Story
This beautiful, loving girl is Ella a 3 yr old, 98# female Great Pyrenees (or mix) . She is sweet and loving with people, good with dogs and cats - we haven"t seen her with children, but with her nice temperament we expect she would be good with respectful kids 5 yr and up. Her foster mom works from home, and puts Ella outside at 4-6 hr intervals Ella doesn't ask to go out to do her business. Not a chewer, doesn't initiate barking but might join in if one of the resident dogs bark. Sleeps on the floor in your room, and doesn't go up on the furniture. Loves to ride in the car just lays down until you get to your destination (which she hopes is the dog park, where she can run and play with all the dogs that are there). Ella sits on command, comes when called, and doesn't pull on leash. She is fine being brushed, and isn't shedding much at all. No interest in playing with toys. Not a chewer. Ella is calm, easy going, and eager to please. Puts her head in you lap, or gives you a paw when she needs attention. Ella attaches to her person quickly, and is devoted to them, which is ideal in most situations, but Ella has separation anxiety. Her adoptive home must have another friendly dog, and we recommend Ella bond with that dog before she forms that tight bond with you... we can give you tips on how to do that, and that way Ella wont feel so abandon when you leave the house. Her person should be home much of the time retired, or work from home. This is manageable, and she is doing well in her current foster home. Ella has been spayed, and is current on distemper, rabies, lepto and Bordetella vaccinations. A heartworm test was positive, and she was treated for that in May. A recheck heartworm test will be needed in 6-9 months (October of this year-January of next year) , and Second Chance will cover that cost at your clinic. You are welcome to take/use the large plastic crate she is accustomed to, and return it to Second Chance when you no longer need it. Her microchip is registered to Second Chance. Ella can be adopted for $350 please call 651-771-5662 with questions, or if you would like to adopt her. How To Adopt Ella was listed as ADOPTABLE by Second Chance Animal Rescue How can I adopt Ella? Story
Some dogs are able to recover from neglect or abuse faster than others…..if only they could tell us about those early years of their life. Cody is a 3.5 yr old. 13# male Shih Tzu/maltese former breeder dog that is still in the process of his recovery, and is hoping someone with patience and previous dog experience is able to take him and continue working with him. Another small, playful dog and a secure fenced yard are also requirements to help him be successful. Cody would not be suited to a family with children of any age because of his fears of new people, loud noises, and fast movements. He has been in his foster home for quite a while – he trusts his foster mom, and is relaxed and seeks attention from her, but transitioning into a new home could be like starting all over again. Let me tell you more about him. His foster mom is retired, and home with him most of the time. Cody prefers to approach her for cuddle time when she is sitting or laying down, instead of towering over him. He comes to her when she calls him inside the house, but doesn’t have recall when he is out in the yard, so he is either contained in a kennel area when out, or drags a long leash around in his fenced area so you can use that instead of grabbing at him when he’s out. If someone scares or forces him, or raises their voice, it takes quite a while for him to forgive you. He tolerates meeting new people, but is more fearful of men and might try to hide from them. His foster home has a doggie door that he has learned to use, but his new home might not; Cody is willing to go out into the cold for a short time, so you will need to establish a schedule that works for him, and have a potty pad down for emergencies. His meals are dry food soaked in water for 5 minutes – he can be reluctant to eat, and acts like he is watching for new people to approach. Cody is most comfortable around the resident dogs, and loves to run and play with them. The other dog/dogs in the home should be tolerant, playful, be good pack leaders and “show him the ropes”. Cody rides OK in the car, in a crate. In warmer weather, he has been taken on short walks – doesn’t understand the purpose of a walk when there is a perfectly wonderful fenced yard to run around in. Cody has a loud bark, so best suited to single-family home instead of a building that shares a wall with another family. Cody is neutered, and current on vaccinations. The heartworm test and tick profile are all negative. He requires grooming about every 3 months. If you have questions, or would like to adopt Cody, call 651-771-5662. His adoption fee is $300 .

Story
Meet Kira, an adorable one-year-old Golden Lab mix who weighs about 50 pounds and is ready to find her forever family. Kira is a perfect blend of high-energy fun and deep affection. Her favorite thing in the world is leaning her body against her humans to get all the pets and cuddles she can handle. Kira is an active girl who loves going to the dog park, playing with toys, and having space to run and sniff. She walks well on a leash, though she can get focused on animal scents and just needs a little redirection. This sweet, easy-going girl gets along wonderfully with other dogs, cats, and people. She is also fully house-trained and crate-trained. Kira's ideal forever home is with an active owner, a fenced-in yard, and another dog friend to keep her company, as she truly thrives around other pets. If you are looking for a goofy, loving companion for your next adventure, Kira is your girl! Kira is spayed, vaccinated, and she tested heartworm negative. Her microchip is registered to Second Chance. Kira can be adopted for $350. Call 651-771-5662 if you would like to meet her.

