Xander

Rat Terrier Chihuahua

Male, Adult
Vancouver, WA
Size
(when grown) Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less
Details
Not good with cats, Needs special attention, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained, Spayed or Neutered, Shots are up-to-date,
Story
Xander is loving, and loyal, the very best cuddler and adventure buddy! He loves going on hikes and road trips, and learning new things. We are seeking to rehome him because as a busy family with social young adults and cats his need for management around strangers (and the cats!) puts an unfair stress on all of us. His ideal home would be one that enjoys training: tricks, scent work, cooperative care, etc. and doesn’t have too many strangers coming and going from the house. He bonds deeply and loves unconditionally. He is extremely emotionally attuned and naturally alerts me when I’m becoming anxious. Veterinary care is up to date. Xander has Addison’s Disease which requires life long daily medication, a monthly injection, and twice per year labs. He has reactivity to people and dogs which is manageable due to his size and training. He has snapped and nipped at people with the triggers being guarding his “person” and handling sensitivities. No one has ever been harmed

Story
My daughter got this dog as a puppy. Now my daughter has moved but left the dog and has no room for her in her small apartment. I work all the time. So, this dog that is so smart and protective of its owner is just by herself all the time in the backyard. I take her into her kennel each evening and give her a quick belly rub, but that is about all the interaction she gets. She needs a new home. My daughter says her medical records are at a local vet. She is spayed. This would be great dog for a single retired adult with no other pets that would like a dog that loves its owner and provides aggressive home security within the home.
