Story
Venus is a beautiful and super sweet 6 year old black lab. It’s very heartbreaking to our family that we have to find a new home for her. Venus loves children, walks, playtime, kisses and other dogs as long as the dogs aren’t aggressive. Venus will also be heartbroken to leave our family and patience and understanding is required as it will take her time to adjust to a new environment. We would prefer Venus to stay somewhat local to us.

Story
I love my dog with all of my heart. He just is not happy in the conditions we are in right now. My job requires me to work 12 hour night shifts and I am not home for long periods of time. I also have other dogs as well as cats, he can be territorial around other male dogs and will growl but for the most part is okay. He does not do well with cats, he has accidentally killed one of our cats and maimed another by the mistake of a pet sitter while we were on vacation. I want the best for my dog, he needs someone who will be home with him often and can cater to his high energy/has a good yard for him to run in. He is such a good dog, he loves attention and will be right at your feet ready for whatever adventure you are. He should be in a home without cats/chickens small animals as he loves to chase and snap our chickens and doesn’t do well with our cats. He loves going for hikes, he howls with fire truck sirens, he loves to run around in the yard and loves being outdoors.

Story
Riley, thought to be born in January or February of 2015 is a tricolor, smooth coat collie/border collie mix with some brindle markings on his legs. He has experienced 2 failed adoptions. He was adopted from us when he was about 6 months old and was returned to us 3 years later when the male member of the adoptive family, who had Alzheimer’s, became abusive toward him. In time he began developing his self-confidence again and began to lose his fear of men. Even though he was still somewhat leery of men he didn’t know, he would actually seek attention from men with whom he was familiar. He got along well with the dogs in his foster home but he behaved aggressively toward any new foster dog that periodically come in. He is not good with cats as he showed aggression toward the clinic cat at our vet’s office. Riley was adopted a second time, but after a year of trying different techniques to manage Riley’s difficult behaviors his second adopter felt that she could no longer handle him and once again Riley was returned to us. He left us weighing 55 pounds and returned, markedly overweight, at 78 pounds. He is now back to a healthy weight. Riley has had extensive training. He is quite smart and learns quickly. He rides well in a car and walks well on a leash unless he meets a dog while out on the walk, in which case he will pull and act aggressively. Riley is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, is heartworm negative and is being kept on heartworm and flea and tick prevention to maintain his good health. Riley is currently in Arkansas. His adoption donation is $415 which includes the $165 transport fee. If you would like to adopt Riley, the first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in

Belgian Malinois German Shepherd Dog

Female, Adult
Boonton, NJ
Size
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Details
Good with dogs, Needs special attention, House-trained,
Story
Ash is 3-4 year-old Belgian Malinois mix weighing 65 pounds who is smart as well as loving. She sits nicely whenever the possibility of a treat comes around and also sits and waits for her meals to be served. She has even taught herself to go to the door when she has to go out. Don’t worry, if you’re not around to see it, she’ll give you a verbal warning. Ash is housebroken and kennel trained, although she prefers a treat or two when entering her kennel. Ash is super sweet and affectionate. She is quick to bond with her human and is a master cuddler and leaner. She is very curious and will want to follow you everywhere you go and watch everything you do. She is a bit of a nervous nelly when it comes to meeting new people and, in true Malinois fashion, she tends to be vocal about her fear. She needs a human who will be understanding and patient with her when it comes to introducing visitors and new friends. Dog introductions should be conducted slowly as well. Ash takes a few days to warm up to her new environment but once she does, her personality shines through. She can run all day in the yard with her furry foster siblings or crash just about anywhere when it’s time to wind down. She loves any and all kinds of toys and will throw them around all by herself. She is an awesome puppy that would bring heaps of love and energy to anyone willing to adopt her. After being rescued from a Texas shelter, NorthStar discovered that Ash has a severe congenital deformity that will lead to congestive heart failure. She will need to be monitored closely for any symptoms (exercise intolerance, coughing, shortness of breath). She is currently on medication for her condition and seeking the care of a cardiologist is recommended. Unfortunately, Ash's longevity will be affected and the doctors feel that she will most likely not reach the age of 5 years. When NorthStar rescued Ash, we never expected that she would have such a short life but we are determined to make what time she has left the best we can. Ash is looking for a very special adopter who will love this sweet girl and give her the care she needs for the rest of her life. Ash has been spayed, microchipped and up to date on her vaccines. The adoption fee for this sweet girl is $425. If Ash's story has touched your heart and you would like to give this girl a loving home, please fill out an application at www.northstarpets.org & be sure to ask for ASH TX. October 20, 2024, 7:09 pm
