Story
Bangles news flash!! On a scale from 1 to 10, my foster mommy and daddy report that my house manners rate a perfect 100 percent - off the charts. I am completely housebroken, not the least bit destructive, relaxed, and quiet. For the most part, I am perfectly content just snoozing away on my bed or keeping you company by your side. In addition, I am a generous kisser and, in turn, appreciate the occasional belly rub. When outdoors, I am more alert and can be a bit wary of new people and dogs. However, after a short walk, I warm up quickly and, over the years, have successfully lived with multiple people and multiple dogs. I really, really enjoy basking in the sunshine - whether it be outdoors or even indoors. When indoors, I actively seek rays of light beaming through the windows and settle on spot where I can capture the warmth of the glowing sun. Sometimes I even move my bed to the sun-filled location - it really is adorable. I love going for walks and have nice leash manners - even my foster mom, who is a bit of a waif (sorry, mom) can walk me with ease and I easily correct, if needed. My foster mom and dad are absolutely smitten with me and welcome the opportunity to share my wonderful, affectionate, and humorous qualities with others. Thank you for your interest in Bangles! Story
River was found as a stray in WV. He was very scared in the shelter and really needed a rescue to step in and help. HART did and he is now in a foster home learning life isn't so scary. River is a very sweet and submissive dog who will need a patient person, or people, with experience with scared dogs. We will also consider people with dog experience and the willingness to work with a scared dog. In his foster home he is very attached to his primary person and is still nervous around other people and new environments. He does best with a lot of structure (leash, crate, schedule and supervision) and the help of a confident dog in the home to lead the way. He will require time to adjust but the effort you put in will definitely come back tenfold in love. He is not aggressive with little ones, but with his current temperament and being scared they may be too much for him. He would do best in a calm, adult only home with a yard and another dog. River is crate trained (you must have treats though) and house trained although sometimes has accidents if left unattended. He is great with his foster brothers but is generally anxious (some dogs don't like this behavior). River is not currently attending adoption events as they are very overwhelming. If interested in meeting him, please fill out an application online. If it's a good fit we may set up a meet and greet at a quiet place. River may require multiple meet-ups so he can feel more comfortable with his potential adopters. Thank you for your interest in River Dog! Questions can be e-mailed to: 'messagemarybeth@gmail.com' PLEASE VISIT THIS WEBSITE TO FIND THE ADOPTION QUESTIONNAIRE: http://www.homewardtrails.org/adopt-a-pet/adoption-forms/ Location: Foster Home IT'S BACK! Our REWARDS Program is launching again and we need your help to promote it. What is it? HT has a number of dogs that need very special homes. These dogs have been failed by humans along the way, leaving them homeless and with issues from their treatment. We'll be honest. Some of them are real jerks. But not always. And not to everyone. Not everyone can be charming ALL the time, right? Others are just fearful and don't like other animals because they have had a bad interaction at some point. Some of them love other dogs but are just plain scared of everything. But all of them are good on the inside. And we believe that ALL of them deserve a chance at life and love. And we're looking to find the right human out there to make that happen. But competition is tough. And they're up against small, well-behaved doggies...so we are offering incentives for special humans willing to give these pooches a chance. WE WANT YOU! ***We are paying $500 to any approved foster or adopter of our REWARDS dogs.