Story
Meet Ferrah!!! One day (for reasons we can't see) this sweet girl was dumped on the streets in a small town in Georgia. That was the day her old life of having a home ended and her new life of living on the scary, cold streets began. Ferrah was found on a street corner by a sweet soul who her picked her up. She was taken to the local animal shelter to see if her owners could be located (because seriously....who would dump this beauty????) but sadly she was not microchipped nor wearing tags. Deep South Canine Rescue was contacted and of course, couldn't help but try to find this girl a home. Many different attempts were made to find her owners but no one came forward to claim her. She has been with the rescue for over a year waiting for the perfect person to give her a forever home. She is energetic and would do great in a household with older children due to her tendency to greet with a jump or two (she just LOVES spreading love!!). Farrah needs an active family who will have time to play, take her for a hike or throw the ball. Our founder, Pam, has been working with Farrah to ensure she will be a good fit for the right family. At first, Ferrah was "street trained" but now.....she is "Deep South Trained"!!!! She is crate trained and housebroken as well as leash trained. If you think Farrah would be a great match for your home, please fill out an application at: https://deepsouthcaninerescue.com/adoption-application. Ferrah can't wait to hear from you!!!!!

Story
Have we got a Dutch treat for you! This silly, 16-month-old boy (as of July, 2023), might have had a lonely start to life, but man-oh-man is he ever making up for lost time! After finding himself at the age of 6 months behind bars at the Devore animal shelter, Dutch was rescued and has been keeping his foster mom on her toes and laughing ever since. He is an active and playful Shepherd mix. Dutch recently completed an obedience training course at Corcha Balanced K9 and came through with flying colors! He knows all his commands and any adopter has the support and guidance of Corey and Cynthia, his trainers who think he is a rock star dog. This boy is the physical embodiment of “everything, everywhere, all at once”! Are we going for a walk in the rain—yay! Are we playing chase with our canine foster sisters—yay! Are we going for a ride in the car-yay! Are we just gonna cuddle on the couch—well, you get the idea. There’s really not much that Dutch doesn’t enjoy, and his enthusiasm is contagious! Because of his working breed background and high intelligence, Dutch is a fast learner and very eager to please. We think he’d do best in an active home with a good leader, where his zest for life will really shine. A canine companion would be great, but as long as he has doggy friends, it’s not a deal breaker. So whaddya say, wanna go Dutch? Dutch is fully vetted and very healthy. He is crate trained and potty trained.

Story
Hello everyone!! Meet Bruno! This is a special little dude. Bruno's story is a sad one, but you can complete his story and make it wonderful! Bruno was found by a kind soul in a small town in Georgia. He was originally noticed in a small dog crate sitting in someone's back yard. The crate had no roof or cover and he was found in the middle of winter. There was also no floor mat or walls in the crate so he was on the bare ground and exposed to any wind/rain :( The kind soul kept her eye on him and feeling heart broken for him, she decided to sneak into the back yard to see what she could do for the dog. She found that Bruno had no water or food bowl in the crate with him. It had been raining at that time, so it's assumed he was drinking rainwater. She began sneaking into the backyard daily to feed him and give water. She reports that he was basically skin and bones and scared to death. It was a horrible situation. After some time passed and the temperatures kept getting colder and colder, she worked up the nerve to confront the home owner. Turns out, Bruno was originally purchased as an emotional support animal but over time, he was forgotten. She asked the owner to surrender Bruno to her and that's where his happy ending began! He was brought under the fold of Deep South Canine Rescue to a foster home and received a warm kennel with plenty of hay for bedding, plenty of tasty food and treats, toys and clean water each day! No more cold winter nights. No more rain pouring over him. NO more neglect! He was taken to the vet where he was found to be positive for heart worms BUT HAS BEEN TREATED FOR HEARTWORMS ALREADY while at his foster home. BRUNO WILL NEED AN EXPERIENCED ADOPTER WHO UNDERSTANDS HIS BACKGROUND AND HAS PATIENCE. IT IS ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT HE BE PLACED IN A HOME WITH NO SMALL CHILDREN AND PREFERRABLY LIVE IN A SINGLE DOG HOME. This guy is probably one of the smartest dogs we've ever seen! He is SOOOO sweet once he trusts you. With his history, he doesn't trust people easily (can you blame him?) .... but once he does....WOW! JUST WOW! He is the most loving and caring dog. He CRAVES human affection and LOVES to please his "person". However, he is food aggressive. It is recommended that Bruno be allowed to eat by himself. With his history, it's easy to understand why he may be food aggressive but with adequate time and training, this can be corrected. At the foster home, he has never shown aggression towards, bitten or attacked humans at all, but he has curled his lip at other dogs around food. Bruno was evaluated by a highly renowned dog trainer in Georgia and he passed with FLYING COLORS on behavioral issues, activity with other dogs (not around food) and farm animals. He has not been evaluated around cats. At the evaluation, Bruno was very nervous because it was a new area with new people but once he began getting comfortable, he was playing and flirting with the other dogs. It just takes a little more time than usual with Bruno. Once you crack his shell, he is so wonderful and loves like no other. The evaluator recommended no small children only because of his history and to be on the safe side. He is working on his simple commands- sit, stay, heel, down, no, "leave it", etc. He has mastered sit, heel, down and no and is pretty good so far with stay and "leave it". He is also leash trained. This dog is so smart, we just can't let him stop now. With time, attention and adequate training- this is THE DOG you want on your side. Please contact Deep South Canine Rescue for more information and enjoy the attached video!! Thank you!!! Bruno can't wait to meet his new "forever" best friend!!

Story
Hazel is back in rescue searching for her new forever home. This girl was originally surrendered to the rescue due to her owners landlord not letting them keep her. She was adopted and now finds herself back searching for that perfect forever home. Hazel’s information is listed below. If you are interested in adopting please complete an adoption application on our website. www.pawsitivelyfurever.org Name: Hazel Age: ~2 yr Breed: Pitbull Gender: Female; spayed Weight: 50 lbs Hazel is a super loving pup. She loves MEN! They are her favorite people on the planet. She is good with other people, but will be super loyal to any male person she has in her life. She loves being with her people. She will follow you and sit with you in whatever room you are in just to see you. She is good with other dogs and loves playing with her foster siblings. She is in foster with two large breed dogs currently. She loves to run around. She has some energy and would be great with an active family or with a fenced in yard. She likes to play with toys or chew on her bone. She has a goofy, happy go lucky personality. She would do great with a home with strong owners. She needs a leader and looks for direction from her people. She would do best in a home without small toddlers as she is a physically strong dog and does not realize her strength. She is house trained, crate trained, spayed, and up to date on vaccines.
