In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading the information you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Tootsie is an adorable, pint size (less than nine pounds) 6 year old Shih Tzu, ready to start the next chapter of her life. While she may be small, she has a lot of love to give! . Tootsie loves to follow her foster parents around and is always looking for a lap to sit on. She has a ton of kisses for anyone willing to give her the attention. She sleeps in her foster parents’ bed with her two foster siblings and is content to not leave the bed until morning when her mom takes her outside. Tootsie adapted quickly to her foster family, is used to a schedule of going out 4-5 times a day and is house trained. She gets along well with her two foster dog siblings. She is still learning how to walk on a leash and hasn’t quite gotten the hang of it, but with time and patience will become a pro. She especially likes to socialize while walking and she definitely prefers walking a couple of houses, stopping for a while, then walking a couple more houses. Tootsie has recently found the toy box and loves to take all of the toys out, although she hasn’t figured out how to put the toys away! Tootsie is ready for a permanent family that will provide her with lots of love and cuddles. The following are requirements for her new family: 1. Must have someone home most of the time so that Tootsie can be near them. A family that includes her in their daily activities is ideal. She does get a little anxious when left home alone, so it would be preferable if her family would either take her with them, have another dog that stays with her, or only be away for short periods of time. 2. Tootsie would do best in an adults only home but a family with children over the age of ten, who understand how to be gentle and respectful of small dogs, will be considered. 3. Agree to always use a harness and solid leash – never a collar or retractable leash. 4. Live within 30 minutes of Fridley, MN. 5. Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September of each year. Tootsie is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $370.00 plus $33.39 sales tax for a total of $403.39. To meet Tootsie, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also meet Tootsie and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month at the Southtown Petco in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Chico is an 11 pound, 8 year old male Shih Tzu Yorkie mix. He was given to our rescue because his owner moved to an assisted living place where no animals were allowed. Chico is a friendly little guy and likes to greet people and other dogs while out on walks. He will sometimes play fetch in the house, but only for a short while. But what he loves most is joining his foster dog sibling outside to chase the resident rabbits and squirrels around the yard. He will need a fenced yard because he can be a little escape artist. His foster parents use a whistle to call him back to the door, and he seems to respond well to this. Chico is house trained and does alert you at the back door when he wants to go outside for his bathroom break, although we suggest that he just be on a regular schedule of going out about every four hours. Chico needs exercise every day - he walks over a mile a day, chases the rabbits and squirrels in the backyard, he briefly plays indoors with his toys. Chico is friendly and comfortable with meeting new people, either on walks or in the home. He would do best in a home where someone is home most of the day. He has a bit of separation anxiety and his new family must understand how to help him feel more secure and overcome his anxiety. He enjoys riding in the car and it would be great if his new family will include him in their daily activities, wherever they go. He is okay with another small dog in the home who has similar energy and age. He sleeps in his bed in the bedroom at night, although he would probably love sleeping in bed with his new family. These are the requirements for Chico’s new home: 1. Someone who is home most of the day and will include Chico with them throughout the day. 2. An adults only home or a home with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated that they know how to engage in a gentle, respectful way with small dogs. 3. A home with another small dog in the home, or in a home as an only dog. 4. A fenced yard would be great, because Chico loves exploring freely. If a fenced yard is not available, the family must be able to take him on a long walk every day – at least over one mile, and provide additional play time for him. 5. Never use a retractable leash – doing so will violate the adoption contract. 6. Live within 30 miles of Inver Grove Heights, MN. 7. Hopefully attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue annual reunion held in September of each year. Chico is neutered, has had a dental, is current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total fee of $348.88. To meet Chico, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! If you have been searching for a tiny little boy to add to your family, Jasper may just be the boy for you! He is almost 8 years old, but most people think he is still a puppy! He is only 4.4 pounds and just a darling little sprite! He is calm, gentle, sweet and loves to just sit next to you or on top of you. Due to his small stature any large animal is terrifying to him. Jasper does fine with another smaller Shih Tzu, but does not want to interact initially. After 2 weeks in his foster home, he is just