In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Gizmo is a wonderful little Shih Tzu and Maltese mix. He is 8 years old and weighs 11 pounds. He is learning how to overcome months of neglect and isolation in his former home and is slowly making improvements while receiving love and care. He came into rescue suffering from long standing ear infections as well as severe dental disease. He has received thorough veterinary care while in rescue, and his initial defensive behavior has now changed to that of a sweet, loving boy. He was just in so much physical pain that he didn’t want to be touched, especially near his head. Gizmo is house trained, and loves at last being able to roam freely in his foster home rather than being in a kennel for most of the day and night. He sleeps so sweetly with his foster mom at night, and during the day is quite the cuddler. He loves giving you kisses and showing affection. His foster mom is working on a simple solution for his food and toy guarding, which will resolve in time. Unfortunately, he does not like children so he must go into an adoptive without children. However, we have found that after getting to know an older child, he does become a bit more comfortable with them. So an occasional visiting child might be okay. Gizmo loves to be outside walking with you! He really needs lots of exercise, so walking 2-3 times a day is quite essential for good behavior and for bonding with you. Gizmo is a lovely little boy and longs for a permanent forever home. If you meet the following requirements, please consider applying for him: 1. A quiet, adults only home, without children, where someone is home much of the day. He truly enjoys being with his people. 2. A fenced yard, if possible, as he loves to run and chase. 3. A home without another dog or cat - he craves affection all to himself. 4. Be willing and physically able to take Gizmo on 2-3 long walks every day. He really enjoys the outdoors and especially walking. 5. A family who is understanding and patient who will continue working with him to overcome his trust issues around his food and toys. 6. A home within 30 miles of Eden Prairie, MN. 7. Attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each September. Gizmo is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total of $348.88. To meet Gizmo, please complete an adoption application using the website listed above. You can also meet Gizmo and other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota at the monthly Meet & Greet, held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month at Chuck & Don's, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., Bloomington, MN. Because of the Independence Day holiday, the July event will be held on July 11, with the regular first Saturday schedule resuming thereafter.

*Star’s adoption fee has been fully sponsored by a generous donor*Hello! My name is Star and I’m ready to light up your life! My life in a nutshell? Well, up until I came to Minnesota, I lived in Alabama with my five babies. But it wasn’t glamorous, we lived in the woods. I approached a home, led them to where we were living and they got us to safety. Now that all of my pups are adopted and in loving homes, I think that it’s my turn! I’m a quirky, gentle girl with a heart full of love. I guess you could say that I’m cautious, new things still make me a little nervous. But with a bit of patience and a lot of pets, I warm up pretty quickly. I like to be around my people, curling up in cozy spots and giving soft nose boops. Once I’m comfortable, my silly side will definitely come out! I’m a very loyal girl once I know that I’m safe with you. I can’t wait to find my forever home and live the best life that I can. I know that I’m someone’s perfect match, hopefully it’s you! Love, Star--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Please note that the majority of our dogs in rescue are from shelters where they have been found as strays or abandoned. Their breed description is based on our very best educated guess based on physical characteristics and their dispositions. If they came to our rescue as an owner surrender, the breed description will be listed as provided by the previous owner.Adoption Fee - $0To apply for this pup, please submit an Adoption Application at http://warriordogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application/

*Felicity’s adoption fee has been sponsored thanks to a generous donor*Oh, hi there! I'm so happy you found me. My name is Felicity. I am a playful, spunky and snuggly girl looking for my furever family. I've been so loved in foster homes since I was a puppy, but I know my family is out there!!I currently live in a condo with my foster mom and cat friends, but I have also lived in a house with a foster dad, mom, teenagers and other dogs with a fenced in yard. I have done well with the little kids I have met that are respectful of me. I take a little time to warm up, but not too long! Once I get to know you, I'm your best buddy. I am house trained and do well on leash or freely in the backyard. I am crate trained. I can sleep in my crate at night and when I'm home alone. I go in happily with a treat and love my cozy bed. I also love to sleep in bed with my foster mom though! I'm a great napper, super snuggly and love to give kisses! I'm just the right size too; not too big and not too small!I do bark at new things or in new situations, but I am a good