An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Are you looking for a petite Shih Tzu that is adorable, charming and a little silly too? My name is Pearl. I will be 2 years old in June, weigh 6 pounds and have beautiful, soft and silky black hair. Everyone thinks I am cute as I always wag my tail and like to give kisses. When I first came to my foster home, I was not accustomed to a harness or leash. Now I love to put them on because it means I get to go outside! I love to go for walks in the neighborhood with my foster mom and her dog. I like to stop and watch the people and the bunnies and squirrels. Actually, I am learning to watch and NOT chase the bunnies and squirrels! Because I have not had a lot of exposure to people and things in the environment, I have a lot to learn. I adapt well though, if you give me time and you are patient! My foster mom is also happy that I am learning to go potty outside! If she forgets to take me outside I get right up in her face and kiss, kiss, kiss to let her know I need to get outside! Pearl is very sweet with a little tomboy thrown in! She is a bit shy at first, but as soon as she knows you, all is well and she is very happy. Pearl will need to continue to learn basic dog obedience and gain confidence, so she would really benefit from formal obedience/socialization training. Pearl does love to please and is a smart girl that learns quickly! If you are willing to give this little girl time and love, she will be your best friend forever! Pearl could be happy in a home with another small, playful dog or as an only dog. If there is not another companion dog in the family Pearl needs a “human” companion who will be with her much of the day. She needs a quiet, calm household with adults and possibly school aged children who are experienced and respectful of dogs. Pearl is a very special girl who wants a perfect home and family. In order to ensure that, here are the requirements that her foster mom expects for her new family: • Because Pearl is an active two year old and Shih Tzus can often live 14 plus years, she must be placed with an age appropriate family who can fully care for her for her entire life. Pearl would like an active family that is experienced with dogs and will continue to help her with training and socialization. This means time devoted to her training and learning other important doggy behaviors, such as leash walks outside, exposure to new, safe experiences, and lots of ear scratching and snuggles. Pearl would love to be included in as many family activities as possible. • Pearl can be in a home with another confident, small dog who will help her learn by being a role model and friend. However, she would also do well as an only dog as long as she has opportunities to learn to socialize with other dogs on walks or other family activities. A family that works from home would also be wonderful for Pearl. • Pearl is not fully trained for going potty outside. Her new family needs to understand this and must take her out every couple hours during the day. Pearl does sleep all night though, without having to go potty outside. She will definitely want to sleep in bed with her new family as she loves to cuddle! • Pearl’s new family should live within 40 miles of the south metro area. Pearl is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $470.00 plus $42.42 in sales tax for a total of $512.42. Her foster mom would like her new family to attend our Rescue Reunion held each year in September. To meet Pearl, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.

Zoey is a seven-month-old Shih Tzu/Maltese mix with the perfect blend of playful puppy energy and sweet cuddle-bug charm. This adorable little girl is currently thriving in her foster home, where she spends her days playing fetch with neighborhood children, exploring the backyard, and curling up on the couch for snuggles at the end of the day. Zoey absolutely lights up when she hears kids nearby and happily runs along the fence to greet her neighborhood friends. She would love a forever home with a fenced yard where she can safely play, explore, and burn off some of her puppy energy. Like any young puppy, Zoey is still learning the ropes. She is smart, eager to please, and enjoys learning new things, but she will need a family committed to continuing her training and socialization. Puppy classes will help her build confidence and develop into a well-mannered adult dog. She already loves playing fetch — she’s just still working on the “bring it back” part! Zoey is also working on potty training and will need consistency, patience, and a regular routine to succeed. She currently goes outside every 3–4 hours and does best with a structured feeding and potty schedule. Daily walks help keep her happy and engaged. At night, Zoey sleeps peacefully in a crate beside her foster family’s bed, though she would happily trade that for a cozy spot snuggled up with her forever family. Zoey is looking for a loving home that understands puppy hood requires time, patience, and commitment — but the reward is a lifetime of love, laughter, and companionship. If you’re searching for a playful, affectionate companion to grow with your family, Zoey may be the perfect match for you! Apply today to meet this sweet little girl! The following are requirements for Zoey’s adoption: 1. Since Zoey is still a puppy and small dogs can live 16+ years, applications will only be accepted from age-appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the activity, care and comfort that Zoey will need for her entire life. 2. Someone who is home much of the day, since Zoey needs continued house training. She also thrives on the companionship of her humans. 3. A family who will actively participate in puppy training classes with Zoey and will provide the physical activity and stimulation that a puppy requires. Having a secure, fenced yard would be ideal. 4. Applications from a family with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated an understanding of and have experience in gently interacting with a small dog will be considered since Zoey seems to really enjoy her interactions with children. 5. Live within 30 minutes of Fridley, MN. 6. Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September of each year. Zoey is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and is on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She is scheduled to be spayed June 23, 2026 and will be ready for her forever home after a short recovery period. We are currently accepting applications for her adoption and she can go to her new home once she has recovered from her spay surgery. Zoey’s adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93 in sales tax, for a total of $566.93. To meet Zoey, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month at the Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.

Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Whiscuit is an 11-month-old imperial (tiny) male Shih Tzu cutie, weighing only 4.5 pounds. Whiscuit is a happy-go-lucky fella who would love to play with you and join you in whatever it is you’re doing! He is happy to play with all sorts of toys, but his favorite ones are crinkly and ones that he can take around the house. Whiscuit is not particularly food motivated, but he still enjoys a treat every now and then. He’d love to sit in your lap while you’re working and run out his zoomies when you take breaks. Whiscut is getting used to being outside and walking on a leash, and enjoys stopping and sniffing around the yard and neighborhood. He is good with the children of the foster family and while he can be shy at first, is interested in meeting other pups! Because Whiscuit is still a young puppy, he will need an adopter committed to basic puppy training, potty training reinforcement, and gentle guidance as he grows. He’s smart, eager to please, and will make a wonderful companion for the right family. If you’re looking for a goofy, sweet, small-breed puppy to add joy to your days, Whiscuit is looking for his forever home! The following are requirements for Whiscuit’s future family: · Because small breed dogs can live 16+ years, applications will be accepted only from age-appropriate individuals who will be able to provide activity, care and support for Whiscuit for his entire life. · Applications will be considered if there are children in the home over the age of ten and if they have had previous experience in gently interacting with small dogs. · A family who is patient, home most of the day and will continue Whiscuit’s house training and leash training, and will expose him to new dog appropriate experiences. · Provide Whiscuit with plenty of daily exercise and stimulation, including walks and supervised time in the yard. A secure, fenced yard would be ideal. · Whiscuit would be perfectly happy being an only dog, but can also live with another small dog in the home who has similar energy. · Live within 30 minutes of Saint Paul. · Agree to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each year in September. Whiscuit is neutered, microchipped, current on vaccinations, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93 sales tax for a total of $566.93. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Obi is an eleven-year-old male Shih Tzu who weighs almost 18 pounds. He was very loved in his previous home by a couple who moved into assisted living and who unfortunately could not take him with them. When Obi was a newborn puppy he had to be bottle fed, which caused some nerve damage in his tongue. Consequently, his tongue hangs out. It just makes him more adorable and isn't causing him any trouble. But it seems to be easier for him to eat and drink out of a flat bowl. He is a very hungry guy and will let you know when he needs more food! Obi has dry eye, which is common Shih Tzus, and he needs daily eye drops. He's very good while his foster mom is applying the drops to his eyes. Obi is a low-keyed guy and enjoys cruising slowly around his foster mom's fenced backyard. He enjoys shorter walks and likes to turn around once he goes potty. He could probably lose a pound or two, but that can be achieved via diet, because he’s not into a lot of exercise. He prefers to sleep on rugs instead of in dog beds and is happy to just to hang around with his people. Obi was a little shy at first of his foster mom of her and her two small dogs, preferring to hang out in another room. Each day he became more comfortable and has moved closer to them. He has been an only dog his entire life and prefers that. He does well on his own while his foster mom works from home, sleeping most of the day except when he gets really hungry or thirsty or when he's on a daily walk or two. He is house-trained but still enjoys marking and sniffing outside and on walks. He rides well in the car. These are the ideal requirements for Obi’s new family: 1. A quiet household that is home most much of the day, and will spend time with Obi. 2. Be able to administer his daily eye drops. 3. Be the only dog in the household. While Obi tolerates other dogs, he is not really happy with other dogs living in the house. 4. Live about 75 miles from New Brighton, MN. 5. Willing to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue reunion held in September each year. Obi is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $220.00 plus $19.86 for a total fee of $$239.86. To meet Obi, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see him and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon the first Saturday of every month at Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.

Story
I have had so many chances in my young life. Seriously...I was found with four siblings at about 2.5 weeks old, dumped in a box at the post office... we were so, so sick and close to death. My rescue mom really worked hard to get us healthy and LIVE. And we did! About 6 weeks later, we all got parvo..... and my rescuer was able to nurse all of us out of it! All my siblings have been adopted, and I am ready too! I am somewhat shy and will take time to settle into my new family. But I will adjust. I am best with another dog, calm and confident, because I will mirror that energy. As a gorgeous catahoula/whippet mix, I have plenty of energy and I love to play! Fetch and chase games are my favorite . I am adoptable in Texas, I need to meet my family and you need to meet me! Local adoption fee is $200 (in TX)
