Story
Hello, my name is Mae, I am a 9 ½ year old pit terrier mix. My current mama calls be Maeb, short for Mae baby. I don’t really mind what you call me, I’ll still come. Unfortunately, my mom has been sick and is unable to care for me as need; I am in need of a new home. I just want all the love and attention. I also want to love you and give you all the attention. Want a companion who will always and forever follow you to the bathroom and truthfully, wherever you go? I am your girl! When I’m not following the humans, I like to take cat naps with my feline sister. Sleeping is my main hobby at this time. I like walks, I get tired easily. 30 minutes of walking is considered a BIG walk. I do like toys but don’t typically pay much attention to my them. I either get bored or rip them to shreds, there’s not much in-between. However, I will listen if you tell me to stop destroying them.

Story
Beau will be 2 in February. He is a fixed German Shephard / Siberian Husky Mix. Treat Trained. Knows commands. Can be vocal around new people but acclimates fairly quickly and stays quiet. Good walker. Better as a single home dog with adults and /or older children, no cats. He currently lives with his "sister", a young female German Shepherd, but would likely thrive solo. Active pretty guy who is very gentle, loves cheese, toys, peanut butter, and belly scratches. He e is crate trained, house trained, and has multiple beds & toys we can provide. He loves walks or running in a fenced yard, and horseplay. Due to a progressing cancer diagnosis, we need to find him a loving forever home asap.

Story
Maverick is a 7-year-old male retriever-shepherd mix, who came into our program as an owner surrender when his family was no longer able to care for him due to unexpected life circumstances. Maverick had lived with his family since he was a puppy, until just a couple of months ago, and was very well loved. He lived in a home with young children and is reported to be great with kids. Maverick is a very lovable dog, who thinks he’s a lap dog and loves to snuggle with anyone who will let him. He is about 90 pounds so it’s best to have him snuggle next to you. Given that Maverick is a large dog, who doesn’t always know his size, and could inadvertently bump into a small child, we recommend that any children in the home be about 6 years of age or older. Maverick loves to be with his people, he rides well in the car and likes to go on walks – but is best to be walked on a gentle leader as he does have a potential to pull if he sees another dog or person that he would like to meet. Maverick has been great with all dogs and people he meets but can be a little shy at first. Maverick loves to play with toys, especially balls and tug toys, he also enjoys an appropriate bone now and then. Maverick loves to play “catch” with a ball – this is probably one of his favorite things. Maverick is crate trained for a full workday and is housebroken. He loves to hang out with his humans inside and out. A fenced yard is preferred so that he can wander around the yard safely, but is not required for his forever home. Maverick barks appropriately when in the yard and in the house, but when getting used to a new environment he does bark at noises he doesn’t recognize, so a home with shared walls may be difficult at first unless his human(s) are home much of the time to help him acclimate. Maverick is a pretty relaxed dog, who loves to hang out and be with his human(s). He could be an only dog, or in a home with other dogs. Maverick should not go with cats - he will chase them if they jump up or run and play. If the cats are senior, and aren't very active, he might be OK . Maverick is up to date on his distemper and rabies vaccinations, heart worm tested negative and his microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee for Maverick is $250. If you would like to learn more about Maverick, or set up a time to meet him, please call us at 651-771-5662.