listener and am corrected easily. I would do best with a patient and confident person who is experienced with dogs and is consistent with me! I am such a loving and special pup. My foster families have absolutely loved me and believe that the perfect family is out there looking for me. Is it you? X0XOXO,Felicity Felicity is a little fighter who has been diagnosed with autoimmune disease called Canine dermatomyositis (DMS) which is an inherited disease that causes inflammation of the skin, muscles, and blood vessels in dogs. She deserves to find her family just like every other dog up for adoption in rescue. If you feel you can provide her with all that she needs, a lifetime of love and care, snuggles and commitment, please make sure to fill out an adoption application. --------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Story
Dear Future Family,My name is Monroe!! If you’re looking for a gentle, loyal best friend, I just might be your guy. I’m a 65-pound sweetheart from Alabama with a soft heart and an even softer spot for snuggles and belly rubs.My favorite things in life are pretty simple: curling up on the couch with my humans, playing with toys, snuggling in bed, belly scratches in the morning, car rides, and hearing that I’m a “good boy.” I do great with other dogs, and even think cats are okay too, and more than anything, I love simply being with my people. Wherever you go, I’ll happily follow — my foster mom says I’m her shadow!I’m a calm, low-key kind of guy. I’m not looking to run marathons — I’d much rather spend the day snoozing nearby while you work, chewing on a toy on the couch, or keeping you company around the house. When my foster parents come home from work, it’s truly the best part of my day!!I’m fully house-trained and very well-behaved in the home. At night, I sleep nicely in my crate with no issues as long as I can see my humans nearby. But if you let me, I’d be very happy snuggling up in bed with you instead — that’s kind of my dream! One thing I’ve learned about myself is that I actually do much better left out when you’re away instead of being crated. Give me a comfy couch, turn on some cartoons, and I’ll happily nap the day away until you come home.I am shy and fearful with strangers, especially men, and I do best with slow, quiet introductions and patient people who understand that trust takes time for me. Right now, I’m learning that not all strangers are scary, that my humans always come back, and that men can be safe too. Once I feel secure, though, my sweet personality shines through beautifully. At the end of the day, I’m really just a loving boy who wants to feel safe, spend time with my people, and stay close to the ones I love. I’m easy to please — all I really want is kindness, patience, a cozy place to nap, and someone to love. Oh yeah, and some treats too!If you’re willing to go slow with me at first, I promise I’ll give you the most loyal companionship for life in return.Love,Monroe--------------------------------------------Monroe was heartworm positive and has completed his treatment. He received a preliminary negative result on a microfilaria test but is awaiting a negative test result to a heartworm test 9 months after treatment per our vets recommendations. He no longer needs to be on exercise restrictions. Monroe will need continued use of monthly heartworm prevention. These medical needs will be the responsibility of the adopter. All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Story
Hello – I’m Tami! You were likely drawn to my picture because I am gorgeous, but my personality in real life is sure to melt your heart.I am affectionate and sweet, and my whole face and body light up with joy when I see people. I am still pretty new to Minnesota and living in a home, but I am learning everything so fast! I have been so happy to make new friends with everyone I meet – dogs, cats, kids, adults, men, women – I’m gentle with everyone (except maybe the baby bunny I found outside and tried to play with). I love attention, and I’m learning that walks and trips to the park are a blast. I really love to play with my doggie foster siblings – and I make the humans laugh with my leaps and hops. I wish I could tell my whole story so you could understand why I have to fight the urge to skitter away when people try to grab me or put things over my head. I am grateful that my foster family has been very patient with me. I was found in Alabama as a stray young mama, trying to keep my puppies safe. I’m really just a puppy myself, and I have so much to learn! My foster family has very quickly fallen in love with me and would love to keep me, but they think there is a super special home for me. I am very smart and very sensitive, and my foster mom thinks my ideal home would be with someone who has experience with dogs like me and who can give me time, patience and heart to support me as I build confidence and trust. I would love to be with someone who understands my herding instincts (so they can keep my brain busy and don’t trip over me when I crouch at their feet!). My foster mom also says that I deserve someone who will be very devoted to me, as I will be a very devoted, special companion. The right dog friend would be nice to help me continue to learn that life is good. My foster mom says she’s pretty sure that I am meant to be somebody’s soul dog… is that somebody you?--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption.
