Story
NEED FOSTER HOME FOR ONE OF THE MIXED PUPPIES FROM KIKKI'S STAR WARS LITTER!! Meet Hera, a loving, energetic companion looking for a foster or forever home. Hera is a charming dog with a heart full of loyalty and affection. She can be shy upon initially meeting someone, but adapts quickly. Once comfortable, her playful spirit and boundless energy shine through. Hera enjoys walks and is currently building confidence on leash. She has been fostered in a multi-animal home and gets along with other dogs very well. She sometimes needs a reminder to give the cats some space. She is potty trained as well as crate trained although she can be anxious when left alone at times. A calm, male companion would be ideal for her. Her foster home is currently working on basic training, including some tricks. She is very smart but can be stubborn. You will need some creativity to keep her engaged while training. Several short sessions as opposed to a long one. If you are looking for a devoted friend who will bring joy and enthusiasm into your life, Hera might be a match. Her lovable personality would ensure her becoming a cherished part of your family!! She is very smart and needs an owner who will engage her brain: obedience, fast cat, agility.  Prefer owners with some previous experience with dogs.  She will be spayed prior to placement.  See more pix and video at https://www.facebook.com/akitarescue.org/Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.November 4, 2024, 12:00 am

Story
Rey is one of Kiki's puppies, part of the 'Star Wars' litter, all of whom were named after Star Wars characters.   She is Pittie, akita/chow and a mix of other breeds. she will be spayed prior to placement.  Rey has the pittie lack of personal space.  She is a cuddle dog and will sit in your lap if you let her. She has barked at dogs passing by when she is in our fenced front yard. She is a bit shy initially with people and would do well with a confident male companion. Although she only has face to face contact when we walk them, she has acclimated to the very loud dogs in my house.  When she is loose, will playblow to the dogs on the other side of the baby gate. She largely ignores my cats or is intimidated by them. She has a voice and is not afraid to use it when she is hungry or has to go out. crate trained. Very food oriented which helps with training.  She is very smart and will need an owner who is willing to give her a job: obedience training, agility, flyball, fast cat.   prefer applicant with previous dog experience. Story
If you would be interested in adopting Trooper and giving him the BEST home and life for the rest of his, please copy/paste the following link into your browser. HOWEVER, if you are not certain you are ready for a dog in your life and the commitment it involves, and all family members are not on board, please do not proceed to this step. www.tinyurl.com/adopt-shpr Trooper is a special dog, with a special story. He was picked up - injured - by a Sheriff's Deputy and got right in the car with her. When he arrived, he was emaciated and could barely walk or even stand. He went straight to the vet and it was determined he had a shoulder injury and 3 compressed discs in his spine. We thought there may be neurological issues as well. We didn't know if we'd be able to save Trooper and brought him back to the shelter where we spoiled him rotten with the yummiest of food, food puzzles (which he figured out in 2 seconds), and marrow bones....anything we could to make him happy. He began to put a little weight on and be a little more mobile so we took him to a neurologist who examined him and said he did not have those issues and referred us to an orthopedist. That vet strongly felt he may need his right front leg amputated but told us to give him a little while and see if there was improvement - which there was! Trooper not only began to walk, but to run and play! What happened next is that Trooper began to really love living at the shelter and viewed it as his home. When strangers showed up, he started to bark and act very protective when in his kennel. We have had numerous staff changes and trust me - it doesn't take long before he is your best friend. All you really need to do is to talk to him and give him some yummy treats. But until then, he can be a little intimidating. He has never bitten anyone but acts like he will. Not sure if he would or not. We protect him and have people meet him correctly and then there is never a problem. He never forgets a person, and he gets along beautifully with all dogs - male, female, big and small. Trooper definitely has a big piece of our heart. He has lived with us for over 3 years now, but he deserves a real home. He is about 7-8 now and needs to know the special love of a person he can call his own. Trooper is about 50 lbs (he is a little chubby and we have him on a diet). He is up to date on his vaccines, is neutered, up to date on dewormings and preventatives and is HW negative and microchipped. We are wishing and hoping for the right family for Trooper and feel it would be a home that is more on the quiet side with less activity of people coming and going. He is now living in our puppy room, with a doggie door where he can go outside when he needs to. He is housetrained and crates very well at night. He bonds super strongly and then is the biggest teddy bear ever. His adoption fee is $175