*** The human will also get ongoing training support, all supplies covered and a $25 Amazon gift card each month for 6 months. You will learn and grow. You will be doing a world of good for a dog who has really had it rough in life. Our REWARD dog is CAFE: This adorable guy came to us from a rural West Virginia shelter. He's 5.5 years old and full of energy and LOVE OF FOOD! This guy is your guy if you share a love of anything and everything edible. And that makes training with him a blast. Get your hot dogs, your peanut butter, your bacon treats and hit the yard with Cafe. He'll show you just how talented he is - if you pay him in treats. One for Cafe - one for you. Win win. Caf is your forever dog, if you love cuddles on the couch, playing tug-o-war and afternoon walks. With a face like Caf, you can't help but let him hang out and cuddle with you while watching TV. Caf is a medium energy beagle mix dog. He loves being outside whether its sitting in the sun, sniffing around the fence line or sniffing flowers on his afternoon walk. Although, watch out if he sees a squirrel in his domain. You will see his "hunting dog behavior then! The best part of Caf is once his energy is spent on a walk or play session, he will settle down for a nice nap. He's the best kind of work from home dog because he will take care and entertain himself. Caf will make you laugh at his antics, his spinning circles, jumping and tail wagging, when you prepare his meals. He can't contain his excitement when it's time for breakfast or dinner. He is a gentleman and will not steal your food or beg unless it falls on the ground. Its fair game then! He has a great relationship with food, treats and chews. His motivation makes it easy to teach him new tricks/skills. While he would love to hang out with you, he is kennel trained. He is a perfect pick for a low-key couple or family with older children. He does take time to warm up to strangers. No cats or small animals. Cafe needs an adult only home cuz, well, he does not like to share treats or toys with kids. Who can blame him? That makes him perfect for that adult person or couple who wants a four-legged child. Pick him! Pick him! Cafe would love most to be an only dog but can share his space with dogs (not cats) if they don't get on his nerves for limited visits. Cafe keeps getting overlooked. And it bums him out. He's ready to be in a home where he can be his best self. He just needs that right person/couple to give that to him. We'll be there to help you with ongoing training to get the best out of this boy. He's READY FOR YOU! Adoption Coordinator: Mary Beth Maggio Location: Foster Home The adoption fee for this dog is $0. This fee includes spay/neuter and microchip. We are proud to partner with the following veterinarians who offer a free first exam for your animal, exclusively for HT adopters: Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Sunshine Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care and all VCA Animal Hospitals. Additionally, any VCA hospital will cover illnesses up to $250 at no cost to any Homeward Trails adopter.

Story
Ace is playful, snuggly, affectionate, athletic and gorgeous boy. Ace's favorite pastime is following his people around and being by your side. He loves to play tug and vocalize to tell you how much fun he's having. He loves to sprint around in the backyard and he is great at fetching and catching, so a fenced yard would be ideal for him. He is a very well behaved house guest. Ace is housetrained and crate trained, knows all his basic obedience commands, and enjoys a good car ride. He has travelled up and down the east coast with his foster family. He generally walks nicely on a leash. He loves to play with toys but is very respectful of his humans' possessions and does not chew on anything that is not his. Ace was surrendered to a shelter through no fault of his own. He is a sweet dog who previously lived with a family with older children, but his family was unable to care for him. He loves meeting new people on his walks, and will accept visitors to your home without reservation as long as you let him know the person is a friend. He is really human focused: he would be happiest as an only pet, and with Ace by your side, you won't need another one. If you are looking for a handsome, athletic, loving young Amstaff who thrives on your affection and approval, Ace is your guy.Want to see this awesome dog in action? Story
