Story
Meet your new BFF! Pongo is a 31# Border Collie mix born in September 2025. He is a fluffy bundle of heart and humor. With his cuddly coat, curious mind, and delightfully goofy (if slightly ungraceful!) charm, Pongo brings smiles wherever he goes. He has the smarts of a Border Collie and the easy-going love of life of a larger breed dog. We're not sure what he's mixed with, but it would be hard to find a nicer puppy. Pongo’s favorite treasure is his beloved bone, which he proudly carries around the house. He has a medium energy level and enjoys being outside (especially in fresh snow!). Adventures are one of his favorite things: he’s curious, social, and excited to meet new friends of any age. He’s learning to walk nicely on leash and can’t wait to take obedience classes - he heard about the treats! Pongo wants a family committed to continuing his training and socialization so he grows up to be an excellent canine citizen of the world. When unsure, Pongo may bark, but he is easily redirected. Slow introductions and positive experiences visibly build his confidence. Once you see his proud smile and prance for a job well done, you won’t forget it! At home, Pongo is happiest in a calm, settled environment with a predictable routine. When uncomfortable, he retreats to his crate or a quiet space. He does well with kids that can handle a silly large puppy, and lives peacefully with a cat. He gets along great with other dogs when allowed to meet them properly. He could easily be an only dog if he has regular opportunities for playtime and outings with other friendly pups. Pongo is housebroken on a consistent schedule and settles nicely in a crate with a good chew. He would love a fenced yard and is also suited for a family that keeps dogs safe on leash. He is a candidate for invisible fencing with professional training when he's a bit older. He’s a wonderful companion; chill, affectionate, and ready to find a family that wants to include him in everything they do. Could Pongo be your perfect match? APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Pongo is being fostered in Brooklyn Park, MN. Pongo's adoption fee is $550 + MN sales tax. He is up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. He will be neutered at the age of approximately 6 months. The cost of this procedure is included in his adoption fee. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. As a foster-based rescue, we do not have a central facility to visit. Meet and greets with specific dogs are arranged once your adoption application (not an inquiry through Petfinder) has been received, processed, and approved. We are located in Minnesota and adopt to an area 400 miles from Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Story
Meet JJ, an 8-year-old, 40# Border Collie with a heart as soft as his beautiful coat. To meet him is to love him! This tender, gentle and sensitive boy is as easily to live with as it gets. Sweet. Loving. He is looking for a family that wants to pet him, play with his toys, go on walks, and let him follow them around the house with quiet devotion. In return, he is an amazing confidante and companion that brightens every day. JJ’s favorite things are all about connection. He absolutely lights up when told he’s a good, brave boy. He is happiest when settled at your feet. JJ needs a fenced yard attached to his home for exploring and bathroom breaks - he isn’t pottying on lead just yet. He loves his crate, is housebroken, walks nicely on leash and is friendly to visitors. Out in the world, he watches other dogs and people with interest. He may startle at loud noises, but recovers quickly. JJ's foster family asks him to try “one hard thing” each day, understanding that some things (like car rides) are challenging for him... and could be too much that day. They are moving at JJ's pace to build trust, accepting that some days he is just not up to it. All these positive experiences are buildings JJ's confidence in his people and his world. The ideal family for JJ is calm and patient. Experience supporting timid dogs would be ideal. JJ is looking for a home with minimal stairs due to weakness in his rear end (walks and playtime are making him stronger all the time!). He doesn’t need a canine sibling, though a quiet, low-key doggie friend would be fine. An adult home or one with older, gentle kids is a good fit for JJ. We are not sure what he would think of cats. We are looking for a foster or foster-to-adopt home for JJ. APPLY to FOSTER at: hoabcr.org/volunteer-foster APPLY to ADOPT at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt JJ has arthritis and benefits from daily medications and supplements (gabapentin, carprofen and an Omega-3) to help him feel better. The rescue will supply 3 months of medication (approximately $50/mo) to his adopters. He may wean himself off these meds as he gets stronger and more active. JJ is being fostered in Richfield, MN. Paul. We supply our foster and foster-to-adopt homes with all required food, supplies and medication. We hope his fosters will find themselves unable to let him go! In that case, JJ's adoption fee is $250 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention.

