Story
Remo is 15 months old all mastiff mix. He loves attention and loves to play. Will do well with older children (teenagers) or no children. He needs a patient owner who will work with him during his teenager stage when mastiffs tend to be stubborn. He would do well with a yard that he can run up and down. Best with someone who has experience with the mastiff breed. Has shown some agression but no biting. Believe aggression stems from Remo being over protective of me. Also, rehoming due to him being obsessed with eating baby wipes and my kids little toys. Worried he might get something stuck. Not asking for any money, willing to rehome for free with the right candidate! We also can supply a cage, bed, toys, and any dog food we have left at the time of rehoming. So if your looking for a big goofy dog and do not have a bunch of baby wipes and kid toys and have patience and time for Remo please reach out!

Story
Mavis is an amazing loving dog! I hate to part with her but I can’t take her to my new home due to her breed and sadly that’s an issue I keep running into. I also don’t have much time for her. I want her with people that will love and care for her. I don’t want money or anything for I just want her with a good family

Story
I took Odie in from an old friend that was keeping him in one room due to litter syndrome with his brother. They had 2 other dogs also that I was told he got along with. I realized that Odie needs more attention than I can offer him. I work alot and he deserves someone that can be home more often. I also has an issue walking and if he gets excited and decides to run after something I risk falling. He is afraid of new people but gets attached easily. He can be playful and also enjoys laying next you on the couch. He was afraid of my cat at first but seems to be warming up to him. He does not chase him, he just looks at him. My cat has eaten dog food out of Odies bowl while he was eating and it did not bother him. He does not pull his leash. He waits for me to open the door to go out. Then he will wait for me to go up or down the stairs. He stays right by your side when walking. He barks constantly when he is left alone.

Story
Meet Elvira — “V” for Victory! 🐾 The “V” in Elvira’s name stands for Victory — because this brave girl has truly gone from victim to victor. V’s journey is one of tragedy and triumph. She is a survivor of abuse and neglect who has shown incredible resilience every step of the way. V came to the North Smithfield Animal Shelter after an anonymous call prompted a welfare check. Following an investigation in collaboration with North Smithfield Animal Control, Burrillville Animal Control and the North Smithfield Police Department, V was taken into safe custody and received immediate veterinary attention thanks to our friends at the North Smithfield Animal Hospital and Friends of North Smithfield Animals Shelter. Thanks to the generosity of our friends at the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, she was lovingly cared for until she regained her strength and was ready to return to the shelter. During that time, her previous owner was arrested and charged with animal cruelty. Now safe and thriving, V is learning what it truly means to be a dog — something she’s been discovering for the first time in six years. She will proudly greet you with her beloved “stuffies” and a big, joyful smile. She’s steadily gaining weight and is expected to be about 65 pounds when fully healthy. Given her history, we feel she would do best as the only pet for now so she can fully bond with her person. In time, another furry roommate may be possible — but for now, she deserves to be the palace princess of her home. She is: * Spayed * Vaccinated * Microchipped * Heartworm free * Crate trained * Great in the car * Wonderful on a leash * Up for an active lifestyle * Also a certified couch potato Recently, V spent a weekend away as a “Blizzard Buddy” at a farm, where she soaked in the sights, sounds, and smells of the horses and delighted in meeting every person she encountered. Her joy and curiosity continue to blossom more each day. Does V sound like the companion you’ve been looking for? Call the shelter at 401-766-0377 or email Lgarzone@nsmithfieldri.gov to learn more about adopting this incredible girl. Not ready to adopt? No worries — like and share V’s story to help her find the loving forever home she so greatly deserves. 💕 Want to help with V's medical bills? Story
Ember **Currently Available for Adoption!** Meet Ember! 6 yr./40 lb./Female/Aussie Mix Name: Ember Age: 6 years Weight: 40 lbs Breed: Aussie Mix Status: Brilliant heart seeking confident leader 🔥 About Me: Hi, I’m Ember — sweet, intelligent, and deeply loving. I’m the kind of dog who reads a room in seconds. I’m intuitive with people, kind with everyone I meet, and I truly aim to please. I walk beautifully on leash, crate well, and love being near my humans. My story started with resilience — I was rescued just in time after being found running loose down south. When you grow up making your own rules, it takes a little time to learn structure in a home. The good news? I’m incredibly smart and highly food motivated — which means I LOVE learning and thrive with guidance. I would make a ridiculously amazing working companion. I bond deeply, I follow direction well, and I truly shine when I have clear leadership and purpose. The Important Stuff (Because Clarity Is Attractive 💬) I’m not a dog who can be left to my own devices. If there are no rules, I’ll happily make my own — and while that might sound confident, it’s not ideal in a home. I need structure, consistency, and a handler who understands intelligent, energetic dogs. I love other dogs and even lived with 16 in foster care in Texas. I respect pack order and follow a strong, confident leader beautifully. However, if paired with a push-over dog or adopter, I may try to take charge. Because of this, I would do best as an only pet where I can focus on bonding with my person and continue building great habits. This isn’t about being “difficult” — it’s about being smart and needing direction. With the right guidance, I am truly exceptional. Best Qualities • Exceptionally intelligent and intuitive • Deeply affectionate and people-focused • Walks nicely on leash & crates well • Highly food motivated and eager to learn • Thrives with structure and leadership • Potential superstar working or training companion Ideal Match • Experienced, confident dog owner • Someone who appreciates smart, driven dogs • A structured home with clear rules and consistency • An adopter who wants a true partner — not just a pet • Only-pet household where I can fully shine Deal Breakers • First-time dog owners • Homes without boundaries or consistency • Push-over leadership (I need guidance, not guesswork) • Multi-pet homes where I’d feel the need to manage the pack If you’re drawn to intelligent, driven dogs and believe leadership builds trust… if you want a true partner, not just a pet— Ember could be your spark. And once she trusts you? She won’t just warm your home. She’ll light it up. 🔥🐾

Story
Thelma **Not Available to Be Seen Until Open House in April 2026** Good with Kids & Dogs! Meet Thelma! 5 mos./30 lb./Female/Shar-Pei Mix Name: Thelma Age: 5 months Weight: 30 lbs Breed: Shar-Pei Mix Status: Adventurous, loyal, and looking for her ride-or-die ❤️ About Me: Hi! I’m Thelma — one half of an iconic duo and a puppy with a big heart and an even bigger future. I’m playful, curious, and always ready to explore the world one paw at a time. At 5 months old, I’m still learning all the good dog things like manners, leash walking, and how to be the best companion ever. I’ve got that adorable Shar-Pei charm, a squishy face that melts hearts, and a fun-loving personality that makes every day feel like a new adventure. With love, guidance, and a little patience, I’ll grow into a loyal best friend who’s always ready to ride shotgun in life. Best Qualities: • Playful, happy puppy energy • Smart and eager to learn • Affectionate and people-loving • Always ready for the next adventure • Expert tail wagger My Ideal Match: • A home ready for puppy fun and training • Someone excited to teach me the ropes of being a great dog • A family that enjoys walks, playtime, and adventures • Humans who appreciate a loyal sidekick Deal Breakers: • Couch potato households with no time for puppy energy • Skipping training and structure • Anyone not ready for the fun (and chaos) of puppyhood Fun Fact: I’m named after Thelma from the famous duo — which means I’m basically destined for adventure… but my story ends with cuddles, not cliff jumps.
