Are you looking to add the ultimate dynamic duo to your life? Meet Cali and Bruno – a bonded pair of chihuahuas that would love to meet you! Cali is estimated to be 7 years old, she is house trained and crate trained. She does great in a houseful of cats and does well with other calm dogs. She does well with older, respectful kids. She is super duper sweet and loves to snuggle. She is a total lap dog and loves being carried around. Bruno is estimated to be 7 years old, he is house trained and crate trained. He also does great with a houseful of cats and does well with other calm dogs. He does well with older, respectful kids. He loves to sunbathe and is a pretty chill dude, for a chihuahua anyway. Both Cali and Bruno are champion walkers and love to go on walks around their neighborhood. They are affectionate and friendly dogs and would certainly love to sleep in bed under the covers with their forever person – (but they also are perfectly happy to sleep in their crates too.) These two are both friendly, snuggly and fun! We will only accept applications from the metro Twin Cities area. Cali and Bruno’s adoption fee are $330 each. Photos by https://sanderkenwood.com

Story
In addition to the following profile for these dogs, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Meet Sophie and Tucker, a bonded Shih Tzu pair who are great companions. They came into rescue when their owner died unexpectedly. They must be adopted together. Sophie, the female, is 9 years old and weigh 10 pounds and Tucker, the male, is 3 years old and weighs 19 pounds. They have luscious tri-color coats with reddish brown, black, and beige colors. They are calm and obedient dogs who are very easy to care for. They are housetrained and love to receive a treat for going potty outdoors. After going out one last time before bed at night, they sleep undisturbed with their foster mom until she awakens and takes them out to potty first thing in the morning. They ride beautifully in the car and walk well on a leash. Both like to cuddle with their people and follow you all over the house and especially love when people and dogs come to visit. They are both very docile and cooperative will let you clean their faces with a wet cloth and not object. Sophie is a gentle, low energy lady. She wants nothing more than to sit on your lap and get petted! She is very friendly and loves everyone. Sometimes she can be a bit scared of loud noises, but she finds comfort in her people. She does enjoy walks, but tends to only want to go a few blocks before wanting to head home. Sophie takes a couple of medications for allergies, which she will need for the rest of her life. She does not generally play with toys, Tucker does. Tucker is a playful snuggle boy! He loves to play with his people, and his big sister, Sophie. He still has the last of his puppy energy and loves going for walks. Tucker always keeps an eye on Sophie, checks on her, and naps next to her wherever she decides to nap. He protects and grooms her and is upset if you take her away without him. Tucker may get a bit nosey and pokes into things. He really likes certain types of toys and seems to have a time of day when he gets really playful. Requirements for applicants interested in Sophie and Tucker include: • A family with or without children, but children must be older than 10 years. Prefer adopters who are home most of the day. No older senior applicants will be considered due to Tucker’s young age. • Must adopt both dogs together (bonded pair). • Willing to take them outdoors for walks regularly every day, must be physically able to care for a young dog such as Tucker, and can handle two dogs. • A home within 30 miles of Eden Prairie, MN. • Willing to continue with treatment plan for Sophie’s allergies. • Must commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Sophie and Tucker are spayed/neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. They will have a dental before they are adopted. The adoption fee for Sophie is $120.00 plus $9.03 sales tax for a total of $129.03. Tucker’s adoption fee is $320.00 plus $24.08 sales tax for a total of $344.08. The total amount to adopt both dogs is $473.11. The adoption fees reflect a $100.00 discount for adopting both dogs together. To meet Sophie and Tucker, please complete an adoption application on the STRMN website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see them and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck and Don’s at 6821 York Avenue South, Edina near Southdale.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Doc, this 8-month-old Shih Tzu/Maltese puppy is amazing! In so many ways he is all puppy: curious about everything, playful, mischievous, active, and happy to jump on any toy or person! Doc loves to walk, explore, and meet his neighbors. He will snuffle and bark at strange movements and noises - especially when he sees birds, squirrels, people, and other wildlife outside. He is fast as lightning, so his new owners will need to always have a leash on him when a door is opened so he does not slip out. Favorite toys range from small to big, squeaky to silent, and little balls to plush bears with eyes and ribbons! At the same time Doc is acting out as a puppy, you can scoop him up and he will cuddle right into your lap and arms. He loves to have lots of tummy rubs and gives lots of