Story
In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Are you looking for a petite Shih Tzu that is adorable, charming and a little silly too? My name is Pearl. I will be 2 years old in June, weigh 6 pounds and have beautiful, soft and silky black hair. Everyone thinks I am cute as I always wag my tail and like to give kisses. When I first came to my foster home, I was not accustomed to a harness or leash. Now I love to put them on because it means I get to go outside! I love to go for walks in the neighborhood with my foster mom and her dog. I like to stop and watch the people and the bunnies and squirrels. Actually, I am learning to watch and NOT chase the bunnies and squirrels! Because I have not had a lot of exposure to people and things in the environment, I have a lot to learn. I adapt well though, if you give me time and you are patient! My foster mom is also happy that I am learning to go potty outside! If she forgets to take me outside I get right up in her face and kiss, kiss, kiss to let her know I need to get outside! Pearl is very sweet with a little tomboy thrown in! She is a bit shy at first, but as soon as she knows you, all is well and she is very happy. Pearl will need to continue to learn basic dog obedience and gain confidence, so she would really benefit from formal obedience/socialization training. Pearl does love to please and is a smart girl that learns quickly! If you are willing to give this little girl time and love, she will be your best friend forever! Pearl could be happy in a home with another small, playful dog or as an only dog. If there is not another companion dog in the family Pearl needs a “human” companion who will be with her much of the day. She needs a quiet, calm household with adults and possibly school aged children who are experienced and respectful of dogs. Pearl is a very special girl who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements that her foster mom expects for her new family: • Because Pearl is an active two year old and Shih Tzus can often live 14 plus years, she must be placed with an age appropriate family who can fully care for her for her entire life. Pearl would like an active family that is experienced with dogs and will continue to help her with training and socialization. This means time devoted to her training and learning other important doggy behaviors, such as leash walks outside, exposure to new, safe experiences, and lots of ear scratching and snuggles. Pearl would love to be included in as many family activities as possible. • Pearl can be in a home with another confident, small dog who will help her learn by being a role model and friend. However, she would also do well as an only dog as long as she has opportunities to learn to socialize with other dogs on walks or other family activities. A family that works from home would also be wonderful for Pearl. • Pearl is not fully trained for going potty outside. Her new family needs to understand this and must take her out every couple hours during the day. Pearl does sleep all night though, without having to go potty outside. She will definitely want to sleep in bed with her new family as she loves to cuddle! • Pearl’s new family should live within 40 miles of the south metro area. Pearl is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $470.00 plus $42.42 in sales tax for a total of $512.42. Her foster mom would like her new family to attend our Rescue Reunion held each year in September. To meet Pearl, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.

Peanut is an 11 month old, female Shih Tzu–Bichon mix with the sweetest big black eyes and a personality that’s impossible not to love. She’s the perfect mix of spunky and snuggly, always ready for playtime, but just as happy soaking up attention from her people. She has a soft fluffy cream colored coat. This adorable girl thrives on companionship. She absolutely loves people and gets along wonderfully with other dogs. Peanut’s playful side shines when she’s chasing around her favorite squeaky toys or bouncing around with her small dog friends. She’s currently learning how to walk on a leash and is really starting to enjoy her daily walk - especially all the sights and smells that come with them! Peanut already knows a few basic commands like “sit,” and she’s eager to keep learning (especially if treats are involved). She is almost potty trained and does very well when kept on a consistent routine, but she needs continuity, and her new family must continue with a consistent, frequent schedule to help cement her training. One thing to know about Peanut is that she cannot be in a kennel. She needs to have the freedom to relax and roam at home, but the good news is that she’s earned that trust. She doesn’t chew or get into things, and she is relaxed and well-behaved when left alone in the house. Peanut is truly a loving, joyful little companion who will bring warmth, fun, and plenty of cuddles into your life. If you’re looking for a loyal pup with a playful spirit and a big heart, Peanut may be for you. These are the requirements for Peanut’s new family: 1. Because Peanut is less than a year old and Shih Tzus can live to be 16+ years, applications will be accepted only from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the activity, care and support that Peanut will need for the rest of her life. 2. Be home most of the day. Peanut will require continued potty training, which requires frequent potty breaks outdoors. This requires patience, understanding and commitment to helping her become trained. Also, she thrives on the companionship of someone who will be with her almost all day. 3. Applications will be considered by families who have children over the age of ten who have experience in gently and appropriately interacting with small dogs. 4. Peanut would enjoy another in the home, of similar energy and interaction, otherwise she would be fine as an only dog if given play time, stimulation, and exercise to meet the needs of a young dog. 5. Peanut cannot be kenneled at any time, day or night. It would also be wonderful if her new family would allow her to sleep with them at night. 6. Live within 30 miles of Lakeville, MN. Her foster mom would like her adopters to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota reunion held each year in September. Peanut is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93 sales tax for a total of $$566.93. To meet Peanut, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph.