now warming up to the idea of lying near or next to another dog. Jasper had previously been used for breeding and is now learning - and enjoying - how to just be a pet, including walking on a leash outside. He loves to walk a little way and then stops to look around, and then starts up again. He can’t go too far before running out of steam, but he does like his short walks and loves being in the yard with his foster mom. He is a very curious fellow and can scamper at top speed when in the mood. But he also runs if he hears a loud noise, and could quickly get away. He will always need to be in a harness and on a leash with you. If he is kept on a strict potty schedule (every 3-4 hours), Jasper does just fine in the house. He does sleep all through the night very well, but is an early morning riser! Jasper has not learned to play with toys, so right now his favorite extracurricular activity is just being with you, held by you, and resting by you. In other words, YOU are his world! When you arrive home and come in the door he is so happy and will jump and bounce around to greet you! Jasper is scheduled for dental surgery on May 22nd and will be ready for adoption around June 1st. The dental surgery is unfortunately the result of breeding this Shih Tzu down to such a tiny size. All of the teeth a dog is supposed to have just do not fit in a mouth his size. Due to the overcrowding of teeth, his mouth has become diseased and infected and all of his teeth must be removed. HERE IS WHAT THE FOSTER HOME IS LOOKING FOR IN HIS NEW HOME: · An adults only home with very little activity, noise or commotion to scare or feel threatening to him. He responds best to a soft, quiet voice. · Someone home most of the time. If you are gone for an activity or work, you need to be able to come home within 3-4 hours. He does experience a bit of separation anxiety when left all alone and he will need to relieve himself every 3 to 4 hours. · Keep treats at a minimum, but feed his specific diet in 3 small meals a day to help him gain a little weight. · Live with 40 miles of Bloomington, MN so a personal home visit and a follow up visit can be easily done. · Commit to come to our Rescue Reunion held in September each year. Jasper is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total of $348.88. Story
Hi, my name is Jack! I came from Alabama. I sure do like Minnesota and the people here. I’m a bit shy and take a little time to warm up. I am a great boy, potty trained, and don’t mind being in the kennel. I like chew toys, don’t mind other dogs and cats. I could use another dog to live with that can show me some confidence. I have low energy and am generally quiet. I’ll want to be with you as much as possible. I’m going to be your buddy and with you all the time. Hope to see you soon!!Jack is heartworm positive and has completed his treatment. He is awaiting a negative test result which can take place 9 months after treatment, in June, per our vets recommendations. He is no longer needing to be on exercise restrictions. Jack will also need continued use of monthly heartworm preventives going forward. These medical needs will be the responsibility of the adopter.--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Please note that the majority of our dogs in rescue are from shelters where they have been found as strays or abandoned. Their breed description is based on our very best educated guess based on physical characteristics and their dispositions. If they came to our rescue as an owner surrender, the breed description will be listed as provided by the previous owner.Adoption Fee - $400To apply for this pup, please submit an Adoption Application at http://warriordogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application/

Story
My name is Oscar and I'm so happy you're checking out my bio!My foster mom calls me her gentle giant. I'm almost 70 lbs, but I like to fade into the background as much as possible. Even with my big paws, I'm stealthy and quiet, and my foster mom wonders how I turn up behind or beside her without her hearing me. I just love to be near her!I'm very quiet, and my foster mom hasn't heard a peep out of me. Just my heavy sighs and snoring! I would love a home that is quiet and calm, with a fenced-in back yard. When I get startled I tend to head the other way so a fence would keep me safe. I would also enjoy another pup as I need help learning to be more confident and courageous.I startle easily with new and sudden sounds or movements. I would love a patient person who can help me learn that the world is a caring and friendly place. I'm hesitant around men, and am working on being brave around them. And the energy new people and kids bring is a bit much, so I exit the space and find a safe spot until things calm down a bit. I love affection but don't know how to ask for it, so I just stand nearby and hope you notice me. I'm so fluffy and soft, and gentle, I'm just the best sidekick to cuddle.Do you have gentle hobbies at home, like reading, gardening, enjoying your backyard, or watching TV? I would be a great companion and would like to just lay on the couch or outside in the sun!I do really well sleeping in my crate, and would also do well sleeping on the couch or a bed. I walk well on a leash, and prefer walking in quieter areas. I am a champ riding in the car! I just lay down in the back seat until we get to our destination. And I know to do my business outside. If a gentle life is for you too, let's meet to live the easy-going life together!--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption.
