Story
Zoey is, in a word, a lazy goofball. She loves to chill and sit around all day, just as she loves going on her two long walks a day. PLEASE READ: Zoey is not good with strangers. Once she has gotten to know you and knows you're not a threat she is the sweetest, calmest dog that just wants all the pets. But if she does not know you she is aggressive and potentially dangerous. Please only reach out if you have experience with dogs, do not have young children, and our willing to work with us to get Zoey acclimated to you before making the full transition. Zoey deserves all the love and care, and unfortunately we cannot provide that for her for various reasons. Please reach out with any questions.

Story
Say hello to Theo, a 2-year-old Australian Shepherd mix with the softest ears and at the sweetest personality. Theo is happiest when hes getting lots of attention, lots of activity, and lots of treats. Theo is afraid of other dogs he doesn't know, so he would thrive in a quieter, rural or suburban home with a fenced yard and few canine neighbors, where he can relax, explore, and not run into dogs around every corner. He has gotten along well with other resident dogs--he just needs a slow, careful introduction period. Hes a classic herding dog wants to be by your side and wants to join you in the garden in the summer and in the garage in the winter. He would do well with an experienced dog owner, and even better with someone who has experience with and love for herding dogs. He is good with all humans, whether friends or strangers, but he is shy at first. Once hes comfortable, Theos true personality shines: *Eager to pleaseand loves to learn*Loves a good stuffed boneor an antlerand isnt a counter surfer*Housebrokenand doesnt see the point of a crate *Enjoys hikesand keeping the yard free of chipmunks*Favorite phrase:Lets go! Theo is currently in Jersey City, NJ, but city life isnt his thing, as close encounters with other dogs make him anxious. When he feels overwhelmed, he will bark or lunge, so in the city he wears a basket muzzle on walks as a precaution to prevent an inadvertent bite from his reactivity or redirection. He has lived with another dog before and might do well with the right match, but hed be perfectly happy as an only pet in a consistent home where he can just be himself. Theo has not been cat tested. If you think your home might be the right fit for Theo, you can learn more or apply through Rogers Rescues. We will happily consider out-of-area adopters for Theo. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our application. Meetings will not be scheduled without an application. Story
Bodie is a typical Great Dane who hasn't had an easy life so far. But all of that changed in Nov. Bodie was found wandering the streets of West Virginia looking for food and a safe place to curl up. He was picked up and taken to the local shelter where he was scheduled to be euthanized because they were (and often face) being completely out of space. He hitched a ride to NJ where he landed in foster care with a family who already have 2 dogs: a 36lb spaniel mix and a 14lb Havanese. Bodie was delighted to be inside and have a full belly. The foster family has children that live in the south, so after a week's respite in NJ, Bodie was packed up, along with the 2 family dogs and hit the road for a 2 week road trip to visit the kids and their dogs. Bodie is a Great traveler. He smoothly shifted from one stop to the next as long as he had his humans in tow. He rides great in the car (although likes to rest his head on your shoulder while riding). We visited a house with a fenced back yard as well as a townhouse where he needed to be leash walked and Bodie handled it all like a champ. He doesn't love his crate as he would much rather be sitting on the couch next to you, but on the few times we weren't able to bring him along he waited in his crate for our return. Bodie has visited 2 separate off leash dog parks where he felt everyone, both human & canine were simply friends he hadn't met yet. The estimation is that Bodie is about 4yrs old. He came into foster care stiff and sore but over time he has loosened up and has started to act more and more playful. He is incredibly affectionate and seems to believe he is "lap dog" size. He thrives on attention and will happily lean into you for hours of pets and cuddles. What Bodie wants most in life is to be where is people are, so if you prefer your personal space, Bodie is not the dog for you. Having a Giant Breed dog is different than even the largest of Golden Retriever or Lab. He can rest his chin on the stove top and currently believes if he can reach the food - he should have the food. We spend some time each day wiping off counters. We think there was a significant amount of time where Bodie didn't know where his next meal would come from, so right now we are feeding him 3cups of dog food, 3 times a day and he still always seems to be hungry. He could stand to put on a few pounds, but we