Story
Rocky is a very very sweet and loving dog, he loves to play with other dogs and run free outside. He really is a great dog! We are looking for someone who has the time to dedicate to him and a large yard as he loves being outside, rain or shine. He’s the kind of dog that will run with you and play for hours but also be able to cuddle up on the couch with you! He deserves someone or a family that has the time to give him all the attention in the world. He’s is crate trained but prefers to be out and exploring the house or the yard. He gets along well with other dogs but can be a bit timid at first until he warms up to them. He does have a personal vendetta against anything with stuffing so you’ll have to watch for that lol but he grows attached to his beds/ blankets, he also loves toys, especially toy ducks! We hope Rocky can bring you as much joy as he brings us, but we know he deserves better!

Story
Meet Kuzco! Kuzco is a vibrant and playful pup looking for a loving forever home. Kuzco was adopted from our rescue as a puppy and returned four years later because the "kids didn't have time for him." Kuzco has grown into an energetic companion who loves to play catch and run around the yard. He would thrive in a home with a fenced yard where he can enjoy plenty of playtime and outdoor adventures. Channing is the perfect match for a family that enjoys an active lifestyle and can provide him with regular exercise. We were told he loves other dogs; however, since he has been in the kennel environment, he seems particular with his dog friends. He is kid friendly though. He would love the company of older children to play with. When he's not running around, Kuzco is incredibly affectionate and will let you know when he wants some love and attention. He's also a pro at cozying up at the end of the bed or next to you on the couch while you watch TV or read a book. Kuzco is house-trained, responds well to basic commands like sit and stay, and is up to date on his vaccinations. He's also neutered and ready to be your loyal companion. With his loving personality and zest for life. Kuzco is a wonderful dog with so much love to give. If you're looking for an energetic, affectionate, and playful dog to join your family, Kuzco might just be the perfect fit! Complete our online application at animalfriendsva.org and we'll arrange a meet and greet to see if he's the one you've been looking for.

Story
Meet George: A Survivor Ready for a Second Chance & Loves to Cuddle! George didn't have the easiest start. Found as a stray, he was so hungry that he survived on anything he could find—even sauce packets (found in his stomach during his neuter). But those days of starvation are behind him. Though he’s still working on reaching his goal weight, his spirit is bigger than his frame. He is a social butterfly at doggy daycare and gets along great with non-dominant dogs. Because of his history, he’s currently a "student" in training, learning that he never has to worry about his next meal again. He’s looking for a patient family who will celebrate his progress and offer him the unconditional love he’s been searching for. Now that he is in a foster home he is settling in nicely, enjoys his mid-day dog walker and is completely trustworthy left out of a crate. He's ready to be a great addition to any family who's ready to love him. Update: Since being in his foster home, Sequoia, who now goes by George, has shown to be house broken, a couch potato, and knows some commands. This beautiful brindle boy loves sitting on the porch or going on walks and does great while wearing his Gentle Leader. He is very friendly to everyone he meets (old and young) and especially loves smelling leaves on trees or bushes. He is also a good car traveler. George would sit in your lap all day if you let him -- he is a huge cuddle bug and very loving Dane. “Winston” is a 4-year-old, neutered male, brindle, weighing approximately 116 pounds. “Winston” came to us as an owner surrender on 01/22/2026, he had some head shyness when he came in but seems to be getting better about it!! He is a huge love bug and probably one of the best Great Danes we’ve ever had in our facility! The shelter is full and he is so large they have to keep him in the back in their double runs. Story
Meet Maddi (formerly Helen) 🐶✨ Maddi is back with us through no fault of her own. She was returned because her playful, energetic style was simply too much for the senior dog in her previous home. Maddi loves other dogs and has a blast playing — she just plays hard and if she has a canine companion, she needs one who can match her enthusiasm. She is crate and house trained and has learned several commands through training. This fun-loving girl would thrive in an active home that enjoys exercise, playtime, and adventure. Maddi is happiest when she has an outlet for her energy and the chance to do what she loves most: run, romp, and play. The good news? Maddi did wonderfully with the cat in her previous home, showing she can coexist peacefully with feline friends. She’s currently boarding at Animal Friends’ Pampered Paws, where she gets to play regularly — and she absolutely enjoys every minute of it. Maddi is ready for a second chance with a family that understands her playful nature and can give her the active lifestyle she deserves. If you’re looking for a happy, energetic companion who will keep you moving and smiling, Maddi may be the perfect addition to your fur-ever home. 🐕❤️
