Story
Introducing Copper! Affectionate Gentle Playful Initially Shy Personality: Copper is a sweet Dane who may be shy at first, but once he feels safe, his affectionate and silly nature begins to shine. He’s calm, kind, and loves being included in the daily routine. A creature of habit, he thrives in consistency and finds comfort in knowing what to expect. Socialness: Copper gets along well with everyone in his foster home. He’s submissive with other dogs and respectful of their space, often waiting for them to initiate interaction. He hasn’t been around cats, so slow and structured introductions will be needed. He responds well to slow, structured introductions with new people. Due to some resource guarding around toys (which his foster has diligently been working on), older children or those with experience around large dogs would be best. Likes & Dislikes: Loves zoomies and playing with other dogs Enjoys toys, snuggling, and car rides Dislikes raised voices and nail trims Training: Copper is crate trained, housebroken, and does not destroy bedding or toys. He can comfortably be left alone during a typical 8-hour workday. He knows the commands sit, come, down, shake, and leave it. He is leash trained, incredibly smart, eager to please, and responds very well to positive reinforcement. Health: Copper is in great health with no current concerns. He does seem to have a beef sensitivity, so he’s currently on chicken-based food and treats with success. Forever Home Wishlist: A fenced yard is preferred An apartment or apartment-style setting could be fine, as he's quiet and well-mannered A family committed to continuing his progress with toy/food guarding Older children or an adult-only home Another dog companion would be a plus, especially one who matches his gentle energy If you think Copper will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and have been approved by UMGDR, please contact Copper’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to express interest. 2. Story
Introducing Maxwell! Energetic Playful Affectionate Extraordinary Hi there! My name is Maxwell, and I’m a fun-loving, adventurous pup with a heart as big as my playful spirit. Life may look and sound a little different for me because of my vision and hearing impairments, but that doesn’t stop me from embracing every moment with curiosity and joy. I’m on the lookout for a special family who will love and support me just as I am—and I promise to give you all my love in return! When it comes to playtime, I’m all in! My favorite activities include: Chasing after balls and tugging on ropes. Chewing on deer antlers (yum!). Exploring the world on walks and taking in all the new smells. Zooming around the backyard with my famous burst of energy—it’s my happy dance! I absolutely adore being close to my people. Whether we’re playing together or just enjoying some quiet time, I thrive on companionship and affection. Being left alone isn’t my favorite, and I might bark to let you know I miss you, so I’d love a home where someone is around most of the time to keep me company. Navigating the world with limited sight and hearing can be a little tricky, but I’ve got it down! Once I’m familiar with my surroundings, I get around just fine. I may see light, dark, and motion, and I can hear some high-pitched noises, but I mostly rely on my other senses—and the love and guidance of my humans—to help me feel safe and confident. Here’s what I’d love in my forever home: A calm, patient family who understands my unique needs. A physical fence to keep me safe as I explore and play. Preferably a midsize to large yard so I have enough room for zoomies! A calm, submissive doggy sibling who can be my buddy and help me feel more secure. If there are kids, I’d do best with older ones (12+) who have a gentle and calm demeanor. An experienced owner, especially someone familiar with caring for dogs with hearing or vision impairments, would be a huge plus! A family who is home more often than not. A work-from-home position would be awesome! Otherwise, I would prefer if my family isn't gone for more than 6 hours at a time. I’ve had a bit of a rough start in life, bouncing between homes before finding my way to foster care. Now, I’m ready for the stability and love of a forever family who will cherish me for the amazing dog that I am. I may need a little extra understanding, but I promise the love and joy I’ll bring to your life will make it all worthwhile. Fun fact about me: My “zoomies” are a pure expression of my happiness, and they’ll never fail to bring a smile to your face. I’m a resilient, loving boy who’s ready to be your loyal companion. Are you the one I’ve been waiting for? Maxwell is ready to embark on a new journey, and he'd love to share it with you. Please complete one of the following steps to make Maxwell a part of your family. 1. If you have already completed the adoption or foster application process and have been approved by UMGDR, please contact Maxwell’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to express your interest. 2. Story