don't want him to put on too much weight as that wouldn't be great for his structure. Because he takes mealtimes seriously, we feed Bodie in his crate in a puzzle bowl so he knows his meals are just for him. That being said, he shows no signs of food aggression and takes treats sitting next to the other dogs with zero issues. We just want him to know he's safe and will always have a full belly. There were some concerns about his hips while he was in shelter so they ran blood work and x-rayed his hips, and everything appears to be where and what it should be. Bodie is a bit of a drooler when he drinks but the only time we "duck for cover" is when he shakes his head just after drinking. We cannot say enough amazing things about Bodie. He is an absolute love bug. But we want his adoptive home to be his final home - so please think carefully if a giant breed is right for you and your household. Our 14lb. Havanese is not a fan of Bodie as he gets stepped when Bodie isn't paying attention. So please consider anyone or animal in your home who might not appreciate Bodie's size. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Bodie will have a loyal companion and friend for life. Are you who Bodie's been waiting to find?       If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our application. Meetings will not be scheduled without an application. Story
Meet Gambit: Our Comeback Kid with the Biggest Heart Gambit is a 9-month-old pitbull terrier mix with a story of survival and a future thats brighter every single day. He was found in West Virginia after suffering heartbreaking abuse and neglect, barely clinging to life. Severely underweight and incredibly weak, Gambit was rushed to a veterinary hospital where a dedicated team fought to save him. Thanks to their care and his own incredible will to live Gambit pulled through. And what a comeback hes making. Hes still working toward his ideal weight, but hes gaining strength and filling out more each day. Because of his traumatic past, Gambit has some nerve damage that causes weakness in his back legs. He can be a little wobbly at times, but dont tell him that it certainly doesnt slow him down! He plays with his toys, romps around with other dogs, and approaches life with pure joy. His veterinarian believes that with continued proper nutrition and regular exercise, his hind legs should grow much stronger. But Gambits true superpower isnt just his resilience its his heart. He is incredibly friendly, super snuggly, and absolutely loves everyone he meets. Kids? He thinks theyre fantastic. New people? Future best friends. He thrives on affection and will happily soak up all the cuddles youre willing to give. He hasnt been tested with cats yet. After everything hes endured, Gambit greets the world with trust, love, and a wagging tail. He doesnt dwell on his past hes too busy enjoying his second chance. Gambit is looking for a family who will continue to help him grow stronger, shower him with love, and remind him every day that hes safe and home for good. If youre looking for a loyal, affectionate, resilient best friend with an inspiring spirit and endless cuddles to give, Gambit is ready to meet you. Make A Difference in your Community - Adopt a Shelter Dog! Would you like to foster a Shelter Survivor? For more information, visit us at www.sheltersurvivors.com THIS IS A COURTESY POSTING – Twix is not in one of our foster homes and we have not met him, we are assisting his owners with finding him a new home. Here are fun facts his owner wants you to know: - Twix / 3yo / Male/ Neutered / 65 lbs / In great health - Mastiff/Herding mix - Up to date on vax since 8/25/25 - Will do best with experienced, active dog owners who would be able to be consistent with good daily habits to strengthen his foundational training. No other animals, no small children in the house. - Has had multiple professional training experiences, all successful. Quick improvements in training sessions. He is passionate about learning. - Housetrained and very communicative about needing the bathroom. Will whine/grumble, give paw or look at door. - He is crate trained and loves his crate. He will crate himself to take naps throughout the day and also will tuck himself to bed when the sun goes down and sleeps through the night. - Not destructive in the home at all, even when left alone. No separation anxiety. - Walks nice on leash! Big sniffer. Knows heel. - Energy level is average/medium. Will match your energy to be very active or a couch potato. Greets with excitement for just a few minutes. - Shines with his family/pack and loves physical and verbal affection. - Total silly playful goofball and sweetie pie who just wants to love. - Loves long walks (hiking and camping), swimming, tug and fetch. - Nervous when not introduced to new dogs and new people but eased with structured introduction or pack walk. 100% success rate when introduced to new people. Selectively reactive with intact males. - No cats is best. He is ok with cats if the cat leaves the dog alone. He lived 2 years with a male cat and they kept to themselves and lived peacefully. - Not socialized around kids. Unknown. - Resource guards around main meals and high value treats, but not with training treats. Very easy to train (food motivated). Does not protect empty bowl. - One bite due to mishandling by his previous owner. The dog was nervous around a stranger and the previous owner did not intro or deescalate then dropped leash. After a professional reactivity evaluation, a trainer assessed him to be safe and not serious about bites. - Previous owner got him as a puppy from a friend’s litter. Story