Story
Gunnar is amazing. There's no other way to say it! He's a 9 year old, 40# Border Collie that wants to hand his heart to his new family. A gentle soul. Intelligent, sweet, and friendly. He greets new people calmly, with an open heart and eyes that ask “Will you be my friend?” He soaks up affection, snuggling next to you and softly tapping a paw to encourage ongoing pets. His personal heaven is the backyard, where Gunnar rolls in the grass in summer and enjoys sunshine in winter. His contented smile when outside speaks volumes. His foster mom says he is the most well-mannered dog she has ever worked with, which is saying a LOT. He is wonderful with all the dogs he has met, crate trained and also trustworthy safe in the house. He sleeps in the bedroom on a dog bed or in an open crate, but if invited, he will gently snuggle you all night. He walks calmly on a loose leash and loves to see new sights. Gunnar would do best in a low key home with a routine. He was adopted as an only dog and had to come back to us because he missed the presence of another friendly dog in the home. He's never been without a canine sibling... and we want him to have that companionship. Calm, respectful teens who want a friend to help with homework are right up his alley. He will love everyone in his new family with everything he has. Gunnar will be one of the greatest gifts his new family will ever receive. We're saving the "Happy Adoption Day" toy for the day his dreams come true! APPLY to adopt him at hoabcr.org/how-to-adopt Gunnar is being fostered in Shoreview, MN. Gunnar's adoption fee is $350 + MN sales tax. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. His smile is even more amazing after his recent full dental check-up and cleaning. Upon adoption, all of our dogs go to their new homes with a collar and harness, leash, starter food, blanket, favorite toys & treats. They are current on flea/tick and heartworm prevention. Story
Hi, I’m Cap, but my friends call me Dapper Capper. I’m a 4-year-old, 40-pound Border Collie mix with a sharp mind and an even sharper eye for snacks. If you’re looking for an attentive, playful, athletic, intelligent sidekick… you just found him! If we’re being honest, food is my number one passion. After that? Playtime, especially outside. Give me a soccer ball or toy in a fenced yard, and you’ll be amazed at my footwork, delivering it right back to you, as long as it’s the toy I chose! (You should know I’m considering a career in professional fetch, so I’m particular about the tools of my trade.) Around the house, I easily relax and lounge around for a while. After that, I want some action. My perfect family will include me in their active lifestyle of walking or hiking, maybe causal runs. I’m always up for adventures, including eating out with my foster family and a visit to "grandma" in another state! Car rides are amazing and my nose loves new places to sniff around. Sometimes new spaces are a tiny bit scary, but with positive words and maybe some treats, I gain confidence quickly. I’d do best as your one-and-only dog. No kitties, please. I could live with older kids roughly 12+. A herding breed savvy family would be ideal: they will appreciate my unique combination of smarts and playful energy. Training is a breeze – I’m curious and smart. I’m housebroken, crate nicely, know basic obedience commands, and have a nice recall. I’m about 75% trustworthy around counters and trash cans (remember, I LOVE food). If you are looking for a fun-loving, loyal adventure partner who can chill hard and play even harder, I’m your guy. Story
Meet Honey, a 10-year-old, 35# Border Collie with a soft heart, soulful eyes, and the gentle wisdom only a seasoned companion can offer. This sweet, sensitive “country girl” is happiest when life moves at a peaceful pace. Lovingly known as Sweet Pea and Honey Dew, she is a true “people” person. Her favorite place in the world is right beside her human. Honey’s joys are beautifully simple: mealtime (she never misses it!), quiet sniff-walks in the woods, and trotting out to “check the perimeter” of the yard. She adores respectful, easy-going canine friends. We think she would befriend kitties, given her sweet disposition. Afternoons spent snuggling on the couch are her favorite. Her theme song is “I Think I Love You” by David Cassidy: once she bonds, she loves with her whole heart. As a senior girl, Honey's energy is steady and balanced. She’s reliably housebroken, comfortable in a crate for short periods, and wonderful on leash in quiet, wooded areas. Loud noises like traffic and city sounds are frightening for her: she prefers the hush of nature to the rush of cars. Honey would thrive in a rural or very quiet home where she’s accompanied outdoors, not just “let outside”. She’ll happily supervise gardening or peaceful outdoor chores, join a quiet trail walk or relax while you read a good book. Honey would do best in an adult home with a patient, emotionally attuned person or couple who offers affection at her speed. To show her true self, she needs a balance of gentle encouragement, choices, and a sense of partnership, never force. At the same time, she doesn’t want to be coddled. More than anything, Honey is looking for a balanced human who walks quietly on the earth, laughs easily, and returns the deep, steady joy she so freely gives. If you’re seeking a tender-hearted companion for life’s quieter adventures, Sweet Pea is waiting. Honey is being fostered in Minnetrista, MN. Honey's adoption fee is $350 + MN sales tax. She is spayed, microchipped, and up to date on age-appropriate vaccines. Story
3 years old. Divorce & relocation. Zoey is a BEAUTIFUL and wonderful pup with a BIG BIG heart, TONS of energy and needs a loving home where she can be given lots of hugs and love. She is a PLOTT hound first so she is naturally an ALERT dog, who is led by her NOSE and needs strong boundaries and authority. 1. She is cautious around other dogs; but the right dog she will LOVE to play with and buddy up with 2. Cautious around strangers, but will snuggle and love (needy almost) with her "people". 3. VERY protective of her food.
