Story
WAITLIST ONLY AT THIS TIME 4/22/24 Introducing Maxwell! Energetic Playful Affectionate Extraordinary Appearance: Maxwell is a stunning Great Dane with an elegant white coat. His beauty goes beyond his appearance, as his unique qualities make him an exceptional companion. Activities and Play: Maxwell has an active and adventurous spirit. He enjoys playing with various toys, from balls to ropes and deer antlers. Going for walks and exploring the world are among his favorite pastimes. Maxwell's boundless curiosity and enthusiasm are truly contagious. In the backyard, Maxwell lets loose with his famous "zoomies," showcasing his joyful and playful nature. He relishes companionship and interaction with his people, cherishing every moment of love and attention. Need for Companionship: Maxwell has a strong preference for being in the company of his loved ones. He dislikes being left alone and may bark when separated from his family. A home where someone is present more often than not is ideal for his well-being. Challenges and Adaptability: Maxwell faces significant vision impairment, but his resilience shines through. While he may see only a fraction of what others do, he adapts remarkably well once he's familiar with his environment. He may perceive motion, lightness, darkness, or the presence of objects, allowing him to navigate and enjoy life. Maxwell also has a significant hearing impairment. He may hear certain high-pitched noises, but he relies on his visual senses and the reassurance of his loved ones. His world is shaped by the guidance and support of his human companions. Boundaries: Maxwell appreciates respect for his personal space. He may get nervous when objects, people, or other dogs move quickly, given his limited sight and hearing. A physical fence is required to ensure his safety and security. Ideal Home: Having a submissive, active dog in his forever home can greatly contribute to Maxwell's happiness and confidence. If his adoptive family includes children, we recommend ages 12 and older with a calm demeanor. A calm and consistent home life is essential to his success. Previous Challenges: Maxwell had been bounced from home to home for the first half of his life. He truly deserves a stable and loving forever home. A family with experience in caring for dogs with deafness and vision impairment would be a true blessing for him. Maxwell is not just a dog; he's a testament to adaptability and the joy of living life to the fullest despite challenges. If you have the heart and dedication to provide him with the love and care he needs, please reach out to us. Maxwell is ready to embark on a new journey, and he'd love to share it with you. Please complete one of the following two steps to make Maxwell a part of your family. 1. If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Maxwell’s Placement Coordinator at michelle@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2. Story
Introducing Bertha! Snuggly Loving Going for Walks Enthusiast Attention Lover  This mantle-coated Great Dane possesses a heart of gold and a strong spirit despite her partial vision impairment. This gentle giant is a master of the art of relaxation and adores the spotlight. With her gentle nudges, she'll have your heart wrapped around her paw in no time. One of her favorite pastimes is snuggling, and she's a pro at it. Another favorite activity is going on walks. Despite her vision impairment in one eye, she's eager to explore and experience the world alongside you. Her enthusiasm is contagious, making each walk an adventure to remember. Initially, Bertha disliked bath time, but her foster family worked consistently with her and now bath and grooming time is an excellent bonding experience! While we're uncertain of her reactions to cats, her foster family has noticed zero prey drive. Loud noises make her uneasy, so a calm and quiet environment is where she can fully relax. Due to this, a home with older or no children would be best. Bertha is a non-reactive dog and would do well with another dog in her forever home if it is submissive. Due to her partial vision impairment a physical fence and minimal steps are a requirement for her forever home. She has no medical/health issues but has gained recognition for snoring loudly. Bertha is a one-of-a-kind treasure, a master of snuggles, and an explorer of life's little joys. If you're ready to provide a loving home to Bertha, don't miss the opportunity to welcome this remarkable dog into your life by following the appropriate step below: If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Bertha’s Placement Coordinator at michelle@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about her. Story
Introducing Meeko! Outgoing Playful Loving Alert Appearance: Meeko is a true stunner! This handsome fawn-coated Great Dane has endless affection and an outgoing personality. Sweet Nature: Meeko is not just handsome; he's also incredibly sweet. He can be unsure of new people, but totally falls in love with them when given a chance to observe them first.  His warm and welcoming disposition to those he loves makes him an instant favorite. Training and Health: He's healthy, up to date on vaccines, neutered, housetrained, and kennel trained. His knowledge of basic commands, such as sit, down, come, and shake, showcases his willingness to learn and please. Areas of Work: Meeko is a vocal boy who barks at anything and everything. This is a habit he'll need some help with, but it's also a testament to his alertness. Due to his vocal nature, a home within city limits or in an apartment complex may not be the ideal fit for him. While he is sweet, Meeko can show a stubborn side. He will push boundaries if he doesn’t have a strong leader. Energy: Meeko has an abundance of energy and a thirst for adventure. He needs plenty of exercise and daily stimulation to keep him happy and healthy. Secure Yard: Meeko has made great strides in responding to recall commands. Even though he has made progress, he will still require a physical fence to ensure his safety while exploring and playing. A fence of at least 6 feet is preferred. Family Compatibility: While there are no children in his current foster home, Meeko has shown affection for kids in his previous home. If children are part of his adoptive family, they must have previous experience with big dogs, as his size and energy level may be a lot for younger or inexperienced kids. Meeko seeks out male companionship and will benefit from a positive male presence in his forever home. A strong and loving bond with a male figure will be meaningful to him. Other Dogs and Cats: Meeko enjoys the company of other dogs but requires slow, supervised introductions. It's recommended that there are no cats in the forever home until he has bonded with his new family and responds consistently to their guidance. Meeko is a bundle of love and energy ready to embrace the world with open arms. If you're an experienced Dane owner and have the time and dedication to help Meeko thrive, please reach out to us. Meeko is eager to find his forever home, where he can embark on endless adventures and share his heart with you. Please complete one of the following two steps to make Meeko a part of your family. 1. If you have already completed the application process and are an approved adopter with UMGDR, please contact Meeko’s Placement Coordinator at callie@thegreatdanerescue.com to learn more about him. 2.