Make A Difference in your Community - Adopt a Shelter Dog! Would you like to foster a Shelter Survivor? For more information, visit us at www.sheltersurvivors.com This is sweet little Tippy! Tippy is a five pound bundle of love. She is about 8 years old. Tippy was surrendered to us when her owner passed away and her family could no longer care for her. Right before she entered our care, she jumped off of something that was too high for her and she broke her paw. Tippy has completely healed now and she is back to being able to run and play as usual. We have taught Tippy not to jump off of things and to use steps if necessary to get down from higher places. She is so smart and a quick learner. We do not have her go up and down flights of stairs simply because we do not want her to put consistent pressure on her joints or tiny bones. That's fine by Tippy because her favorite place is to be in her foster mom's arms. Tippy was adopted recently, but returned about 6 weeks later. While Tippy is super loving and sweet, she has what we consider a typical Chihuahua personality. She will nip and bite if she is scared or challenged at times. It proved to be too much for her adoptive family and as heartbroken as they were, they did not feel that they could manage Tippy's behavior. We completely understood and Tippy is back with her foster family. She acclimated back into her foster home without any issues. She proved to be the same sweet and sassy girl that she was when she left her foster home. She fell right back into her foster home routines. Tippy spends her time between two foster homes. In one home, Tippy has a little more freedom. She has a large space to roam, but we do not allow her to go up and down stairs (as we stated before). She is with one person in this home and there are no other pets. She loves the low-key life in this foster home. Sometimes Tippy also spends time in another foster home, In this home, there are other dogs that live with her. While Tippy does not mind the company of the other dogs, she does not like when they get too excited. We believe she would do best as an only pet or she would be fine living with another dog or cat that is super chill and tolerant of her big personality. In this home there are also multiple people. Tippy is a typical Chihuahua. She will attach herself to one person and want to be with them. She doesn't mind the other people in the household, but she definitely wants "her person" when that person is home. Tippy is crate trained, but in both homes she has a pen that she sleeps in at night. She sleeps through the night in her pen which is in the bedroom where her foster mom sleeps. She does have a large crate that she stays in in one foster home when her foster mom is away; in the other home she has a larger pen that she stays in. Because of Tippy's size and personality, we are looking for an experienced Chihuahua owner without children. Older teenagers may be okay as long as they will respect Tippy's space when she needs it. Tippy has had so much change in her little life the last few months. She has adjusted so well in each situation, but it's time for Tippy to find her forever home. She needs a Chihuahua savvy family who will understand what she wants or needs. She gives clear signals when she is scared and/or unhappy. Tippy is completely house trained! Which is amazing for a small dog! LOL! Tippy is wee-wee pad trained as well, but usually will do her business outside. She rarely uses her wee wee pad, but we do keep one in her pen for her. She is very clean and neat. She will need a little patience at first when meeting a new person. She can be a little shy. It doesn't take too long for her to understand that you are her friend. Tippy loves to go for walks outside. She also enjoys a good game of fetch. She is spunky, sassy, and sweet and cuddly all in one. If you think that you could provide the loving home that Tippy deserves, please fill out an application for her. Tippy is spayed, up-to-date on vaccinations and house trained. To adopt Tippy, please complete our online dog application by going to sheltersurvivors.com Click on the home page, look for "Application" at the top of the home page, and complete the application. Hit the submit button once you have completed the application in its entirety. This will expedite the adoption process. Adoption Fee: $400.00