Winkle is doing very well in his current foster home. Like most young labs and lab mixes, he has a lot of energy and needs a fair amount of exercise. He is playful with his foster brother and enjoys active play. He loves to retrieve balls in the yard as well as chase squirrels. He is very sweet and loving. Winkle knows sit, stay, down, off and come. He also will sit patiently and give you each paw while you clean or dry his feat. He is housebroken and crate trained and does very well in his crate overnight. Winkle is apprehensive when new people first enter the home and needs a patient person who will work with him. He adjusts quickly after his initial barking reaction. He walks well on the leash but needs coaxing to get in the car and is making good progress. He needs to be in a quieter home without children or teens running around and a fenced yard to run around and play in. He is very patient with other dogs, and would do very well in a home with another active dog. He was in a home with cats and did very well. Thank you for your interest in Winkle! For questions, email adoptioncenter@homewardtrails.org. HOW TO MEET THIS DOG: Taco Dan is at our Adoption Center in Fairfax Station. It is open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can also meet him by appointment by completing the adoption questionnaire and emailing adoptioncenter@homewardtrails.org. LOCATION: Adoption Center, Fairfax Station ADOPTION COORDINATOR: Adoption Center, adoptioncenter@homewardtrails.org ADOPTION FEE: WAIVED! I'M PART OF THE REWARDS PROGRAM AND MY ADOPTION FEE IS WAIVED. WE WILL ALSO PAY MY FOSTER OR ADOPTER $500. HT has a number of dogs that need very special homes. You will learn and grow. You will be doing a world of good for a dog who has really had it rough in life. HOW THIS ANIMAL IS WITH: KNOWN WITH DOGS: Taco loves to play with dogs and have playdates but would do best as the only dog in the home. KNOWN WITH CATS: Taco has been scared of all of the cats he has met so he would prefer a home where he's the only pet. KNOWN WITH KIDS: Taco needs a quiet adult-only home because kids can be a little stressful for him. KNOWN COMMANDS: Oh so many! Sit, down, stay, touch, paw/shake, place, speak, whisper, leave it, up (to get in the car), in (to go in a crate), and many more! He knows his name and to check in with his handler during walks. KNOWN HOUSEBREAKING &/OR CRATING: Taco Dan settles well in his crate for a good nap, it's his safe space. He also appears to be housetrained. KNOWN LIKES: Tacos, posing for pictures, going for walks, wading in shallow water, tacos, learning new tricks, treats, cuddling with his favorite people. KNOWN DISLIKES: Strangers are a little scary. ABOUT THIS ANIMAL: Is there anything better than a Taco? We didn't think so! He may have an over-the-top name, but Taco Dan wouldn't have it any other way. Legend has it he got his name because he's as irresistible as a platter of tacos, but we know he has stories he could tell. Originally from West Virginia, Taco takes getting to know people very seriously. While you may consider that an old-timey value, TD (as his friends call him) certainly doesn't. He wants to take time to get to know you and for you to get to know him. The better your relationship, the more of his playful and soft side he'll show you. For example, upon meeting him, you might not know he loves belly rubs and the ladies. You have to work to earn his trust, but once he's let you in, he'll never get enough belly rubs. Once you've built that relationship, he'll even let you dress him up as an actual taco! What's more - he's one of our smartest dogs. He knows so many tricks and skills he'd love to show off to you. So why is he a REWARDS dog? Taco is looking for a quiet adult-only home (one or two humans) where he'd be the only animal (believe or not, he's scared of cats). He would do best in a single family home or townhouse where he'd have direct access to outside (shared hallways are scary!). He's good on leash but a super busy neighborhood might be a little too much for him if the sidewalks are too crowded. And we saved the best part for last - he's internet famous. Or at least he's trying to be. You can check him out on Instagram at @its_taco_dan_time where he reviews different tacos and shows off his silly side. Taco isn't feeling very excited about the prospect of spending another holiday without a home of his own and humans to cuddle with by the fireplace. Taco can have his toys packed up before you can say "guac is extra." His adoption fee is $0 and his basic essentials are packed up and ready to go too! Want to meet this great guy? Email adoptioncenter@homewardtrails.org HT ADOPTION INCLUSIONS: Spay/Neuter First 3 distemper series vaccines, rabies vaccine, & dewormings Microchip - lifetime with no registration fees Current on heartworm preventative Current on flea/tick preventative EXCLUSIVE ADOPTER BENEFITS (in addition to his REWARD perks): Free physical exam with Caring Hands Animal Hospital, Palisades Veterinary Clinic, Jermantown Animal Hospital and Clarendon Animal Care within 30 days of adoption and all VCA Animal Hospitals (VCA offers $250 coverage - details provided) within 14 days of adoption.
