Story
Hank is an 20month old Golden Doodle who would love a little TLC. When Hank got off the transport vehicle his back end looked a little unusual/weak, so we took him to the vet to get checked out. X-rays show Hank has hip dysplasia in both his back hips. While he has an interesting gait, it doesnt seem to cause him pain or slow him down at all. The vet recommends Hank take a daily supplement called Dasuquin which is a joint supplement, to help protect his hips. It is not a prescription, and you can get it online at Chewy or Amazon. He is likely to need surgery at some point in his life, but it's not recommended right now. While we do have some information about his background, we dont know whether he spent a lot of time in a crate or how much exercise he got throughout his growing years to really stretch out those legs. In the 2 months he has been in foster care he is only in his crate to sleep at night and an hour or 2 during the day and his legs seem to be stronger than when he arrived. Our hope is that with daily, consistent exercise, and the Dasuquin joint supplement Hank will continue to thrive. Hank also has been having some trouble with housebreaking/incontinence. With a strict schedule he's doing better, and we're looking into all medical answers we can find. But it's possible that his humans will always have to be on a strict schedule and prepare for accidents. Hank is a big goofy teenager who sometimes forgets his size. He likes to play with other dogs and has managed well in the crazy chaos of dogs in his foster home, but we think hed prefer a home where he didnt have to shove his way in to get all the pets hed like to have, so 1 or maybe 2 other dogs would be plenty for him. Hank likes to chase the ball (although hes not great about always bringing it back) but based on his hips, the vet thinks daily walks or hikes are much better for Hank than chasing a ball or frisbee. Hank Loves toys, bones, chews & treats. In fact, the only time we see Hank get a little overwhelmed is when all the dogs in the house get riled up at once. Hank will back up and bark a handful of times to get his frustrations across. If a human is nearby and can take 30 seconds to rub Hanks ears and tell him its ok, Hank settles right down. If we dont respond, he likes to pick up dog beds and trash them around. Its not in anger it just seems that he needs to get out that overwhelming feeling. Hank rides great in the car and sleeps in his crate at night. He would much prefer to sleep on the couch or in the room with his humans, but he doesnt get that privilege until hes reliably house broken. While he is listed as a Golden Doodle we assure you that, like many "doodles," he sheds. If your interest in a doodle includes the low to no shedding feature Hank is not your man. The flip side is that it doesnt look like he will require as frequent grooming (haircuts) as a typical doodle because his wiry fur doesnt grow as fast and doesnt seem as likely to mat. While Hank is an absolute sweetheart, he is a 80lb baby who is still fairly mouthy so while we think he would be good with kids, they would need to be relatively sturdy and dog savvy so Hank doesnt knock them over. Hank is a super sweet pup who is looking for a soft, patient place to land. He would love to become a part of a family who is looking for an upbeat, positive, furry friend. If it sounds like Hank is what youve been looking and waiting for, put in an application at Rogersrescues.com. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our application. Story
If you're a labrador enthusiast who has cherished black, yellow, chocolate, or silver labs, then you're in for a treat with our "Limited-Edition" lab, Blue!! This unique 3-year-old, 63-pound Labrador Retriever and Blue Heeler mix possess a distinct charm that sets him apart from the traditional single-color labs. Despite being a bit overweight, Blue's ideal weight of 55lbs aligns with the typical medium-size lab standard. Blue found himself in shelter after his owner was hospitalized, this sweet boy waited patiently in shelter for his owners return, but his owner couldnt take care of him anymore. Rogers Rescues saw this beautiful soul and we're determined to help this sweet soul find a new loving home. Blue embodies all the classic traits of a lab, from his head to his body build and personality, yet he boasts a unique appearance with his striking Blue Heeler fur, Bentley mark, and Honeybee tail. He barely shows any herding traits, so if you are looking for a high-drive herder, he is not your pup. He has typical labs personality, super easy-going, chill, happy-go-lucky, theres no stranger in his world and his tail never stops wiggling. He is fully house-broken, crate-trained, loves car rides and doing well with other dogs! He is a perfect combination of playfulness and chillness, he is super good at entertaining himself with toys, and then he is happy to spend the rest of the day sleeping soundly by your side (be prepared for some loud snoring!). We think he might not have many chances to go for walks in his previous home, he may need some leash training due to his excitement during walks. Blue is a low-maintenance dog who thrives on simple pleasures: sunbathing, toys to play with, humans to hang out with, and a comfy bed to snooze in. Whether you're a family looking for a friendly companion or a household seeking a laid-back addition, Blue fits the bill perfectly. Blue awaits a second chance at happiness with open paws. Consider opening your heart and home to this lovable pup today! Blue is currently fostered in Plainsboro, NJ. If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our application. Story
Blake is a good-natured, handsome 10-year old Beagle. He is approx. 27 lbs. He is so trusting, affectionate and sweet with everyone that you could never tell that he spent almost every day of his 1o-years chained in the yard of his owners house. He was surrendered when the owners were ordered to provide some kind of shelter for him. That was the best thing that could have happened to Blake because he got the medical care he needed at the shelter and then made a trip up to PA to his foster home. We are determined to find the perfect forever family for him, one that will give him the love and care that he so deserves. Blake is quite active considering his age! He loves going on walks and running around the backyard. He hasn't yet figured out what toys are, so he sniffs them but then walks away. He is so good with our dogs but a little socially awkward in that he doesn't pick up on cues to back away. When the resident dogs eventually growl to warn him off, he just walks away. He will settle on the couch to nap and sleeps soundly through the night. He does very well in the crate. If you are looking for a sweet, lovable, inquisitive, fun-size dog with the perfect energy level then Blake is the guy for you! Don't let his age fool you, this guy has plenty of life left and he is determined to enjoy every minute of it! Please submit an application if you are interested in Blake. Story
