Story
Meet Danni, the sweetest mid-sized adult velcro dog you could want in a companion. This darling gal is completely house trained and has perfect manners to show off. Danni knows "sit," "paw/shake," "lay," "come," and "stay." What a good girl!Danni is an energetic pup that loves to play. She would love nothing more than for you to throw her favorite toy playing fetch and she'll sort of bring it back. Danni also enjoys riding in the car and does really well on walks when wearing a harness. She would chase all of the squirrels if she could, but has reluctantly learned they're off limits. Danni would prefer to be the only dog in the home since being around other dogs will cause stress. When paths cross with other dogs, Danni is working on minding her own business but sometimes it's easier to cross the street to avoid any close encounters. Families with adults only and/or grown children would be great candidates for Danni's playful and athletic nature. Will you be the one to help Danni perfect her fetch game?Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Gizmo - aptly named after the cute, kind, most-lovable Gremlin - is a very sweet pup himself. Gizmo's previous owner surrendered him to SCCR, but that doesn't stop him from loving and craving attention from others (dogs, people and kids included). He is technically a young adult, but he definitely still has puppy behaviors and lots of energy! You may find him nibbling on your fingers, but he will happily take a rope toy, chew bone or Kong instead. This quick learner is house-trained and will whine to let you know when he needs to go outside. Gizmo would love a family with a fenced-in yard where he can frolic to his heart's content!. He loooves his yard time, sunbathing and watching all that nature has to offer. At the end of a long day, Gizmo sleeps nicely in his crate through the night. To expand beyond his knowledge of "sit", Gizmo would benefit from training classes so he can continue to please his new family and be a good puppy citizen. He's picky about his doggie friends, so he may be happiest as the only dog in his household. During the day, Gizmo loves to curl up in his crate or dog bed. But his favorite things in life are snuggling with his family, giving kisses, and eating. Are you looking for a dog with a goofy and lovable personality? If so, Gizmo is your guy.Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Meet Michie! Don't let this senior pup's looks deceive you, she's got quite a bit of pep in her step and her tail is in a constant state of wagging! Michie is a big fan of car rides and appreciates the change of scenery. She recently learned to walk without pulling her leash as she has been practicing ignoring some distractions...Squirrel! She may bark at other animals but only appropriately. Michie is very obedient. A simple reminder is all she needs to bring her focus back to you. Michie is a pro when it comes to being house & crate trained. She lets you know when she needs to do her business by waiting by the door to go outside, and when she needs time to herself, she will go in her crate. Michie loves a good chew toy, but rest assured, she will only chew on items designated for her. This sweet girl craves companionship, following faithfully behind her foster mom. She relishes cozy nights of cuddling and finds pure contentment in curling up on the couch. We think Michie would prefer being an only dog, but may benefit from having another low-energy dog in the family. Are you looking for a sweet senior dog to bring home? Michie is definitely your girl!Interested in adopting this dog? Story
When you hear the name "Capone," you may think of "Al, the old Chicago gangster," but when you meet this guy you will think he's more like a "Meatball' or maybe even a Meatloaf. (LOL) This hunk of a dog is goofy, playful, and energetic. But at the same time, a cuddly sweetheart that is sure to make your heart melt when you look into his big, brown, puppy dog eyes. This guy is sure to bring you laughs, lots of playing and then cuddling...almost sounds like the perfect dating profile. We wanted to share a little back story on this hard-working pup: Capone lived in another shelter for over a year before he came to SCCR. He's been living in a condo with his current foster and we realized Capone needs to run, play, and go out more. He's not one to be stuck inside all day. He would rather go on car rides, be running errands, frequenting the local Starbucks for a pup cup, or playing frisbee in a fenced yard. With all of our training and efforts, he no longer needs to be crated and is left out up to 6 hours at a time without issues. To avoid distractions on walks, Capone likes to bring a toy along with. Capone has SO many great qualities, here is his Report Card:- House Trained- Gives the best SLOBBERY kisses- Knows sit, paw and working on down (will do anything for treats)- Gently takes treats- Loves Toys (understatement, obsessed is a better term)- Enjoys Running (with toys)- Walks Well (with toys)- Can jump mid-air while running (with toys)- Enjoys training because there are treats and toys (there seems to be a pattern here)- Best Snuggler on the planet- Awarded "Best Bed Warmer" award 2023- Very treat motivated We think Capone's perfect home will have a fenced-in yard and a family with older kids that can play well with a larger dog. Capone wouldn't want to accidentally knock over someone smaller than he is, what a gentle giant! Capone needs someone to continue positive reinforcement training because it's been working so well for him. Capone would like to be the only dog for now...he's still working on meeting other dogs and figuring out his play style. Please, no cats for this big guy. Capone has come a very long way since he came to SCCR. He deserves the best home to continue being the best dog. We are SO proud of him and we hope you will be too! If you're ready to add this hunky Meatball to your family, please apply today!Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Mandy is a well-mannered senior lady who is looking for a comfy home to live out her golden years. She loves attention, getting hugs and kisses, and lounging in the sun. Mandy is incredibly sweet and is accepting of other pets in the home (sometimes even indifferent), but really enjoys her people and being part of the family. A calm home with adults who are often home is more her speed than a house with young children. While Mandy doesn't play or want to go for walks because of her arthritis, she is smart, goofy, curious, and fully housebroken, letting you know when she needs to go outside with a bark. Her favorite treats are hot dogs, apples, and soft bones to chew. She even navigates educational toys to find special treats. Mandy isn't crate trained, but she is well behaved if you need to leave her at home for a bit. She's got mobility issues and has a cough sometimes, but she pushes through any discomfort to stay active and involved in what's going on, both inside and outside. Mandy's your girl If you want a sweet dog to shower with love and attention, while getting a whole lot of sweetness and love in return. Interested in adopting this dog? Story
Lilian Tiffany Gish came to SCCR from our rescue partners in Indiana where she was found as an adult "backyard breeder" who birthed many puppies in her young life. Anyone that's ever known a puppy mill rescue, knows that each day is slightly more miraculous than the last. In the few months that Lillian has been part of our pack, she's learned to ride well in cars, enjoy the indoors, use the facilities outside, eat from a dish, run (for fun), and safely play until she is doggone tired. All things aside, Lillian is a fluff-ball of enthusiasm! Lilian loves her canine foster siblings and is still learning her way in the world. On cooler mornings, Lillian likes to accompany her foster's jogging routine and while she does well, you must always be on alert for squirrels that may cause her to pivot at a moment's notice! She needs someone with patience and agility when it comes to leash walking. Don't let her small size deceive you because Lillian can [and will] jump a 4-ft fence. Her ideal home should have a much taller fence.Lilian has been treated and cured of Lyme disease but still requires annual testing to ensure that there are no setbacks. She also has sensitive skin. To keep Lillian's skin free from infection and discomfort, she is on a weekly medicated bath regime which seems to be working for her during hot summer months.Lilian's ideal family would have a lot of activity for which she can be an active part. A canine companion to match her energy and aid in continued learning is just what Lillian would ask for. Lillian Tiffany Gish has progressed amazingly and there is so much more to come with all the love and patience you have to give. Interested in adopting this dog?