Story
Are you looking for a smart, active, playful dog, one you can jog/ run with and one who is also a good house guardian? Meet Maggie. Some dogs need time to find the right person and that is the case with this beautiful dog. This poor girl has been bounced around quite a bit in her short life, but despite all of the flux she’s experienced, she remains happy. We know she would thrive in the right environment and would be a wonderful companion for someone looking for a smart and active young dog. Maggie is definitely a people dog – she bonds quickly and is smart and eager to listen and learn. She would do best with people willing to train her, give her lots of exercise, and possibly even a “job” to keep her occupied. Maggie enjoys snuggling on the couch and will nose your hand to receive more pets. In fact, she loves her people so much she can get jealous if there is another dog in the house who approaches when Maggie is getting love. Her family should be aware of this and work with her on sharing. Praise and attention are her favorite rewards – even more than food. She is very loving and eases nicely at night – she would love nothing more than to cuddle in bed with her person. There’s never a shortage of kisses when she’s around! This girl is small (#40) but STRONG. We think she is a Dutch Shepherd (or mix) and she'll turn 2 yr in July. She needs someone able to hold on to her during a walk or use a gentle leader. While she is good with older kids, she might easily pull them over on a walk depending on their size, so we recommend a strong adult walks her. We also recommend kids in the home are older (10 years and up) since she is unsettled around the fast and unpredictable movements of toddlers. Maggie is very playful but can scare other dogs with her rough play. She’s not aggressive, she’s just the kind of dog who thinks it’s good fun to body slam. We have only found one dog that will keep up with her and reciprocate her rough play – most dogs tend to get intimidated or tired quickly. Maggie doesn’t always respond to cues from other dogs and she will often continue to initiate play, often stressing other dogs that aren’t interested. We think she might do best as the only dog in the home or paired with a large active, playful, submissive dog. Maggie is a little timid on walks and unsure of new experiences while out on a walk – understandably so! She needs someone that will gently encourage her to explore things she is hesitant to approach in order to instill confidence in her. Heavy traffic is particularly scary, but she does well as long as she is reassured. We feel that this will lessen over time as she gets more exposure to new situations. One thing that doesn’t frighten her is squirrels! She loves to try to catch them and being so strong, she needs someone able to hold on to her when she gives chase. A fence is no challenge to Maggie, nor is a loosely installed tie-out. Given the chance, she will easily jump a 4-ft fence, sometimes with the tie out trailing behind! She never goes far, but clearly this is a dangerous situation for her. She will need a home that has a high privacy fence, or a secure tie-out. We cannot stress enough – Maggie needs to RUN. She can run for 30-45 minutes without a break, and she loves it! If she does not get enough exercise, her pent-up energy shows! It is very important she has an active family or a large yard where she can run and play. Maggie LOVES to play. She does a good job of entertaining herself when no one is interested in playing with her. She enjoys plush toys, rope toys, filled bones, and Kong toys. It’s adorable when she throws a rope toy in the air then rushes over to retrieve it. She would be a great candidate for any games or toys that she has to figure out – she’s incredibly smart (OK, and sometimes stubborn). Maggie also loves car rides. Riding in the car might be her favorite activity. Given the chance she will jump in the car anytime – even if you just got back from a trip and haven’t had a chance to close the car door yet! Maggie is reliably housetrained. She will tolerate being kenneled when left during the day but has to be encouraged with a treat or filled Kong. Being so smart, Maggie knows a handful of commands and we are sure she could easily learn more! Right now, she knows sit, stay, come, down, wait, off, and paw (shake). Maggie is an excellent alert dog. She is very aware of her surroundings and will make her people aware of someone on or near the property. Maggie makes sure to reminder her family someone is close and remains alert until the person leaves. Maggie was a stray, so we don’t know a lot about her beginnings, but have amassed a lot of information from her foster homes. She’s a great girl and we think the right home is out there – it just might take some time to find it. She deserves the chance to have a permanent family that can teach her, keep her challenged, and most importantly, love her. Because she plays so rough, it’s probably best if she lived in a home without cats. She is spayed, vaccinated, and Heartworm negative. Her microchip is registered to Second Chance. Maggie's adoption fee is $300. Call 651-771-5662 if you have questions, or would like to meet her.

Good with dogs, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Skyler is a handsome 1 yr old Australian Shepherd. He weighs 56# - with beautiful coloring and soft brown eyes. He’s friendly, and has youthful energy. He wags his tail a lot, and gives sloppy slobbery kisses! He’s also very affectionate – will sit next to you forever if you will scratch his ears. I don’t think he’d ever get tired of it. Enjoys tummy rubs, too. Excellent snuggler. He’s very playful, happy and fun loving. He chases balls and retrieves them. He actually brings it right back to you and will even put it in your hand. Skyler is young, energetic, and has herding-dog instincts; with adults, he will sometimes nip at their hands when playing. This is not an aggressive gesture - it's his instinct to herd coming out in play. He has not done this with children. Very playful and needs a yard to run in – preference will be given to someone with a secure fenced area (He does not try to jump the fence). He really loves to fetch the tennis ball for you.........but if you don’t play with him, he entertains himself with the ball. He would really enjoy being paired with another playful dog. Skyler is highly motivated by treats - constantly sits for treats without even being prompted. He would do well with an active family. Learning to walk on leash – does best in harness -needs reminders not to pull when he sees squirrels and other dogs. Going to dog parks or the lake are exciting times for him, and he has a difficult time listening to you in these situations. Knows the commands to sit and stay, and appears to be a smart dog. Skyler is housetrained. He’s so well behaved that he has not been crated. Is good with other dogs, and reported to be good with cats (but we haven't tested this). Has been with older kids and did well, but no exposure to youngsters – he has a good disposition, and is gentle and loving, so might be OK with respectful kids 6 yr and up. He enjoys being with people as much as possible. Skyler is neutered, and current on distemper, rabies and bordetella vaccinations. His heartworm test is negative, and the microchip is registered to Second Chance. His adoption fee is $375. Call 651-771-5662 if you are interested in Skyler.
