Story
Hi… I’m Timothy. If you look closely at my face, people say I kind of have that Eeyore look going on. Soulful. Thoughtful. Maybe a little bit like I’ve seen some things in life. And honestly… I have. I showed up at a high-kill shelter in Texas in pretty rough shape. My fur was thin, my skin was angry and itchy, and I even had a big lump on my hip that needed to be taken care of. But some really nice people stepped in, fixed me up, and brought me into the NorthStar family. These days I’m feeling a whole lot better and hanging out with my foster mom while I wait for my forever home. I’m about 8 years old and a very respectable 16 pounds — basically the perfect size for walks, couch lounging, and general companionship. Speaking of walks… I LOVE them. My foster mom says I’m perfect on leash, which I personally think deserves a gold star. Now, I’ll be honest with you about something. I’m a little cautious when it comes to people. I warm up slowly. It’s not that I don’t want to love you — I do — it just takes me a little time to believe that new people are going to be kind to me. Other dogs though? Big ones, little ones… I’m cool with them. I actually feel pretty comfortable around my dog friends. Once I start trusting someone, I tend to follow them around the house like a quiet little shadow. I’m not quite a cuddler yet, but my foster mom says she sees progress every day. With patience, kindness, and a little TLC, she thinks I’ll get there. Right now I’d probably do best in a calm home without children while I keep building my confidence and learning that the world is a safe place. If you’re the kind of person who understands that some dogs just need a little extra time to feel secure… I think we might be a really good match. And I promise — once I know you’re my person, I’ll be very loyal. If you’d like to meet me, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and make sure you mention my name — Timothy TX. I’ll be waiting...March 7, 2026, 1:56 pm

Story
Meet Mei Mei!&#226&#128&#168Born in February 2022 and weighing under 15 pounds, Mei Mei is a pocket-sized bundle of happy energy. This sweet girl has one main goal in life: to be close to her people. Whether you’re working, relaxing, or moving around the house, she’ll be right there with you—tail wagging and heart full. Mei Mei is a champion snuggler who loves to curl up on your lap or in a cozy bed. But she’s not a total couch potato, either. When she’s not glued to her foster mom’s side or napping, she loves to sniff around the yard or play with her foster siblings. She does have hip dysplasia, but it doesn’t appear to cause her pain and the vet is not recommending surgery at this time. She gets around well and still has plenty of pep in her step. Check out the video of her taking a walk & see just how well she gets around on leash! Mei Mei is perfectly housetrained, too. On 1/28/2026: Foster mom's update on Mei Mei said she was home alone with the other dogs for about 2 and a half hours this morning and did really well! She wandered and howled a little bit, but no destructive or frantic behavior at all. If you’re looking for a tiny companion with a huge heart, Mei Mei might be your perfect match. She’s ready to shower her forever family with love, loyalty, and endless snuggles. To meet Miss Mei Mei, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention her name, NAC'S MEI MEI TX!March 7, 2026, 1:56 pm

Story
When a mama dog was run over by a car, leaving behind puppies, a rescuer stepped up to save the little ones.  First up is Cashew. He IS a little nut, but he’s sweet and tender too! He was the one puppy of the four that hid so well, he almost wasn’t saved. He came to me several hours after the other three, after the second search. He is the biggest. He is also the one with the most tender heart who takes the word NO!! most seriously (if only for a minute), the one most EAGER for interaction, the one who is most excited to have a person playing with him. DNA results for the pups came back saying they are mostly Chihuahua and Cattle Dog. Cashew weighed in at 11.2 pounds on 2/2 but we expect the dogs to weigh 18 to 31 pounds when fully grown. If you are interested in giving Cashew a home, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention his name!     March 7, 2026, 1:56 pm

Story
If you’re looking for a loyal sidekick, the Joey is your guy. We think this gorgeous, tricolor male could be a cross between an Australian Shepard and an English Shepard, both of which are very intelligent breeds. He would be the perfect dog for someone who works from home. Joey walks well on a leash, even though he pulls a bit, and rides well in a car. Joey gets along well with other dogs and loves to play with the dogs in his foster home. Joey would make a great hiking buddy as he is always ready for an adventure. He was picked up as a stray and is guesstimated to be between 3-5 years old. Due to his activity level, we think he is closer to 3 years old. Joey has been neutered, is to up to date on vaccinations and is microchipped. Unfortunately, Joey did test positive for heartworms. Since he is asymptomatic for heartworms, he is on the slow kill method to eliminate them, and he should test negative in a year or two. In the meantime, he can live life normally without any restrictions. Joey’s adoption donation is $450 which includes the $165 transport fee. Joey is being fostered in Arkansas. If you would like to adopt Joey, please fill out an adoption application. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.