Story
Hey Everybody, meet NIxie! She is a 7-1/2 year old mix whose paperwork calls her a Shih Tzu/Bichon mix. Her foster mom calls her adorable. (Kind of looks like an Ewok for you Star Wars fans.) She weighs just over 14#, has been spayed, vet checked, is up to date on shots and has had recent dental work. She is negative for parasites and heartworm. She is on a monthly heartworm preventative that needs to continue as she is a Texas transplant. Nixie does have a well managed health issue (prone to urinary stone formation) and she will always need to eat a prescription dog food - be sure you can afford this. A urinary sample done 4/28/26 showed she does NOT have crystals/stones. She came to us as her previous owner went on hospice. We have no other information on her background. She is friendly, but stand-offish with all dog friends she has met. She would probably play with other dogs as she gets to know them and if they initiate the play. When it comes to people she has no problem becoming a new best friend after a few minutes. She will initially greet anyone through the door with a bark that is a lot bigger than her size. She responds to her name and comes when called but seldom strays very far from her person when loose in the yard. She gets on furniture if it’s not too high or with help. She will go in her crate on her own with only minor bribing. Nixie will play with soft toys by herself or with you. She doesn’t get the idea of fetching with a ball but will bring other toys back to you for more play. She is housebroken, walks well on a leash and rides in a crate in the car without any protest. She knows a few basic commands. Nixie will need to be groomed 5-6 times/yr - an ongoing expense to keep in mind. She has been around respectful, dog savy children, but we don’t know about cats. Her adoption fee is $250. Call 651-771-5662 if you have questions or would like to meet Nixie.

Story
Georgia comes from a Reservation, where she was an outdoor dog that never had a family to take care of her – she was on her own. She has acclimated well to becoming an indoor pet and is ready to find a loving home of her own. Georgia is a 4 yr old female yellow lab mix that weighs 40#. She is housebroken, and can be crated when left (or she might get into things or chew inappropriately). After about a week of learning the routine of her new foster home (she recently switched to a new home) , Georgia is now left for up to 9 hrs and not crated. But she has another dog in the home, approved things to chew on, and knows she’s going to the dog park when her foster gets home. Not a barker, but might cry a little when left or kenneled. She likes chewing on rawhides and nylabones, and is learning to play with dog toys. At night, she sleeps in a dog bed on the floor. Her foster describes her as a very sweet, energetic dog that loves to be petted. She now socializes with some people at the dog park, but is still on the shy side – more friendly with kids than with adults. Has been respectful of the resident cat in her former foster home. Tries (unsuccessfully) to get the resident dog to play with her; good with meeting new dogs; definitely benefits from having another dog in her home. Georgia would do best if her new home had a fenced yard for her to run around in – she has one now, and respects the 4 ft fence. She is an active girl, and needs an active person (like a jogger) or someone that will take her to the dog park to provide adequate exercise. Georgia knows her name, and is learning to come when called – never drifts too far away from you at the park. Likes men and women equally, and is excited to see you if you’ve been gone. Sits close to her person for attention, and will give you her paw to encourage you to pet her. If she knows you, she might even jump on you to greet you. Georgia has adjusted to riding in the car, and can be tethered in the back seat. Georgia has been spayed, and is current on distemper and rabies vaccinations. Her 4 DX is negative, and her microchip is registered to Second Chance. If you would like to meet her, please call 651-771-5662. Her adoption fee is $300.

Story
Laura is a sweet, loving, gentle energetic little girl! She is a 1.5 yr old, 41#, female terrier-poodle with a black, curly coat. Laura gets along with both large and small dogs. She doesn't live with cats but is smart, so with time I think she could adjust! We haven't seen her interact with children, but expect she would be fine with respectful kids 6 yr and older. She loves all humans that will give her attention! Laura loves going for car rides, walks, playing catch outside & snuggling up at the end of the day! Laura is a very smart girl who would do great in obedience class! She knows how to "sit" on command, and is learning "off" when it comes to being on furniture (although she does get to go up on the dog's sofa). She is also learning "out" as dogs are not allowed in kitchen when foster is cooking. Laura is potty trained and will go to the back door and bark when she needs to go out. She is crate trained and spends 6-8 hours a day in one with no accidents. Laura loves sleeping in her dog bed in the master bedroom. Being so young, she still has some puppy-like behaviors, and needs approved things to chew on. Might play "fetch" with you for a while, but really enjoys playing with another dog, so a fenced yard and another canine pal would be ideal. Laura is spayed, and current on distemper, rabies and bordetella vaccinations. Her 4DX (which includes the heartworm test) is all negative. The microchip is registered to Second Chance. Laura has a $350 adoption fee. Please call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in meeting Laura.
