Story
Maverick is a 7-year-old male retriever-shepherd mix, who came into our program as an owner surrender when his family was no longer able to care for him due to unexpected life circumstances. Maverick had lived with his family since he was a puppy, and was very loved, but has been in foster care for almost a year now trying to find a new home. He lived in a home with young children and is reported to be great with kids 6 yr and older. Maverick is a very lovable dog, who thinks he’s a 90# lap dog and loves to snuggle with anyone who will let him. He probably should drop a couple pounds. Maverick loves to be with his people, he rides well in the car and likes to go on walks – he does tend to pull if he sees another dog or person that he would like to meet. Maverick has been great with all dogs and people he meets but can be a little shy at first. Maverick loves to play with toys, and he also enjoys an appropriate bone now and then. He is confined in “his” room for a full workday and is housebroken. He loves to hang out with his humans inside and out. A fenced yard is preferred so that he can wander around the yard safely, but is not required for his forever home. Maverick barks appropriately when in the yard and in the house, but when getting used to a new environment he also barks at noises he doesn’t recognize, so a home with shared walls may be difficult at first unless his human(s) are home much of the time to help him acclimate. Maverick is a pretty relaxed dog, who loves to hang out and be with his human(s). He could be an only dog, or in a home with other dogs. Maverick should not go with cats - he will chase them if they jump up or run and play. If the cats are senior, and aren't very active, he might be OK - the cat he's napping with in the picture is 21 yr young, and doesn't run from him, so they sometimes nap together. Maverick is up to date on his distemper and rabies vaccinations, heart worm tested negative and his microchip is registered to Second Chance. The adoption fee for Maverick is $195. If you would like to learn more about Maverick, or set up a time to meet him, please call us at 651-771-5662.

Border Collie Retriever (Unknown Type)

Male, 8 yrs 3 mos

Story
Cameron is an 8 yr old male border collie/retriever mix that came into our program a few months ago. His owner had died, and no other family members were able to take him in – so Cameron lived outside for 2 months on a tieout, and a kind neighbor fed him until a rescue could be found. When Cameron first came, he did not want to come in the house and he was leery of the cat. He now gladly comes in the house, but always checks to see where the cat is. Cameron gets along well with the resident dog and the two older dogs that visited. The dogs like to be in the front yard where they can watch people and dogs walk by. Cameron would enjoy the companionship of another mature medium-size dog. Cameron and the cat usually ignore each other. Any children in the home should be at least 12 yr old - younger kids might play too rough with him, and toddlers might climb on him. Cameron has been invited up on the couch and bed - he has only been on the bed two times – just to check it out - he seems to prefer sleeping on the hard wood floor where it is cooler or on a throw rug. He has also only been on the couch twice, so if you are looking for a dog that doesn’t go up on the furniture, Cameron could be your match. He is good meeting new people, and likes attention. He got out of the yard once when the gate was not securely closed. He went for a brisk walk down the block, eventually going into the fenced play ground area of the neighborhood school. When he saw the leash in his foster’s hand, he gladly came and was walked home. He had ignored any calling of his name, probably because he hadn’t learned his new name yet. The dogs are in and out of the house many times during the day as the yard is fenced in and safe for them. When Cameron is asked if he wants to go “outside” he sort of excitedly barks and wags his tail and heads for the door (otherwise he is a relatively quiet dog) and he does ask to go out by coming to you and whimpering. He rides in the car nicely (needs an assist to get in), although it is probably a new experience for him. Cameron was very aware of the Fourth of July fireworks sounds, but didn’t seem to be overly upset or nervous. He was very happy to be inside with the other animals. Cameron has one unique habit. He is fascinated with shadows and reflections of shiny things. It could be that he had been tied up most of his life, so that was one thing he used to amuse himself. He has spent a fair amount of his life on a tie-out, so now we would like him to have a fenced yard to move around in. Cameron is neutered and vaccinated. In March of this year he had routine blood chemistries done that were clinically normal, and in that same month had a dental cleaning with one extraction. In May , he had a lump on his left back foot removed - pathology wasn't cancer - it was a bunch of hair, skin, & other miscellaneous tissue they couldn't really identify (this is all healed up). His microchip is registered to Second Chance. He has some muscular atrophy over the left hip area- likely osteoarthritis, and is on fish oil and glucosamine supplements (and should continue on these). Also, he should not gain any weight – he weighs 52#, which the vet says is about the maximum weight for him. Arthritic hips make it difficult for him to negotiate the steps – he just doesn’t have the strength in his back end – so he needs a single level home with only 1 or 2 entry steps. He can’t jump up on furniture, or into the car. If there is another dog in the home, it should not rough-house or jump on him to play. Low impact exercise – such as walking or swimming, is encouraged. His adoption fee is $225. Call 651-771-5662 if you would like to meet Cameron. He is a gentle, mellow, well behaved dog.

