Story
Joyful. Smiley. Gentle. Silly. If you're looking for a dog who brightens your day simply by being herself, you found her! I'm Lassie, a 10-year-old, 48# Border Collie and Australian Shepherd mix (best guess), and I'm proof that growing older means you appreciate the good things in life. My theme song is "Happy" by Pharrell Williams. Once you meet me, you'll understand why! I love a nice, leisurely walk, followed by a fluffy dog bed where I can stretch out and relax. I'm also an enthusiastic fan of pets, attention, and giving kisses to my favorite people. My foster family says I'm the perfect dog! I read the room like a pro: my fun, puppy-like energy comes out when it's time to play. Laying low while you're busy is no problem at all. I'm easy-peasy. My ideal home is peaceful with a family who enjoys staying close to home and believes in getting out for daily exercise. Short strolls are my favorite - I'm an amazing walking companion. Traffic, strange noises, and other dogs do not bother me. My fosters have taken me on outings to a parade and a brewery, and I got an A+ at both events! I could happily live with another calm dog or be your one-and-only. Best in a home without kitties or small animals I would interact with (chickens, ducks). Gentle, calm children could be part of my family, too. A fenced yard would be wonderful but its not a requirement. I want to be near my people, only outside if they are with me. You can leave me loose in the house without worrying. My fosters are helping me lose a few remaining extra pounds - boy do I feel good! You might notice I got a big haircut. That was part of the 'feel better' plan too - my mats are gone! One of my pictures shows my beautiful coat that will grow back soon. If you're looking for a sweet companion who appreciates quiet days, comfortable beds, gentle affection, and little adventures, I might be your girl. My forever family will gain a little happiness every single day because I have plenty to give away! Lassie is being fostered in Savage, MN. APPLY to adopt her at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Lassie is taking supplements and medication that are approximately $60/month. We believe getting to a healthy weight and time to settle with her new family will make the world of difference for this special girl, reducing the need for these items. Details will be provided to interested families. Her adoption fee is $250 plus Minnesota tax. Lassie is spayed, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Story
Burt is a 45# Australian Cattle Dog mix dressed in a Border Collie suit. Do not mistake this little sporty spitfire for a calm, thoughtful Border Collie. Burt's high-octane energy is what makes him fun. He believes he is invincible and can do anything. His foster family fondly calls him Crash. Roughly 3 years old, Burt is old enough to know better and too young to care. He learns quickly and loves a challenge! He likes to climb ladders, walk on his hind legs for apples, and forage in the garden. This makes him a good candidate for circus life or living on the lam. Burt also loves to swim and play tug. There is very little he doesn't like: he puts his all into everything he does. In Burt's foster home, he lives with two other dogs, cats, and teenage kids. Burt has learned how to be respectful with all of them. Burt is used to being crated at night and has excellent obedience and wonderful recall. He would love to continue learning in any setting: with an avid hiker, runner, or participating in rally, obedience, agility, dock diving... anything that involves action. He is the kind of dog who needs a person to be his leader and help him live up to his potential. Truly, the sky is the limit! Burt's perfect leader is fair and has experience with pushy/driven/busy dogs, time to work with him, and is not afraid to say no when the situation warrants it. If you are looking for a dog to be your personal sidekick, Burt is your guy. There is literally nothing he cant do if he understands the mission. APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Burt is being fostered in St. Joseph, MN. His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Story
Cayden is a 5 yr old, 43 lb Australian Shepherd who was never supposed to make it this far, and now he’s ready to discover what he’s been missing. Born with a dangerously narrow heart valve, Cayden’s early years were spent living a very sheltered life. No rough play. No excitement. No adventures with other dogs. His family did everything they could to protect him, never knowing if a moment of exertion might be too much for his heart. But Cayden proved them wrong. Five years later, his heart was stronger, and he became a candidate for surgery. He underwent a pulmonic balloon valvuloplasty, and it was a success! His heart is now strong enough for him to experience the world he was once protected from. The challenge: the world is very new to him. Cayden is now learning some of the lessons other dogs learned as puppies. Bikes, strollers, lawnmowers, unfamiliar people and dogs can leave him wondering, “What am I supposed to do with that?” He’s making wonderful progress, learning to look to his person for guidance when something is unfamiliar. His confidence is growing right along with trust in his people. He has discovered some pretty wonderful things along the way. Cayden loves car rides, puzzle toys and lick mats, and he has a special weakness for people who get down on the floor. Get low, and there’s a good chance Cayden will come over to become your new best friend. And get this: thunderstorms and fireworks don’t seem to bother him much at all! Because Cayden missed those early experiences with other dogs, he needs to be the only dog in his home. He likes dogs, but he doesn’t yet understand how to share his home and live cooperatively with them. Cayden is housebroken, has lovely house manners, and is ready for a person who will continue showing him that the world is a safe and wonderful place. After five years of being protected from life, Cayden finally has the chance to live it. Cayden is being fostered in Minneapolis, MN. His adoption fee is $250 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Story