Coconut is an adorable, fluffy 9 pound, 6-month-old white Shih Tzu Maltese mix. This sweet little girl is full of sunshine—happy, playful, and always ready for fun! Coco is a true puppy at heart. She loves her toys, zooming around in a fenced yard, and playing with other small dogs. She’s affectionate, energetic and curious, so she would thrive in an active home with someone who enjoys daily playtime, walks, and exploration. She’s also very good with children and was gentle and receptive when she met them. Because she’s still a young puppy, Coconut will need an adopter committed to basic puppy training, potty training reinforcement, and gentle guidance as she grows. She’s smart, eager to please, and will make a wonderful companion for the right family. If you’re looking for a fun, loving, small-breed puppy to add joy to your days, Coconut is waiting for her forever home! The following are requirements for Coconut’s future family: 1. Because small breed dogs can live 16+ years, applications will be accepted only from age appropriate individuals who will be able to provide activity, care and support for Coco for her entire life. 2. A home where someone is home much of the day. Applications will be considered if there are children in the home over the age of ten and if they have had previous experience in gently interacting with small dogs. 3. A family who is patient and will continue Coconut’s house training and leash training, and will expose her to new dog appropriate experiences. 4. Provide Coconut with plenty of daily exercise and stimulation, including walks and supervised time in the yard. A secure, fenced yard would be ideal. 5. Another small dog in the home with similar energy would be great, because Coco enjoys playing with other dogs, but she would also be fine as an only dog. 6. Live within an hour’s drive of Minneapolis, MN. 7. Agree to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Coconut is, current on vaccinations, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She is scheduled to be spayed on May 7th and will be microchipped on that day. Her adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93 sales tax for a total of $566.93. To meet Coconut, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Looking for a little man to keep to be a great companion? Nico could be the one for you! He is full grown at 4 years and only weighs in at 5.6 pounds. You won’t find a calmer, sweeter guy who loves to be held and have his tummy rubbed. But, don’t let him fool you as he does love other little dogs and he will often run and follow them all over the house. He adores his tiny little soft toys. He throws them up in the air and then will grab them and run to hide them under blankets and dog beds! It is so cute. At night Nico curls up in bed with his own fluffy quilt right next to you. He will go in a dog bed, but really prefers to be next to you or his foster dog brother in your bed! He is learning to walk on a leash and every day we go out and practice a few times in the yard and throughout the neighborhood. Be prepared to pick him up if you want to walk fast or go on a longer walk…he just can’t keep up and may tire easily at this point. But he will build up some endurance as he becomes accustomed to walking more. He also loves to stop and look at all the people and houses and action a neighborhood provides. He has learned to go up stairs but with his short little legs it is a chore for him, so his foster mom often will just carry him up. Going down is way too scary for him right now, but he can learn with further practice. Housetraining is a work in progress also, but he does know that he needs to do his business when he goes outside. He is very good about that, so he is taken out first thing in the morning and then about every 4 hours after that. He has had no accidents in the house for several days now! Nico appears to be very smart and wants to learn and please you. He has 1 or 2 treats he loves, and is treat motivated, so he has been easy to work with. Nico currently lives with a Shih Tzu foster brother, who is setting a good example for him in the home. If he has another well behaved and trained dog in the house it will been much easier for Nico to learn tasks and disciplines from him—he follows the other dog’s lead! Nico would be a good travel buddy as well. He does very well riding in a car. He is used to riding in the seat next to you on a plush blanket secured by a seat belt harness. He is very healthy and is up to date on vaccines and neutered. His teeth are also in great shape! His only health quirk is that because he is so tiny and has such a pushed in face, he lightly snores a bit, tires easily, and be overcome by high temperatures outside and on walks. This is what Nico will require in a new adoptive home: · Patience and calmness