Snapshot of Trudy: Size? Full Size (40-60 pounds) Activity Level? I play hard and snuggle hard! Noise Level? I bark when I play! Good with Dogs? I would LOVE a playmate, but would also do fine on my own Good with Cats? I'm ok with dog-savvy cats Good with Kids? Great, but I do jump up! Good with Strangers? I love everyone! Potty Trained? I'm a Pro! Crate Trained? I do well in my crate! Shedding? I don't shed much. About Trudy: Hello! My name is Trudy and I am looking for my forever home! I weigh about 52 pounds and I just love toys, my humans, and the dogs that live with me! I am very good at going to my crate and I'm learning to mind my manners when it's dinner time! I am almost a pro with potty training, I just need to know what door to stand by so my humans can see that I need to go out. I like slow intros to new dogs, once they understand my boundaries we do just fine. I love kids, but since I'm still learning not to jump up when I see people, older children would be better for me. I am quite the cuddler and would love to snuggle while you're working or watching TV! I also love to go on long walks. I would do well with another pet or as the star of the show. I would LOVE to find my forever home and am looking forward to meeting you! Trudy is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for her age. Story
Snapshot of Rae! Size? King size (50-70 lbs.) Activity Level? I play hard and sleep hard! Noise Level? I like to alert people that something new is happening, but I quiet down quickly! Good with Dogs? I would do best as an only dog. Good with Cats? No cats please. Good with Kids? I love everyone but my energy and size are better suited with older kids. Good with Strangers? I need slow introductions. Potty Trained? I'm a pro! Crate Trained? Love my crate! About Rae: Hello - I'm Rae and I came to TCPR from a local shelter when nobody claimed me. Can you believe that no one came looking for me? Just look at my cute face!!! I know how to sit, down (lay), touch, shake, leave it, kennel and that the "uh-uh" sound means I'm doing something I probably shouldn't be. I'm working on learning how to play fetch and I love stuffies and my current favorites are bones and squeaky tennis balls. I go to my kennel for bedtime and when no one is home, and I hardly ever complain about it. I really enjoy walks and can go for multiple miles (weather permitting). I walk pretty well on leash as long as small animals like squirrels and rabbits don't cross our path, I just think they are so fun to chase! My foster home does not have a fenced yard but I would love the freedom of running without being on a leash. I need regular exercise to burn off energy and keep me out of trouble! If I am able to burn some energy, I will gladly sleep with my head on your lap while you watch a movie. I would also do very well in an obedience class and would definitely benefit from one. I get very excited to meet new people but I don't trust their dogs and will bark to tell them to stay away. I used to share the house with a resident cat, we had met a few times but the cat didn't appreciate the energy I greeted her with and told me off with a swipe of the paw.. that doesn't deter my enthusiasm, so I may do better in a cat-free home. Because of my size and energy, I would do better in a home with older kids or adults, because my zoomies might knock over a small child. If you're looking for a buddy to sit out on the patio at your local brewery or meet ups at the dog park, we might not be a great match. However, if you want a walking buddy and can throw a ball around for me, I think we could be perfect together. Would you like to be my forever family? Rae is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for her age. Level 1 Obedience training is required. Twin Cities Pet Rescue has reduced Rae's Adoption Fee to $100 + applicable taxes to help her find a forever home who will continue to work with her and provide her with training to help with her anxiety and reactive behavior. Snapshot of Trooper: Size: Large, 75lbs Activity Level: High Noise Level: moderate barking but quiet in the house Good with Dogs: yes Good with Cats: unknown Good with Kids: No Good with Strangers: Skittish and slow introduction but warms up quickly. Potty Trained: Yes Crate Trained: Yes Shedding: Yes Hi my name is Trooper: I think I'm pretty much a pure German Shepard but its tough to tell because nobody knows where I came from. I was found on the streets, severely underweight and in pretty bad shape, but finally got taken into rescue and was given some much-needed love and care. During this whole journey, they told me that I am likely about 3.5 years old and although I was skinny at the time, they helped me get back to a normal weight of about 75lbs. Being on the streets made me pretty weary of new people, so I am not a huge fan of strangers and don't like being approached. Because of this, I don't think I would do the best around young kids; however, after you give me some time to check you out, I do warm up quick. I haven't been around many cats, but I do know that I am a fan of playing with the dog friends my family has introduced me to. Aside from some of my skittish behaviors and fear towards new people, I actually am very smart. My foster parents tell me that I am one of the smartest dogs they know and love making me do all these ridiculous things. I know the basic commands like sit, shake, stay, and lay down, but also know a few others like when to place on my mat and can go to my kennel when being told...usually. I also am big fan of play wrestling with my foster parents but am still working on calming myself down when they tell me they're done. I can get a little mouthy (I call them teeth kisses) but have learned that this is a bad trait to have, so I have been working hard to stop doing that as well. I can definitely keep up with an energetic lifestyle and love to play and go on walks. When I am not playing, I don't mind lounging around. I typically like staying near my people and making sure I know what is happening at all times, and definitely love some cuddles and belly scratches. Overall, I know there are some things I need to work on, but I am convinced that if someone can continue to work with me, I can make a great companion. I love being outside so would love a place where I can still explore the yard and have room to run around. I wouldn't mind sharing a house with another pup as long as they can manage playing rough sometimes. While I might not do great in a crazy home with kids and tons of new people, I would love to be someone's buddy for life. Trooper is fixed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations for his age. Adoption Fee: $400 + applicable tax Trooper is currently on medication for skin allergies. With his reactivity and anxiety he will need further training and possibly medication to help him.