Hello, future fur-parents! Get ready for a dose of charm, a sprinkle of playfulness, and a whole lot of doggy affection with Poppy, the 4-5 year-old pup stealing hearts! If you want a dog who will let you wrap your arms around her and give her hugs, this pup is for you! What makes Poppy stand out? Well, let us tell you! Poppy is the reigning champion of carrying toys around in her mouth, and occasionally hiding them in her crate or giving them a tour of the Great Outdoors (aka her foster family's backyard). Whether it's a game of fetch or a cozy cuddle with her favorite stuffed animal, she's your go-to playmate. Brace yourself for lotttts of affection Poppy knows she's adorable and will shamelessly request for pets and belly rubs whether or not your hands are available. She might be happiest as the only pup in town, with a heart big enough for all the love you can give. Poppy is quite the fashionista, and is currently rocking a unique reverse mohawk, since she's missing some fur on her back. It's growing back, and our vet gave her a clean bill of health the mystery hair loss only adds to her intrigue. Like any proud Aussie, Poppy can be a little vocal, especially while playing or when expressing her opinions. Poppy doesn't bite but can be a bit mouthy when she's in the zone or sharing her thoughts, so we recommend a home without small children for a seamless match. Unlike most Aussies though, Poppy has a pretty moderate energy level and will hang out with you while you watch TV or work from home, but loves if you'd be willing to take her for a short walk first. Poppy is crate-trained and ready to be the queen of her cozy castle when you're away, but she's trustworthy enough to be left out of the crate, as long as you don't leave out food for her to sneak away with. Poppy is fully housetrained and is good on a leash, but may pull a little sometimes when she's excited.Poppy also passed the cat test at the shelter, though her foster family hasn't had any cats for her to charm or check out her behavior with. Poppy can be a bit skeptical when it comes to some new things, so she does well with folks who can be patient and take the time to earn her trust and show her that things aren't so scary. She's a quick learner though and once she knows it's safe, she's a confident pup. When she arrived to her foster home she was very sure that brushes were bad and scary, and with some trust and patience, she's now pretty comfy being brushed. She's still on the fence about baths, car rides, and seeing the vet, but her foster family thinks she'll get more comfy over time. Ready to embark on a journey of love, laughter, and a touch of whimsy with Poppy? This one-of-a-kind furball is waiting for her forever home, and it could be yours! Come meet Poppy, and let the adventures begin! If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our application. Meetings will not be scheduled without an application. Story
Are you ready to add a burst of love and joy to your life? Keri is the doggy companion you've been dreaming of! This sweet girl looks like a short and solid mix of bulldog and rat terrier, with a heart as big as her adorable ears. Despite her past experiences, Keri is a sweetheart through and through. In rural Louisiana she survived heartworm, neglect, and being dumped with her babies when she was still a baby herself. But don't let her past define her - she's all about embracing the present and looking forward to a brighter future. At approximately 2 years old, Keri is happy, healthy, and full of energy and enthusiasm, making her the perfect partner for all your adventures, whether it's hiking in the great outdoors or cuddling up for a movie night at home. One of Keri's most endearing qualities is her affectionate nature. She absolutely adores people and thrives on human interaction. With her wagging tail and irresistible (slightly crossed) eyes, Keri has a special talent for melting hearts wherever she goes. She's also incredibly smart and eager to learn, making training a breeze. Shes fully housebroken, with excellent house manners. She may be a bit shy at first, but once she warms up to you, you'll quickly see her playful and affectionate side shine through. Her endearing criss-cross gaze just adds to her charm! Keri has a special affinity for her canine friends and absolutely adores most other dogs. Whether it's romping around the yard or snuggling up for a nap, she's happiest when he's surrounded by canine companions. Shes ok with cats and farm animals too, the shelter says she ignores them. Due to her timid nature, Keri would do best in a home without young children, where she can feel safe and secure as she continues to build her confidence. If you're ready to open your heart and home to this lovable bundle of fur, come meet Keri today. With her contagious zest for life and unwavering loyalty, she's sure to become an irreplaceable member of your family. Adopt Keri, and get ready for a lifetime of tail wags, slobbery kisses, and unforgettable memories! If you are interested in adopting a dog, please fill out our application. Story
Tiki comes to us from the island of Saint Martin, where she was surrendered, along with her brothers and sisters in a bucket! She is what is commonly and affectionately called a Coconut retriever. Which is a nice way of saying a mixed breed. She is about seven months old and will soon be spayed. She’s a friendly girl, active and playful. She would do well with an active family. Another dog would be icing on the cake. Tiki, as with all puppies, would benefit from some positive training. She gets along very well with the two resident dogs. She seems to like children, but until properly trained would be better with older children rather than toddlers. If you’re looking for a fun loving furry family member, tiki may be your girl!
