Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Jagger (aka: Kody, Kody bear, Kodiak) is a Shepherd X with an approximate DOB of 5/14/2020. Jagger weighs in at approx. 50 lbs. He is a fun and playful pup with lots of energy, who would benefit from an active lifestyle. Jagger loves to go on walks, car rides and hikes. He is a shadow and wants to follow you where ever you go. He also likes to go out frequently and run around the back yard. Jagger knows some basic commands and will do well with continued training and learning as he is a very intelligent dog. He is very treat motivated and loves a midday Kong filled with kibbles and treats. Jagger likes to play with his toys, chewing on bones and playing fetch. Jagger can be very mouthy when playing, and needs work on gentler pay, for this reason it is best if he is not in a home with children under age 12. Though, this may not be as bad as he ages. We are working on calming him down when he get really feisty, but he is still young and wants to play hard. Jagger was in a previous home with another dog who was more possessive of their food and treats and Jagger did not take cues to stop playing or bothering the dog. For this reason, Jagger would do best in a home where he is the only dog. Jagger is working on leash manners and does pretty well when he sees other dogs though he likes to try to get to them and he tries to charge moving vehicles, so more leash work is needed.  Jagger does bark at other dogs and people through the backyard fence, and he barks in he house when he sees people outside, so no shared walls. Jagger also should not be on a house with cats due to his high prey drive - this is also a reason a fenced backyard would be best for Jagger. Jagger is kennel trained but may whine and bark a bit when he first goes in and when he hears people moving about. He sleeps best with a fan or other sound on.  Jagger is a very sweet and loving dog who will cuddle when he is ready to settle down. Jagger is ready for his forever home, if you would like to meet him in person fill out an application.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Fallon is a wise, old soul. He is a Lab/Shepherd X with an approx DOB of 1/20/2022. He’s taking in new experiences as if he’s done all this before! Nothing is too urgent, except for meal time! He loves play time with other dogs and older children. He hasn't had a lot of exposure to children under the age of 10 so slow, controlled intros are advised. He has a nose to hunt and playfully enjoys chasing the chipmunks out of their hiding spots around the yard. He's quite an outdoor explorer, never quite ready to come inside. That being said, he quickly learned the underground fence boundaries and is no longer pushing the limits. He is crate trained, but as he gets older he's more and more comfortable outside of his crate and sometimes needs treat motivation to go in on his own. He loves hugs and snuggles and is always open to curling up in an available lap. Fallon is a medical needs dog. He has urinary incontinence, which requires him to wear belly bands at all times. He is on a strong dose of Proin 2x per day and a monthly testosterone injection, which helps some but he will always be a leaky boy. Changing his pads in his belly band a couple times per day is going to be very important to maintaining his hygiene to avoid urine scalding (burning of the skin due to prolonged exposure to urine). Commands he has learned include “sit”, “down”, “inside”, “outside” and “kennel”. He is making progress with stay, wait, stop and come. He has been with Wags & Whiskers since he was about 10 weeks old but as you can imagine it has taken the rescue a while to figure out what was "wrong" with him. He is now finally ready to find his forever family and we are hoping that his anotomical issues won't deter him from finding a home. He really is a sweet boy that will need a special adopter that is home often and willing to work with his leaky faucet Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Hi, my name is Bannon.  I was born somewhere around Christmas in 2020, am a Collie/Shepherd mix, and weigh about 55lbs. Another interesting fact about me is I weaned 11 puppies!   I am working on walking on a leash, but my preference is a large fenced back yard. I need exercise, so please plan to take me on long walks/runs or a good playtime in the backyard a couple times a day.     I have a few things that I am working on. One is I'm mouthy with people. I'm not trying to bite you, but my excitement overtakes me sometimes. My foster family is working on me getting a stuffie when I start to go over threshold. So, having a lot of toys around for me is important to keep on this training. I also am jumpy. So, probably no small kiddos for me. Both behaviors are common in younger dogs and tend to subside with constant training .   I am crate trained when my people are home so if I truly need a break, that is a safe place for me to rest. When you are away, I am not a huge fan of the crate but have not ever broken out of it. I do bark a little in the crate, especially when I know you are home.     The biggest consideration a potential adopter for me should have is my boundless energy. Being a running partner would be a dream come true for me. Otherwise, a fenced in yard where I can endlessly play fetch would be wonderful. I'm also very smart, so if you're looking for a dog to impressively train or teach a job to, I'm your gal!   One other thing to note is that I'm selective with my dog friends. It is probably best that I am an only dog in the home due to this. I also have a bit of a prey drive so no cats or small critters in my house as well. Do you have a home that can give me all the attention I need!? If so, please apply! NOTE: Bannon tested positive for Lymes Disease. This is a tick borne illness that is relatively common in dogs who live in states where ticks are more prevalent. Most dogs live their whole lives with no issues or flare ups caused by these diseases. It is important that Bannon's adopters know what symptoms to watch for when a flare-up occurs so she can be put on meds to keep it at bay. The treatment for this is a 30 day course of Doxycycline, a relatively inexpensive antibiotic. