and plenty of reassurance. It's important that I am shown unconditional love and that my new family is willing to build trust with me over time. Loving me requires patience and a strong will to support me as I learn new skills to manage my guarding behavior. I absolutely love playing with my ball in the play yard. It's one of my favorite activities and really helps get out my energy and have fun. Despite my quirks, I am a very affectionate boy. I find great comfort in being by your side and will be a loyal companion. Come meet me and see for yourself the love and loyalty I can offer. Take a chance on me, and let's start our journey together. This dog requires an adopter to come out to the rescue three times in order to build up trust and form a bond with this dog before going home. Please talk to your adoption coordinator regarding the behaviors we have been working with this particular dog and the training techniques we have seen improvement with. Basic Information Husky Female 10 years old 67 lbs. Blue eyes White-White-White fur coat Important Notes About Luna Best as only dog Good with kids over 10 years old Normal energy level Special Training If adopted, Luna will come with a six session training package to successfully transition to home life. More Info If you are looking for an affectionate, lovable, and active senior husky, please consider volunteer-favorite Luna. Luna is a senior bundle of joy, full of life and eager to share her abundant love with a forever family. Despite her age, she remains energetic and enthusiastic, especially when it comes to her playtime in the yard with her volunteers. Luna's absolute favorite activity is going on walks, where she can explore and enjoy the outdoors. She is strong and active, making her an excellent companion for someone who loves outdoor activities and has a securely fenced yard for safe playtime. Luna's ideal adopter would be someone who not only appreciates her zest for life but also has the patience and dedication to help her transition into home life. Having spent her entire nine years in a kennel, and previously living outdoors before being rescued by FSSR, Luna will need guidance and training to adapt to a domestic environment. This includes helping her learn basic household manners and routines. A person with prior husky experience would be especially suited for Luna, as they would understand her specific breed needs and behaviors. Training Luna to feel comfortable and secure in her new home will require time, energy, and a lot of love. However, the effort will be immensely rewarding, resulting in a loyal and joyful companion. Additionally, Luna needs to be reassured that her food is safe. She has developed a tendency to guard her meals, likely due to past experiences. With consistent training and a nurturing approach, Luna can learn to trust that her food won't be taken away from her. By opening your heart and home to Luna, you will gain a devoted and loving friend who will bring joy and companionship to your life.
