Story
Finn is a healthy 8 year old Rottweiler. We have had him since he was a puppy. He is calm and enjoys playing outside with balls, watching tv with the family and cuddling. He tends to forget how big he is and tries to fit on laps. Finn lives with another dog and they play well together. Over the last 6 months, he has started being more territorial and has gotten aggressive around food. We have young children in the house and do not want them to inadvertently interrupt Finn when he is eating.

Story
Every minute matters when it comes to rescuing a Shih Tzu.  We may get a short notice that someone needs to surrender their dog or a puppy mill dog needs a temporary home. We can’t help if we don’t have families willing to foster, and we are always in need of more foster homes! If you live in the Minneapolis/Saint Paul area and want to help save lives, please complete either our online Foster Sign-Up or download a word version here: http://www.northstarshihtzurescue.org/foster/ (please note: neither dog pictured are available to foster or adopt, both are in their forever homes) NorthStar Shih Tzu Rescue exists to benefit both Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs and the people of our community. We operate as a no-kill rescue that provides rescue and adoption services, and meaningful outreach programs in order to advance the welfare of these companion animals, to serve and educate our community, and to make a positive, loving impact on the lives of both. NorthStar, located in Excelsior, MN, actively works to rescue Shih Tzu and Shih Tzu blend dogs from dangerous environments and shelters with the ultimate goal of placing them in loving, permanent, adoptive homes. We rescue unwanted, abandoned, and abused dogs. We have them vaccinated, micro-chipped, spayed or neutered, provide other medical care, and rehabilitate them in carefully selected foster homes. We also serve as a resource to our community and all pet owners by providing education and information on the benefits of adopting an animal in need as well as responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, good nutrition, and positive behavior training. We strive to increase public awareness about companion animal overpopulation, commercial breeders, and to offer solutions to end the killing of adoptable animals. We work in alliance with local animal shelters, pounds, other rescue groups, and humane society organizations to ensure these animals are not forgotten. Story
Kylea is a sweet girl learning every day! From her foster:   Kylea is shy and scared at first but when she came out of her shell, we found she loves to be petted and loves lap time.   Very sweet little girl and will be a very loyal dog.  She does best with a routine and repetition to help learn new skills, (she learns best by repeating a behavior.)  She barks when I come home or from upstairs or hears my voice, a happy bark. She sleeps all night in our bed.  Kylea would be best in a home with someone who is home a lot.  No small children but older is fine.   An established dog in home to help teach her how to be a dog. She watches her foster siblings and catches on fast, but still adjusting to a home and  humans.   A calm home is best.  She loves to sleep in her fosters bed, a crate is not recommended, she will chew at the bars.  She has an old jaw injury from where she came from and lost  many teeth during her dental, softer food is best for her.  Toys aren't a favorite of her, loud squeaky toys scare her and bones are not advised with her jaw injury.  She has dry eye, many Shih Tzu's do, and has daily eye meds for it. Leash walking will need to continue to be taught and a yard with a fence is a must, as she is an escape artist. She should not be crated, as she came from an environment where she was in a small crate 24/7. She follows her foster sibling around, this is her way of learning since coming out of the mill, and learns by repetition and seeing what other well behaved dogs do. If you feel Kylea would be a good fit, please apply for her in the link.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 18, 2024, 12:13 am

Story
Meet Drey, the most adorable bundle of joy just waiting to become your new best friend! While he may take a little time to warm up, once he does, you'll discover the sweetest little guy you could ever imagine. Drey's past is a bit of a mystery, and we can only guess at what might have caused his initial hesitation around new people. It's heartbreaking to think about what he might have experienced, especially considering he had a tough encounter with animal control who had to use a catch pole to rescue him. That experience likely added to his trauma. But here's the good news: Drey is making fantastic progress! He's already crate trained and is doing wonderfully on a leash. We're still working on getting him to go potty while on a leash, as he's more comfortable doing his business in our securely fenced 6-foot wood yard. When he needs to go, he'll politely let you know with a few barks or howls. Drey has a playful side that's simply irresistible. He absolutely adores toys, and watching him play with them is an absolute delight! In our commitment to find the best possible homes for our animals, we believe there are a couple of key factors that will help Drey thrive: no young human kiddos in the household and a fenced-in yard. These conditions will set Drey up for success and happiness in his new home. Don't let his initial shyness deter you – Drey is a hidden gem waiting to shine in a loving and patient forever home. If you're ready to welcome this sweet nugget into your life, please get in touch with us. Drey is ready to embark on a new journey filled with love and happiness, and you could be the one to make it happen! While Drey does live with other dogs, he does not have any interest in playing or interactin with them.  He is a loner when it comes to the canines! The perfect home for Drey would be one where there weren't alot of people coming and going as well as his person / people being home more than they are away. If you are looking for a sweet, cuddly, companion and you are an adult with a quiet home that doens't have shared walls ( Drey is a bit of a barker from time to time especially when he meets new people and new dogs ) he would love to meet you! ##1749222##