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Meet Lila a very sweet 30 lb., Whippet/Terrier mix with an approximate DOB of 2/28/2021. She is spayed, microchipped, heartworm negative and up to date on core vaccines (Rabies/Distemper).  Lila was found as a stray in Minneapolis and seems to be a bit skittish and untrusting. The adopter will need to be patient as Lila gains trust and gets to know her routine. Lila can be laid back but also has energy that needs to be burnt off through walking exercise, stimulation with toys and play time. As she has been in her foster home her playful side is starting to come out. She enjoys playing with balls but does not understand how to drop and play fetch. She enjoys batting the ball with her paw and chasing it as it rolls down the hill outside. She also likes squeaky toys and plush toys so any small humans might have to share their stuffed animals if they are not stored out of Lila’s reach. With that said Lila is not comfortable around little kids so it is best to be adopted in a house with children over 12. Lila would also benefit from obedience and dog socialization classes in a safe environment as she needs to learn some rules and boundaries and how to be a better dog. Lila does well with other dogs with slow introductions and can be a bit in their face as she just wants to play with them, but also has a jealous side. Her current foster has three (3) dogs, and she gets along with them and wants to be part of the pack. Lila might be best in a home where the human works from home as she wants to be around as she gains trust and confidence. She can be very vocal when left alone or put in kennel so it is suggested that there should be no shared walls for her as well. Lila is house trained and does well when left unkenneled if she cannot reach the countertop, especially food. She has slept in a bed a night and loves being close to the fosters and then will not whine or bark. Lila would benefit from a fenced yard as she tends to want to run and escape her surroundings due to fear and uncertainty in situations and will run away if you try to catch her.    Although you would not know it as she seems fine, Lila has been diagnosed with severe hip dysplasia in both hips, so it is very important to keep her lean. Let Lila her set her exercise limits but also do not let her overdo it.  Swimming would be an excellent activity for her to do and shorter walks. She does not seem to have any pain and x-rays showed there was no arthritis at this time but the vet says that no intervention needed currently but she may need a salvage procedure in the future. Outside walks have gone well with other dogs, but she does have a prey drive and pulls on the leash. Her fosters are working with her on how to walk on a leash, but they do enjoy watching her smell and pounce as she is still a young dog. She could be the only dog or live with another non-dominant, easy going dog her size or bigger. Small dogs, cats, or other animals such as chinchillas, hamsters etc. are not recommended in the house with Lila. Lila would make a wonderful addition to the right warm and loving home. If you would like to learn more about Lila and set up a meet and greet, please fill out an application.    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, my name is Elsie and I am a Lab X  with a DOB of 10/22/22 (approx. 50lbs). I am a native to Minnesota where I was found roaming the streets in St Paul. Animal Control was kind enough to give me a lift as I thought it was to my home, but it was to the nearest doggie jail where no one claimed me.   I would like to mention a few characteristics I have that make me stand out from the doggie crowd. -  I hop like a bunny around the yard. -  I patrol the yard for squirrels, rabbits & cats. No one gets past this girl’s watchful eye. -  I am non-reactive with other dogs – I just want to play with them. -  I have a 4’ 5” vertical jump.  6’ fence is recommended -  I Pounce on tennis balls while I play with them. I like to ride a shotgun when it comes to car rides. They make a doggie seat belt as I have been told and I guess that should be used for any car rides in the future. I am learning not to dash out the door when it’s open.  I’m just very excited to follow my foster mom wherever she goes. I love toys, but I don’t share them with other animals. You just need to take all my toys, hide them and I can play with other dogs in harmony.  I have been known to escape my kennel. Because of this I now have my own “No Break Kennel”. This now keeps me out of trouble when I’m home alone. I am not a fan of the kennel, but I settle down quickly.   I tend to pull on the leash, so my foster mom bought me a hot pink gentle leader (I'm the prettiest girl on the block now) and is teaching me basic commands such as heal and stay for starters.  I have to say, so far so good as I do enjoy my walks in the neighborhood.  I am still working on potty training.   What kind of home would do best for me: -  Active home that can release my spirited energy and have dog stimulation toys. -  I am food motivated and this works great for training. -  Be patient as I am still young and learning. -  Love me with all your heart as I will do the same.      Are you my forever home?      Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.Interested in adopting this lovable animal? Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Say hello to Silvia. She is an energetic puppy equally ready to play and snuggle, her estimated DOB is 6/5/23. She is still working on house training. But is picking up kennel training well. Does great playing and interacting with other dogs. She is food motivated so needs to be kept on eye on when feeding other animals. Until she learns that it is not her food. She’s currently a little underweight. But we are working on that, and she should grow into a big healthy girl.