At just 18 months old and around 40# (plus a whole lot of fluff!), Marco is an adorable Border Collie/Australian Shepherd mix (our best guess). He is a loyal, slightly clumsy and utterly lovable Velcro dog, happiest wherever his people are. With lovely medium energy, Marco is always up for playing and doing things with his family. He is equally happy relaxing in the yard, soaking up the sunshine while watching his favorite show, Bunny TV. Cuddling with his humans is another favorite pastime. He discovered the joy of toys, and his goofy play style is downright adorable. Marco can be shy when meeting new people. He prefers to take his time, observe, think things over, and then decide when he's ready to approach. Once he feels safe, his sweet personality shines. Patience, kindness, and allowing him to move at his own pace are key to building his confidence and winning his trust. The ideal family for this handsome lad will help him become more confident without sheltering him from the world. He wants to explore, experience new things, and expand his horizons. He loves being outdoors and loves going for walks. A securely fenced yard would be amazing: he would love a safe place to explore and gain faith in himself. Marco does well with the cats in his foster home, simply ignoring them. We know from his prior home that he cannot live with free-range chickens. A calm, confident canine companion could be a good match after proper introductions. He could live with mature children who understand that loud noises and being startled aren't his jam. He is housebroken once settled into a new routine. Relaxes in his crate when his people are away. He wants to take his new family to obedience classes to learn lots of things and spend time together. You will not find a more devoted companion than Marco. He cannot wait to find a deep connection with a special family that will treasure him as much as he will adore them. APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Marco is being fostered in Rochester, MN. His adoption fee is $450 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Cupcake is a delight! Fondly known as Cece for short, this 36#, 12.5-year-old Sheltie and Border Collie mix proves that age is just a number. She has plenty of pep in her step, a lovely prance when she is happiest, and a zest for life that charms everyone she meets. Describing Cece is easy. She's friendly, affectionate, confident, curious and observant. She wants to be close to her people, joining in on whatever they are doing. Whether its accompanying them on a leisurely stroll, going out on the pontoon, or simply lounging nearby for ear and butt scratches, Cece enjoys being part of the family. She is a certified cook's assistant in the kitchen! Her ideal day includes a couple of walks where she can stop and investigate interesting smells along the way. Her ears perk up, her tail rises proudly, and off she goes, ready to explore the world one sniff at a time. A few tosses of a Frisbee or ball, rolling in the grass, watching birds from the deck, and savoring peanut butter frozen treats are also high on her list of favorites. Cupcake would thrive in a home that appreciates a medium-energy companion. She doesn't need a fenced yard if she can spend time exploring safely on a leash. She prefers to be the canine center of attention in her new family. She meets other dogs outside her home without any issue at all, and she lives peacefully with kitties... even naps alongside her feline friends. Because quick movements can startle her, Cupcake would do best in a home without young children. She is a healthy, happy girl with lots of love to give. If you're looking for a loyal companion for walks, adventures, and cozy evenings, Cece may be the perfect match. See more videos of her playing in the yard at https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLX07iF3qnQnU APPLY to adopt her at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Cupcake is being fostered in Lindstrom, MN. Cupcake's adoption fee has been sponsored by a generous donor. She is spayed and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Sheffy is ready to find his perfect match! He’s a strikingly handsome 2-3 yr old, 39# Border Collie mix. Affectionate, curious, observant, and deeply connected to his people, Sheffy pays attention to everything. He enjoys keeping watch over the yard, exploring the great outdoors, and swimming & playing in the water (see video). When it's time to chill, he is happy to curl up in a cozy dog bed with a Kong and relax. Sheffy is a medium-energy boy: busy and engaged without being a four-legged tornado. His happy place is outside: folks who enjoy exploring, hiking, gardening, or any excuse to be outside are a great match. A calm, patient home where he can continue building confidence with his trusted humans will help him shine. His theme song is “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey - a family that believes in him will make him unstoppable. Loves other dogs and could easily have a canine sibling, and he could also be your one-and-only pup. Herding breed experience is preferred. Settles after a few minutes in a crate, although he firmly believes cozy dog beds are a better choice. Great fit for families with older kids who enjoy being active without chaos. Unphased by traffic, bikes or other dogs while out on a walk. He learns quickly and wants to make his people happy. Easily lived with a dog-savvy kitty in his foster home. Return Sheffy’s trust and you’ll see his joyful personality grow every day. He’s a happy, loyal boy who loves unconditionally. The lucky family that ends up winning Sheffy’s heart will gain a once-in-a-lifetime best friend. APPLY to adopt this amazing guy at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Sheffy is being fostered in Rochester, MN.
