In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Meet Mack, a sweet and loving boy! Mack is eight years old and has beautiful, soft, silver, white and tan fur. Even though Mack has only been in his foster home since July 25th, he loves to show his foster parents the things he enjoys most in life. Mack is most happy when you are home with him and he loves to always be near you. Mack is working on potty training and will need to continue to work on the potty training with his adopters taking him outside often and consistently to relieve himself. His foster parents take him out every few hours, and he is starting to understand "go potty”, especially when it is accompanied by a little treat! Mack has a very sweet, playful personality. He will bond quickly with his new family, so it won’t take long for him to love you! Mack is good with older children and other dogs. He loves his squeaky balls and playing fetch with them. He will spend quite a bit of time both playing fetch with people or, quite adorably, throwing the ball to himself and continuing to play with it on his own. Mack enjoys short walks with his foster parents and Shih Tzu foster brother. Mack loves everyone he meets and is confident in greeting people by running up to them for a pet. Mack loves to please and is a smart pup who can learn quickly! He knows the commands for sit and speak. He would be happy in a home with or without another small, calm and confident dog. Mack is a very sweet boy who wants the perfect home and family. To ensure that, here are the requirements that his foster parents are looking for in his new family. · Mack would like a family that is experienced with dogs and will continue to help him with training and socialization. This means time devoted to his training and learning other important doggy behaviors, such as basic commands, leash walks outside, exposure to new, safe experiences, and lots of ear scratching and belly rubs. · Mack is developing cataracts and requires daily drops twice a day for the rest of his life. His adopters must be able and committed to administering the drops forever. · Mack can be in a home with another confident, small dog who will help him learn by being a role model and friend. Also, he would do well with a family with respectful children of school age. He would also do well as an only dog if he has opportunities to learn to socialize with other dogs on walks or other family activities. · Mack is not yet fully house trained. His new family needs to understand this and must take him out every couple of hours during the day. Mack does sleep all night though, without the need to go potty outside. · Mack’s new family should live within 30 miles of the south metro area. · Commit to attending the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Mack is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He is healthy, although requires eye drops twice a day for the rest of his life. He has a dental appointment to get his teeth cleaned on August 19th and he will be ready to go to his new home after a short recovery. Mack’s adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 in sales tax for a total of $348.88. To meet Mack, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us at the rescue’s Meet and Greet from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington, MN.

Gizmo is a wonderful little Shih Tzu and Maltese mix. He is 8 years old and weighs 11 pounds. He is learning how to overcome months of neglect and isolation in his former home and is slowly making improvements while receiving love and care. He came into rescue suffering from long standing ear infections as well as severe dental disease. He has received thorough veterinary care while in rescue, and his initial defensive behavior has now changed to that of a sweet, loving boy. He was just in so much physical pain that he didn’t want to be touched, especially near his head. Gizmo is house trained, and loves at last being able to roam freely in his foster home rather than being in a kennel for most of the day and night. He sleeps so sweetly with his foster mom at night, and during the day is quite the cuddler. He loves giving you kisses and showing affection. His foster mom is working on a simple solution for his food and toy guarding, which will resolve in time. Unfortunately, he does not like children so he must go into an adoptive without children. However, we have found that after getting to know an older child, he does become a bit more comfortable with them. So an occasional visiting child might be okay. Gizmo loves to be outside walking with you! He really needs lots of exercise, so walking 2-3 times a day is quite essential for good behavior and for bonding with you. Gizmo is a lovely little boy and longs for a permanent forever home. If you meet the following requirements, please consider applying for him: 1. A quiet, adults only home, without children, where someone is home much of the day. He truly enjoys being with his people. 2. A fenced yard, if possible, as he loves to run and chase. 3. A home without another dog or cat - he craves affection all to himself. 4. Be willing and physically able to take Gizmo on 2-3 long walks every day. He really enjoys the outdoors and especially walking. 5. A family who is understanding and patient who will continue working with him to overcome his trust issues around his food and toys. 6. A home within 30 miles of Eden Prairie, MN. 7. Attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each September. Gizmo is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total of $348.88. To meet Gizmo, please complete an adoption application using the website listed above. You can also meet Gizmo and other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota at the monthly Meet & Greet, held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month at Chuck & Don's, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., Bloomington, MN. Because of the Independence Day holiday, the July event will be held on July 11, with the regular first Saturday schedule resuming thereafter.

Juju is a sweet, curious little guy who will turn 9 years old this October. He’s friendly with people and gets along well with other dogs. He enjoys going for walks and exploring, and he does best when he has some variety in his routine to keep life interesting. Juju weighs 19 pounds, and needs a good amount of exercise, via walking, playing in the yard, or playing in the house, because he also loves treats and will come running when he hears that treat bag open. He’s an affectionate, easygoing companion who is happiest being part of the family. Juju has a gentle personality and is ready to find a forever home where he can enjoy love, companionship, and new adventures. Juju is well behaved he knows commands like sit and stay. He does well on a leash although he does pull a bit. Juju with thrive in a family that gives him lots of attention and affection. He would be fine with another small dog companion in the home, but would also be okay being an only dog. These are the requirements for Juju’s new family: 1. Be home much of the day because Juju is a real people dog and needs his people’s company. A family who will include him in their daily activities would be ideal. 2. Be willing and able to provide lots of daily exercise, via long walks, playing in the yard (a fenced one would be great!), or playful indoor exercise. 3. A family with children will be considered if they are over the age of ten and have demonstrated that they know how to gently and respectfully interact with a small dog. 4. Live within 30 miles of Lakeville, MN. 5. Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Juju is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total of $348.88. Story
Koda, your new best friend Koda quite literally means “friend” or “bearer of peace.” This sweet, shy, handsome boy has been with the rescue since he was found, dumped with a sibling at an RV park. He army crawls. When relaxed, he sploots & stretches out. This timid pup loves nothing more than the comfort of your lap. Koda gets along well with other dogs & would probably benefit from having a confident dog buddy in the home. Shy dogs are hidden treasures. Their unwavering love & devotion, once earned through patient TLC, is a bond like no other. Can you welcome this “teddy bear in the making” into your heart & home? Meet Tinka, a charming 40-pound Catahoula and Black Mouth Cur mix with a heart full of love. Tinka is not only intelligent but also incredibly sweet. His well-trained demeanor is a testament to his eagerness to please. Tinka's love for other dogs is boundless; he's a playful companion who brings out the best in his four-legged friends. With a gentle introduction, he can even get along famously with cats, showing his adaptable nature. But what truly sets Tinka apart is his affection for children. He adores kids and is their loyal and patient friend, always ready to share his love and wagging tail. His good heart shines through in every interaction, making him the perfect addition to any family seeking a smart, sweet, and loving companion. Tinka was with the rescue as a puppy (see cute puppy pic) and was returned after found on the streets of SA :( But he is an amazing boy, had some special obedience training with his previous family and now he can be YOUR new family member!!! Story
Meet Wishbone! The PBS kids’ show likely got the name idea after seeing this handsome guy! He is a fabulous terrier mix. He is smart, can sometimes be a bit stubborn, puts his sniffer to great use, has lots of energy & plays hard. He particularly enjoys rolling in the grass. Once he is tired, he is a champion snuggler. He needs a little more work on his leash manners as he is strong & eager when he begins but settles and walks great after about 10 minutes. Wishbone gets along well with other dogs, but he’d thrive best with a calm companion. No small dogs or cats as he has a prey drive, not surprising given his heritage. Wishbone has so much love to give & has been waiting a long time for his own family. Could you make his wish come true?