kisses. He is a very sweet little boy with plenty of personality and love to give. His vet and groomer both say he is a gentle, loving little boy. Doc will sleep through the night right beside you in bed, although he would also love to snuggle in with his foster brother. He is house trained, and he is taken out during the day every 4 hours to go potty. Doc just had a haircut, fully vetted and ready for a new forever home! Puppies always need basic training, so a puppy class is highly recommended for Doc to learn boundaries and good behavior. His foster mom has found him to be a good listener and quick learner we know he would love a fun class! He is well socialized and gets along with other small dogs and all people. If you have the time and energy for a sweet, lovable puppy like Doc, please submit an application if your home meets these requirements: • You live within 45 miles of Bloomington, MN • Must be home enough that Doc can be let outside every four hours. • No children under the age of 12 - a puppy is known for play nips and lots of jumping. • You must have indoor space for a puppy that loves to run and play not just with toys, but with you! Doc loves to play fetch with you! • Be committed to consistent walks 2-3 times a day with lots of socialization and interaction. • Sorry, no apartments or condos because Doc will bark at noises. • It is not required you have another small pup, but Doc would love that—or a small, active, friendly neighborhood pup he could have daily playdates with! (Doc IS used to living with 3 other playful pups in his household) • A commitment to attend our Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion every year in September. Doc is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is 470.00, plus $40.07 sales tax for a total fee cost of $510.07. To meet Doc, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck and Don’s at 6821 York Avenue South, Edina near Southdale.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Petey is an 8-year-old male Shih Tzu mix that weighs 15 pounds. He has beautiful curly black hair with a small white mark on his chest. Petey came into rescue when we were contacted by a veterinary clinic, where he was taken to be euthanized because his owners didn’t want him anymore. The vet thought Petey was a sweet boy and wouldn’t, in all good conscience, euthanize him, so the owners just gave him to the clinic. Petey had been badly neglected by his owners, was horribly matted and had no previous veterinary care. When he was evaluated by the veterinarian, Petey was found to have chronic kidney disease. He is now on a very specific prescription diet for kidney disease and is doing very well. He cannot have any other food or treats because his kidney disease will return and he will prematurely die. But if maintained on the prescription diet, he can live a long, healthy, happy life. No other medications, other than the diet, are necessary. Petey is a loving, happy guy. He follows his people and wants to be by you or at least always be able to see you. He likes to spend his evenings sitting with you. He enjoys going outside and loves a fenced in yard. Petey is pretty well house trained, and his foster parents continue to work on that by letting him out every couple hours during the day, and by having piddle pads available for him at night. He sleeps contently in his own bed at night. He does not enjoy the company of other dogs in the house, so it would be best if Petey is the only dog in the house. An adults only home would suit him perfectly, although older children (older than 12 years), who are quiet and respectful would be okay. These are the requirements for Petey’s new family: • An adult, stay at home family, although older children would be okay. • Must be the only dog in the family. • Petey does not do stairs so he needs to live in a single story home. • A fenced yard is a must. He loves to explore the outdoors, but as importantly, he must be let out every 2-3 hours to urinate, and a fenced yard would facilitate that. • Petey needs a family that can willingly afford his prescription kidney disease diet, and be vigilant about feeding him ONLY the prescribed food, including treats. He must stay on this for the rest of his life in order to remain healthy. • A family within 60 miles of the Twin Cities. • Commit to attending the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion every year in September. Petey is neutered, current on vaccinations, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. He needs a dental, but has not been able to have it performed due to his previously untreated kidney disease. But with his prescription diet and improving health, he should be able to have it done within a few months. His lab results must be rechecked at Rice Creek Animal Hospital in December to see if his health has improved enough to have a dental. It may take another blood test three months after that (March) to be certain that it is safe to do the dental. The rescue will pay for the necessary bloodwork and dental if he is adopted before then. However, the tests and dental must be performed at Rice Creek Animal Hospital. Petey’s adoption fee is $270.00 plus $23.02 sales tax for a total cost of $293.02. To meet Petey, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck and Don’s at 6821 York Avenue South, Edina near Southdale.
