Story
Meet Rocco! Rocco is a Frenchie of substantial girth and even more substantial vibes. Rocco is a devoted little sidekick who moves at a very dignified, very unhurried pace. He’s essentially a snail with feelings. Rocco will follow you from room to room, eventually, and settle in for premium snuggles once he’s made his journey from the other room. No mayhem. No zoomies. Just loving stares, naps, and quiet companionship. He’s happiest being close to his person ~ your shadow, your couch buddy, your emotional support potato. Other dogs? They’re fine, he supposes, and he's happy to use them as pillows. Humans though? Elite. Rocco is the easiest, happiest old man you’ll ever meet, though he sometimes struggles with his indoor plumbing situation. He’s freshly neutered (so we’re hoping that helps!), but for now, let’s just say the belly band is more of a suggestion than a rule for him - Houdini himself would be impressed by Rocco’s escape artistry when it comes to these contraptions. As for his personality? A+ character: - Zoomies after baths (approximately 1.5 MPH). - Unintentionally deaf and occasionally “selectively blind.” - Will walk into walls, doors, or just wander off dramatically. - Refuses to use stairs, prefers to be carted around like he’s room service. - Enjoys car rides, naps in sunny spots, slow (very slow) strolls, and the concept of snacks. - Believes in doing absolutely nothing, beautifully. Comfy beds are also a must, though sometimes he only makes it halfway in. Rocco is a “whatever” kinda guy ~ happy to live life one slow, wobbly hop at a time, as long as he's with you. While his normal speed is 1MPH, he will speed up to 1.5MPH if he loses sight of you, and will even trot up to you once he finally finds you again - which is his equivalent of breaking the sound barrier. He loves being near his human(s) as much as possible, so he's looking for a family of snugglers who will be home with him most of the time (and will let him out for frequent potty breaks to avoid accidents). If you’re looking for a slow, steady, deeply loyal best friend who believes quality time means existing near you at all times, Rocco is ready to waddle into your heart. Rocco is approximately 10 years old and 33lbs. Fostered in Alexandria, VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Lizzy! Pretty girl, professional couch enthusiast (any size), and very serious ball collector. This long-bodied, soft-furred, squeaky-ball-obsessed beauty's world changed when her person lost multiple jobs and, ultimately, their home. Lizzy arrived at Miri's Haven confused and unsure, her favorite light-up squeaky balls tucked beside her along with her big fluffy bed…the last pieces of the life she knew. And even as her heart processed this enormous change, her sweetness never wavered. Gentle, polite, and tender-hearted, she is doing her best to understand this new chapter. Lizzy is a little fluffy, a little round, and absolutely perfect in all her long-bodied, short-legged glory. She is snuggly, affectionate, and playful. She loves a good game of fetch, walks beautifully, and finds comfort in her crate when the world feels overwhelming. She does stairs like a pro, is a great copilot in the car, and sleeps through the night. Lizzy is overweight, so her ideal family will be dedicated to helping her lose it and keep it off. She needs support sticking to her diet (tough since she's a huge foodie) and staying active (less tough - she loves going on lots of walks and chasing balls). She'll even let you know when she wants to play by dropping the ball right at your feet (often when you least expect it!). She’d thrive in a home with other dogs ~ especially bigger dogs who enjoy playing but also understand the art of age-appropriate fun. (She’s a little semi-arthritic but still scoots around just fine.) Kids are totally fine too - she adores her high energy toddler foster sibling. The jury is still out on cats. Lizzy loves lounging in dog beds or on the couch, though she doesn't like jumping on or off of the couch or bed (she's a lady, thank you) so doggie stairs are a must in her forever home. Her only other non-negotiable requirement? A human with a good arm who will throw a ball. Again. And again. And again. Because Lizzy lives for fetch. This very good girl is now accepting applications and would love to review yours. Lizzy is approximately 10 years old and 40 lbs. Fostered in Lothian, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Luna! This baby hippo is a sweetheart and bsolutely adorable. Luna has returned to Miri's Haven after more than a year in her adoptive home. Her owner had a medical issue and her family was unable to care for Luna. Luna returned to us completely bewildered, unsure what just happened, and with a few extra pounds that we're helping her shed with time and care. She loves sunbathing, food, and taking long naps - ideally in her favorite cave bed. She is not very leash-trained so would love a fenced in yard to explore (and sunbathe in). She is housetrained, pee pad trained, and gets along beautifully with the other dogs in her foster home. Luna is a great passenger in the car, sleeps through the night, and doesn't mind staying home alone while her humans are out. She needs eye drops twice a day but doesn't mind taking them as long as she is in her bed, which is her safe space. Like many seniors (human and canine!), she has some trouble hearing and seeing, and needs a hand navigating stairs. Since she doesn't love being picked up, a home without stairs would be best. Luna likes having a consistent routine and would love a home that is generally calm and quiet. She's also big on food and snacks (as evidenced by her weight!) - her forever family will need to continue supporting her on her weight loss journey and help her maintain a healthy weight. Luna is a chill, sweet, quiet girl who would love a permanent place to sunbathe. Could you be the one to finally give this girl the forever she deserves? Luna is approximately 10 years old and 10 lbs. Fostered in Severn, MD Please apply at MirisHaven.org

