Story
History: Our Out of the Cold Rescue efforts continue all winter long as we have recently welcomed another deserving group from our rural area partners in North Dakota.
A Note from the Foster: Introducing Leighton, a stunning young Shepherd mix.
She is a stoic soul — loyal, intelligent, and confident. She has a noble way about her, with a watchful eye and stealthy quick reflexes. Yet beneath that regal exterior is a playful pup: she delights in collecting leaves during her outdoor adventures, she un-stuffs her stuffies in record time, and she enjoys spirited wrestling matches with her human brother and sister. When she’s ready to rest, she melts into her people’s arms for long, contented belly rubs. Emphasis on the belly, which she has a lot of!
Wise beyond her weeks, Leighton is quickly learning the rhythms of good manners. She’s moving past puppy nibbles and piddles, showing every sign of growing into a calm, well-balanced companion. Smart and eager to please, she’ll thrive with an owner who can offer consistency, gentle guidance, and a touch of structure to match her loyal heart.
At times, this royal She can be a bit demanding. Despite her petite size and fur as soft as silk, she has a big girl bark that commands attention. She possesses the spirited confidence of a young monarch—bold, opinionated, and entirely aware of her own importance. Already matching her mother in size at just 12 weeks, it’s clear her lineage includes a noble giant — she may be soft, snuggly, and pocket-sized now, but she will likely grow into a queen-sized companion. With time, patience and a leader who can match her, she is well on her way to becoming a truly regal beagle.
💛 Leighton’s ideal home:
• A calm, loving household that values patience, structure, and affection — with lots of appropriate toys to gnaw on!
• A person or family who appreciates her intelligence and steady spirit (she’s learning to play gently with children and does well with the foster family's school-aged kiddos, but younger children would need more supervision)
• Someone ready to offer consistent training, kind leadership, and plenty of outdoor adventures (leaf collecting encouraged!)
• Experience with the shepherd breed would be helpful, but not required. Please read up on this breed which can be a wonderful, loyal family pet, but does require more consistent, long-term training and socialization. This sweet girl is well worth it!
If you’re looking for a puppy with regal grace, soulful eyes, and a heart as golden as her name, She is ready to take her place by your side — and reign lovingly over your home. ❤️
