Story
Timothy showed up at a high kill shelter in Texas in really bad shape. His fur was really thin, his skin was inflamed, and he had a big mass on one of his hips. Fast forward, all of those issues were addressed and he joined the Northstar family. He is settling in with his Texas foster mom. She says he loves going for walks and is perfect on leash! Timothy is 8 years old and weighs 16 pounds. Timothy always has a soulful look on his face, almost like Eeyore. He is slow to warm up to people but quickly takes to other dogs, big and small. He follows his foster mom around - but isn’t a cuddler yet. (With more time, we think he will get there.) He is cautious around people he doesn’t know and needs extra time to get comfortable. It’s like he is a tad suspicious - worried that new people aren’t going to be nice to him. But with time and lots of TLC, we are sure he will come around. At this point, Timothy doesn’t need to be in a home with children, but that could change as he learns that there are lots of nice people in the world. If you'd like to help out Timothy, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention his name.December 10, 2025, 7:07 pm

Story
When a mama dog was run over by a car, leaving behind puppies, a rescuer stepped up to save the little ones.  First up is Cashew. He IS a little nut, but he’s sweet and tender too! He was the one puppy of the four that hid so well, he almost wasn’t saved. He came to me several hours after the other three, after the second search. He is the biggest. He is also the one with the most tender heart who takes the word NO!! most seriously (if only for a minute), the one most EAGER for interaction- the one who is most excited to have a person playing with him. DNA results for the pups came back saying they are mostly Chihuahua and Cattle Dog. Cashew weighed in at 7.4 pounds on 12/30 but we expect the dogs to weigh 18 to 31 pounds when fully grown. If you are interested in giving Cashew a home, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention his name!     January 12, 2026, 7:15 pm

Story
Meet Flint! This charming gentleman was discovered roaming the streets of rural Texas before finding his way to a warm local shelter. While his past remains a mystery, it’s clear that he was once loved and well-cared for. Flint is truly one of the most grateful pups you could ever meet!   At around 9 years old, this wonderful guy has unfortunately been overlooked by potential adopters at the shelter. But here’s the best part: the shelter manager recognized Flint’s special qualities and reached out to NorthStar, hoping to find him a loving home. Although Flint has only been with NorthStar for a short time, his foster family can already see how perfect he is!   Flint quickly mastered the doggy door and is a champ at taking himself out for potty breaks. He previously spent time in a temporary foster home where he mingled with cats and dogs of all sizes and he did wonderfully with everyone! Are you seeking a dog who knows how to show appreciation? Well, look no further—Flint is your guy! He loves to spread the love with sweet, periodic kisses.   This laid-back fella enjoys relaxing around the house and is always up for a movie night! While Flint is crate trained, he might express a bit of discontent when it’s time to settle in, but don’t worry—he settles down nicely after a few minutes. Flint would thrive with someone who has plenty of time to devote to him, whether that’s a retired person or someone who works from home.   Although we don’t have specific information about his exposure to children, his foster believes that Flint would happily share his affection with little ones. Could Mr. Flint be the perfect addition to your family? Don’t wait—apply today to meet this amazing pup! Flint will be coming to NJ to find his perfect fit. If you are interested in meeting this sweet senior boy, please complete an adoption application and be sure to ask for him by name - FLINT TX!       January 24, 2026, 4:54 pm

Story
Meet Mei Mei!&#226&#128&#168Born in February 2022 and weighing under 15 pounds, Mei Mei is a pocket-sized bundle of happy energy. This sweet girl has one main goal in life: to be close to her people. Whether you’re working, relaxing, or moving around the house, she’ll be right there with you—tail wagging and heart full. Mei Mei is a champion snuggler who loves to curl up on your lap or in a cozy bed. But she’s not a total couch potato, either. When she’s not glued to her foster mom’s side or napping, she loves to sniff around the yard or play with her foster siblings. She does have hip dysplasia, but it doesn’t appear to cause her pain and the vet is not recommending surgery at this time. She gets around well and still has plenty of pep in her step. Check out the video of her taking a walk & see just how well she gets around on leash! Mei Mei is perfectly housetrained, too. On 1/28/2026: Foster mom's update on Mei Mei said she was home alone with the other dogs for about 2 and a half hours this morning and did really well! She wandered and howled a little bit, but no destructive or frantic behavior at all. If you’re looking for a tiny companion with a huge heart, Mei Mei might be your perfect match. She’s ready to shower her forever family with love, loyalty, and endless snuggles. To meet Miss Mei Mei, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention her name, NAC'S MEI MEI TX!January 28, 2026, 12:00 pm

Story
Ms. Lady is a gorgeous Great Pyrenees mix who is super sweet, friendly with people and dogs and who would probably would be fine with cats because of her easy-going disposition. She is crate trained and housetrained but could use more leash training - she is rarely leashed as she has a big beautiful backyard to run around in her foster home in Texas! She is very low maintenance, low to medium energy,  and is in a foster home with 30 other dogs - she had that easy going, typical Pyr personality. Lady is about 4 years old and weighs 68 pounds. She is already fully vetted and she's healthy, heartworm negative, has no tick borne diseases and is on monthly preventatives, etc.   Lady is just happy to be in a home where someone is treating her well and she does not have to worry about where her next meal is coming from. She came into a Texas shelter with another Pyr mix (possibly her brother) - both were owner surrendered because the owners were letting them run loose and they did not want to pay the fine. The brother went to a local Austin rescue and Lady is now with NorthStar. If you've always wanted to have a Great Pyrenees in your family, just fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org and ask to meet this sweet and gentle gal! The adoption fee for Ms. Lady will be $425. December 12, 2024, 7:37 pm

Story
His name is Carolyn's Nickels … or is it Mister George?? Let us explain. This sweet, soulful boy came into our lives with the name George. But we already had too many Georges (seriously, it’s a thing), so we gave him a fancy new name for adoption purposes to help him stand out. And while the name may be different, the dog underneath is still 100% George: loyal, loving, sensitive, and just a little bit goofy in the best possible way. George is about 5 years old and weighs around 25 pounds. George is such a unique guy that his foster parents actually did a doggie DNA test!  Based on his unique looks, it was no surprise when they learned his most prevalent breed was.....SUPERMUTT!  Check the photo of his breed results to see the rest his breeds. . George gets along beautifully with other dogs — he’s currently living with five, and it’s nothing but wagging tails and shared toys. He doesn’t guard food or toys, and he’s not a barker (unless he sees something that is really interesting, and then you’ll get a litte woof here and there.  George is house-trained, crate-trained, and sleeps soundly through the night — either snuggled next to your bed or curled up right beside you, if you’re the “dogs on the bed” type. He’s also amazing in the car — calm, quiet, and happy to be along for the ride.  As a matter of fact he LOVES it and accompanies his foster dad to dunkin donuts where he gets a couple little treats if he's a good boy (and he's always a good boy!) George walks nicely on leash and loves his toys, but what really sets George apart is his heart. He can be shy in new situations — the kind of dog who freezes or gently steps back when he’s unsure — but he doesn’t panic. He just needs a moment. And when you give him that moment, something beautiful happens: he leans into you with full trust. And once you earn George’s trust, you’ll never walk alone again. George doesn’t absolutely *need* another dog in the home, but he really really excels and thrives in a pack, so if you're looking to add another to your own pack, this might be the guy for you.  George is ready to find his person. The one who sees past the name and into the kind, quirky, deeply loving dog behind it. If that sounds like you, apply at www.northstarpets.org — and don’t forget to mention George (aka Carolyn's Nickels … it’s complicated, but he’s worth it).November 14, 2025, 4:49 pm