Story
Meet Harlee! This small, scruffy gentleman arrived one morning believing his people would be back any minute now, but as he waited, the truth settled in around him. They wouldn’t be returning, but maybe this place wasn’t so bad. Harlee is has a tentative sweetness and a body carrying a few extra pounds from a life that once had more routine than it does now. He absolutely loves being pet and snuggling with his humans - he's happiest curled up in a lap. He is neutered, housebroken, polite on leash, gentle with the other dogs, and familiar with the quiet presence of cats. He gets the occasional zoomies - complete with play bows! - and it's beautiful to watch him fly around with joy. Harlee is approximately 13 years old and X lbs. Story
Meet Cornelius! Cornelius is a local celebrity, style icon, and the one-eyed bundle of love you didn’t know you needed. When we first introduced this pint-sized powerhouse, he came to us looking like he might not make it. We knew he faced an uphill battle to become healthy again, and luckily he had an unexpected fighting spirit. This resilient nugget went through massive palate reconstruction and somehow managed to just shrug it off like it was not big thing. He hasn’t missed a single beat in recovery. Cornelius is a pint-sized pirate of passion with exactly one working eye and absolutely zero sense of personal space. He’s part gremlin, part cuddlebug, and spends his evenings burrowing into blankets like a mole on a mission, staring into the middle distance with his good eye like he’s solving cosmic mysteries, and vibrating with joy anytime a snack bag crinkles within a 20-foot radius. Corni just loves one person at a time in this big, loud world. And once you’re his person? That’s it. You’re chosen. You’re kissed. Beloved. He is all personality and heart, and he loves his chosen person fiercely. Cornelius would love to be an only dog, but is happy to coexist with other dogs and cats if they let him be - and let him have dibs on their human. He would love a fenced-in yard to totter around and sunbathe in. Because of his visual impairment and history of severe neglect, he can be a little spicy when surprised (or when, like any of us, he wakes up on the wrong side of the bed). But most of the time he is a #1 snuggle boy and will not let anything keep him from snuggling into your lap. Cornelius is approximately 12 years old, 6lbs, and absolutely epic. Story
Meet Oboe! ! Looking for a chatty, cuddly, weird little soulmate? You've found your match. Oboe charms absolutely everyone with his squishy face, his permanently crooked lip-to-toof situation, and the way he snoozes so hard you have to check for breathing. He also sings for his supper with the dramatic flair of a starving opera tenor. Oboe is an excellent cuddler and prefers to be close ~ usually at or directly on foster mom’s feet. He loves being brushed, pet, and sometimes leans his head against his foster mom like he's giving her a hug - yes it's as adorable as it sounds. He gives occasional kisses and will usually return the favor if you kiss him first. Oboe's favorite pastime is snoozing on the couch, but don't be fooled - this man is speedy when he wants to be! He enjoys his walks, can do a solid twenty minutes, and once he gets going, he trots along like a determined little raisin with places to be. Oboe firmly believes all food is for him. Snacks are a must, and even when he's had them, he remains deeply convinced that foster mom must still have a secret supply of food and simply forgot to share it with him (clearly, a clerical error). A playful little guy, Oboe's favorite toy, Lamby, is a treasured companion - and when he’s finished playing, he settles himself down quietly and drifts into a deep, contented sleep, wrapped in a blanket. Oboe walks well on leash, rides nicely in the car, and is fully house-trained. He will even give you his signature gremlin call to let you know when he has to go. He’s lived with children, cats, and dogs before, and his foster sibling is a bunny! He’s been nothing but kind to everyone he’s met. He would love a home that's generally calm and quiet, and filled with people who love to snuggle and take him on fun adventures. Like many seniors, Oboe carries the marks of time. He's being treated for Lyme and responding very well, and we suspect he may have hyperthyroidism which will require management via medication. His skin is in rough shape so we're giving him regular medicated baths, which he tolerates with only a little grumbling and a little drama. He loves to be brushed and petted, and while his back legs wobble a bit, he can manage a few stairs but would need help with several. He's been living in an apartment and done very well. This old man is funny, crusty, sweet, expressive, occasionally aromatic, and completely impossible not to love. He wants companionship, soft blankets, snacks, and someone who thinks a quirky old croissant of a dog is the best thing ever. If that’s you, he’s waiting! Oboe is approximately 10 years old and 17 lbs. Fostered in Arlington , VA Please apply at MirisHaven.org