Introducing Daisy! Curious Playful Loving Sensitive Hi, I’m Daisy! I adore being near my person. I can be a little shy at first, but once I feel safe, I warm up quickly and become affectionate and eager to interact. I love exploring new places, going on adventures, and joining car rides so I can take in the world around me. When I’m really happy, I sometimes give a gentle “jumping hug” because I just can’t contain my excitement. I’m a deeply sweet girl who craves stability, reassurance, and a human who understands my sensitive nature. I enjoy meeting new people and usually do great with strangers after a gentle introduction. I do okay with children, but I’d likely do best with older kids who can respect my boundaries and my excitement levels. I need to be the only dog in my forever home—I’m indifferent to other dogs but won’t tolerate any aggression from them. I made friends with the cats in my foster home right away, and I even do well with chickens, though I can get a little too interested or sniff a bit intensely at times. Likes & Dislikes: I love playtime I enjoy being near my people and feeling included I like snuggling and being close to my humans I strongly prefer soft voices and gentle hands I dislike loud noises, sudden movements, and nail trims I know sit, down, and kennel. I’m crate-trained and will sleep in my crate at night or when left alone. I’m housebroken, but I may have accidents if I’m not crated. I’ll need a very consistent bathroom schedule and patience as I adjust. I do beg for food and can get overly enthusiastic when I’m happy, but I don’t dig and I rarely jump except when I’m bursting with joy. I walk better with a no-pull harness and do well with structured routines. I have some food allergies and am currently on a fish-based protein dog food. I also have a cherry eye that needs gentle daily cleaning. I’m sensitive when something hurts, and I may react with lip curling or snapping if I’m in pain—my forever home will need to be patient, gentle, and understanding. Forever Home Wishlist: A patient and gentle family where I can feel secure and understood A physical fence to help keep me safe while I explore Any yard size is fine, as long as I get regular outdoor time I must be the only dog in the home A family who will continue my training I love being with my people but can be left alone for 8+ hours if needed Fun Fact: I’ve fully claimed the basement couch in my foster home as my personal paradise—I’ll snooze there for hours, surrounded by toys, as long as I know my person is nearby. If you think Daisy will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1. Story
Introducing Brooklyn Outgoing Affectionate Playful Snuggly Personality: Brooklyn loves to snuggle and soak up attention. She thrives on being near her people and will happily curl up beside them or lean in for affection. While she can have a slightly stubborn streak, she has made wonderful progress with consistency and clear expectations. Brooklyn enjoys her walks and settles nicely into home life once she understands the routine. Socialness: Brooklyn does very well with adults. She may bark briefly when someone enters the home, but she settles quickly and truly enjoys people. She can be a bit unaware of personal space simply because she loves being close. It is noted that Brooklyn previously did well with children ages 5 and up. In her current foster home, she has only been around a teen and has done great. Because of her size and enthusiasm, supervision around younger children is recommended. Brooklyn previously lived with a medium-sized dog and cats. In her foster home, she lives with a calm male Great Dane and they get along very well. She tends to do best with calmer, non-dominant dogs. With smaller dogs or more assertive personalities, she can become overly excited and may not back down. With cats, Brooklyn has shown interest and will chase. She has put her mouth on the resident cat without causing harm, but she does bark and requires supervision and slow, structured introductions. A confident, dog-savvy cat would be best if placed in a feline home. Likes: Snuggling with her people Walks Playing with toys Dislikes: Being kenneled when she can see her people Occasionally gets spooked about going outside Training: Brooklyn is crate-trained and goes in easily when asked. She sleeps in her kennel at night and is crated when no one is home. She can be destructive if left loose and may get into cabinets or food packaging. She knows kennel, out, potty, and sit. When she begins barking, responding to her name typically redirects her. Continued reinforcement of boundaries and consistency will help with her stubborn moments. Health: Brooklyn is in good health. She does experience occasional urinary incontinence while asleep and may require waterproof bedding or pads in her kennel. It does not occur every night. She sometimes takes anti-anxiety medication as needed. Forever Home Wishlist: Calm, consistent household Family gone no more than 6 hours at a time Best with calm, non-dominant dogs Structured supervision if living with cats Supervision with children under 10 due to size and enthusiasm Not ideal for apartment living due to reactivity to outside sounds Fun Fact: Brooklyn is a world-class snuggler who believes personal space is optional—if there is a couch (or a lap), she plans to be on it. If you think Brooklyn will be a great addition to your family, please reach out to us by following one of the options below. 1.