to continue all of his training and socialization. · A quiet home but one in which there could be another small dog for his companionship. · Someone who is home much of the day or can come home every 4 hours or so; but someone with another little dog for his companionship would be ideal-especially if you had to be gone often. This little guy needs company. · Because of Nico’s very small size, a quiet, adults only home would be preferred. But applications will be considered if children are over the age of ten and have demonstrated experience in gently interacting with a very small dog. · Live within 45 miles of Bloomington, MN. · Commit to coming with Nico to our annual Rescue Reunion Picnic in September. Nico is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $420.00 plus $37.91 sales tax for a total of $457.91. To meet Nico, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Obi is an eleven-year-old male Shih Tzu who weighs almost 18 pounds. He was very loved in his previous home by a couple who moved into assisted living and who unfortunately could not take him with them. When Obi was a newborn puppy he had to be bottle fed, which caused some nerve damage in his tongue. Consequently, his tongue hangs out. It just makes him more adorable and isn't causing him any trouble. But it seems to be easier for him to eat and drink out of a flat bowl. He is a very hungry guy and will let you know when he needs more food! Obi has dry eye, which is common Shih Tzus, and he needs daily eye drops. He's very good while his foster mom is applying the drops to his eyes. Obi is a low-keyed guy and enjoys cruising slowly around his foster mom's fenced backyard. He enjoys shorter walks and likes to turn around once he goes potty. He could probably lose a pound or two, but that can be achieved via diet, because he’s not into a lot of exercise. He prefers to sleep on rugs instead of in dog beds and is happy to just to hang around with his people. Obi was a little shy at first of his foster mom of her and her two small dogs, preferring to hang out in another room. Each day he became more comfortable and has moved closer to them. He has been an only dog his entire life and prefers that. He does well on his own while his foster mom works from home, sleeping most of the day except when he gets really hungry or thirsty or when he's on a daily walk or two. He is house-trained but still enjoys marking and sniffing outside and on walks. He rides well in the car. These are the ideal requirements for Obi’s new family: 1. A quiet household that is home most much of the day, and will spend time with Obi. 2. Be able to administer his daily eye drops. 3. Be the only dog in the household. While Obi tolerates other dogs, he is not really happy with other dogs living in the house. 4. Live about 75 miles from New Brighton, MN. 5. Willing to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue reunion held in September each year. Obi is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $220.00 plus $19.86 for a total fee of $$239.86. To meet Obi, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph.

Story
*Star’s adoption fee has been fully sponsored by a generous donor*Hello! My name is Star and I’m ready to light up your life! My life in a nutshell? Well, up until I came to Minnesota, I lived in Alabama with my five babies. But it wasn’t glamorous, we lived in the woods. I approached a home, led them to where we were living and they got us to safety. Now that all of my pups are adopted and in loving homes, I think that it’s my turn! I’m a quirky, gentle girl with a heart full of love. I guess you could say that I’m cautious, new things still make me a little nervous. But with a bit of patience and a lot of pets, I warm up pretty quickly. I like to be around my people, curling up in cozy spots and giving soft nose boops. Once I’m comfortable, my silly side will definitely come out! I’m a very loyal girl once I know that I’m safe with you. I can’t wait to find my forever home and live the best life that I can. I know that I’m someone’s perfect match, hopefully it’s you! Love, Star--------------------------------------------All our Warrior Dogs will have all age appropriate medical care and vaccines, a microchip, and spayed/neutered if the dog is over 6 months of age at the time of adoption. Please note that the majority of our dogs in rescue are from shelters where they have been found as strays or abandoned. Their breed description is based on our very best educated guess based on physical characteristics and their dispositions. If they came to our rescue as an owner surrender, the breed description will be listed as provided by the previous owner.Adoption Fee - $0To apply for this pup, please submit an Adoption Application at http://warriordogrescue.com/adopt/adoption-application/
